WAIT WAIT WAIT. It all makes sense, JGL is only pretending to be a cop while he is ,unknown to Gordon or Batman, Falcone's son leading all the crime in Gotham. While unknown to all the criminals, the Holiday killer going around and killing rival families.

Its a role within a role within a role. My god Nolan you have done it again.

It seems to me that we're going to have an Anti- Batman task-force in TDKR. JGL, Sunjata and the two others.

My favorite part of that chart is this:

You suck
How do you know?
Nolan says so.

Can I just add that JGL will look mighty fine in uniform. :awesome:

Oh yes. :awesome:

He really will. :awesome:

I knew he'd be some damn cop!

Just got in and saw the news. We f'n called it. Remember our conversations back when he was first announced by Deadline? We called it man. High five. :word:

Anyhow, yes, very sweet news. I love it. :hrt:

Ask, and ye shall receive .

Christian Bale ... Bruce Wayne / Batman
Michael Caine ... Alfred Pennyworth
Gary Oldman ... Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman ... Lucius Fox
Anne Hathaway ... Selina Kyle / Catwoman
Tom Hardy ... Bane
Marion Cotillard ... Miranda Tate
Joseph Gordon-Levitt ... John Blake
Josh Pence ... Young Ra's al Ghul
Nestor Carbonell ... Anthony Garcia
Juno Temple
Daniel Sunjata
Diego Klattenhoff
Burn Gorman
That is just stunning. What a line-up.

I really thought he'd be Falcone. Which means Nolan has more imagination than me. Which is good.
I like the way this movie is going.

can someone explain to me what a "beat cop" is ? makes no sense when i translate it into german ^^

a basic patrolman in uniform, like the two dudes who tried to get Dent out of the hospital !....

That's your opinion, not fact.

You disagree that moral code trumps written code in certain cases?

Cases such as when an individual must choose to follow orders, or laws, verbatim or to think for themselves and follow a higher standard.

An example might be when mercenaries are hired to bring home a kidnapped daughter in Mexico, but must break international law in order to save her. (Batman kidnapping the "TV")

Or in Vietnam when soldiers were ordered (and you never disobey a direct order as far as the UCMJ is concerned) to burn down entire villages and mutilate babies. If you were to disobey and follow your own moral principles, you'd be court martialed or even killed but you'd win the moral battle.

It's exactly how Batman operates.

An officer that walks, bikes, or otherwise patrols a specific area of a town or neighborhood.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

I posted this (quote below) February 1, the day JGL was first announced by Deadline. I'm so happy to see it actually pan out (at least on a superficial level), and it'll be interesting to see if they go the route I suggested, or make him more of an antagonist/bad guy. The usage of "beat cop" may suggest otherwise though, although that depends if he's well-known for being a good cop or an a-hole.

I see him as maybe a young, honest cop on the force who catches on to the fact that Gordon and Bats are in cahoots. Perhaps he was once one of the few cop believers in Bats, and now faces the dilemma of trusting him. His small character arc can tie into themes of choosing what to believe for yourself, and faith.

"Sometimes, people deserve to have their faith rewarded." I could see an honest character serving as an outlet for such a theme/plot point.

Wow. After all this JGL winds up being a beat cop under Gordon?

Hmm.....

Regardless, I'm glad JGL is onboard this final Nolan Bat film!

nice.so bane remains undiluted, and alberto and talia remain the unfulfilled dream of people who want a trilogy in 2 films.

Little disappointing, but I cant complain too much.

Aiieeee.

If they would have announced that JGL and Cotillard were cast as Alberto and Talia, some of these fanboys would have complained and whined.

Now that the characters they will be playing have been announced, fanboys still complain and whine?

More proof that fickle fanboys and fangirls are never satisfied.

:highfive:

Yup, I remember our conversation. Good for us. :awesome:

I keep seeing a handful of people being angry at Nolan for not casting JGL and MC as Talia or Calender or something like that. (There's still a decent possibility that MC could still be Talia undercover ala Ducard, that theory seems valid to me) People seem to assume that because he's hiring competent actors, that he's hiring them all to be villains. But Nolan has known which villains he'd be using for a long time now. John Blake and Miranda Tate have been in the script for a long time. You can't be angry at the guy for finding the best possible actors for those roles.

Maybe Gordon created that "special duty" role for Blake as a way to help Batman. In TDK it seems like Batman is familiar with a lot of the policemen in GPD.

Is it possible that both Gordon and Batman still work together and Blake as a "beat cop" would be the least likely person to actually keep helping pass info Bats would need to connect with Gordon without the need of the Bat signal on top of MCU.
