I was right about calling it that one of the two possible roles of his would be a cop under Gordon.
I love that I'm right. This is a great idea. My money is that he's a good idealistic cop. The fact that he's young and he's starting out wanting to do some good is a good angle. Especially if Gordon brings him in. He could either start out as a regular cop or apart of the task force to track Batman or be promoted because Gordon sees something in him.
If they go for the idealistic cop angle, he can evolve throughout the film and have a cool little arc. Gordon will either admire him for his idealistic ways or warn him (as I expect Gordon is now more careful about hiring cops, as he was more idealistic in TDK, this could have dwindled in this film) but Levitt is what Gordon sees what's good about Gotham. Even if he's naive and young and idealistic, there's hope, and this could bring Gordon around and would fit into his arc.
If he's going to be on the task force, he's assigened, eager and ready to hunt Batman with the rest. Gordon warns him of the dangers of being a cop in Gotham. Then gradually, Levitt comes around to believing in Batman and doing the right thing in the end and has to make a tough decision, but the right one. I see this resembling Fox at the end of TDK in a way.
He'll mostly share the screen with Gordon and have some great interactions with him. I love this inclusion because it means some great cop dialogue.
To me it's more interesting than him being a corrupt. It seems like a logical way to go given the end of TDK and where the themes left off with Gotham and its people and how Batman will be on the run.
This is getting me more excited. Levitt fits this role like a glove.
