I guess MAYBE Goyer was thinking that if the show focused on Jor-El and Zod that there would be that spectre of doom looming over the show since we know what fate awaits these characters. I guess focusing on prior generations takes the focus away from Krypton's impending destruction.

Fanart's a good sign. People liking characters enough to get a kick out of imagining interactions and stuff. Chibi-ing the Avengers or slash-pairing Cap and Bucky or just making funny comics with inside fan jokes. JL should also focus on relationships enough that people will be eager to glorify Arthur/Diana or Flash/Cyborg or whatever they give.

Oh cool, I thought it looked more like a production shot

Yeah it's the same shot that's in the folder Waller gives to Bruce.

I'm still wondering why were the tattoos necessary. I'm not a huge fan of 90s long haired bearded Aquaman anyway, so maybe the tats just put me off even more. At least don't have Black Manta cut his hand off in the standalone movie. I don't need to see the hook hand as well.

I love them. They give him a tribal look.

They remind me a lot of Kaldur from YJ and sell the fact that he's from an undersea culture a lot more.

Plenty of ancient civilizations had tribal markings and tattoos, it gives the Atlanteans more color imo

If you haven't watched SS yet, it might be better to wait for the EC

I don't think he needs it. But I like traditional Aquaman so of course I won't be a fan of how this one looks. Geoff Johns made Aquaman a badass without feeling the need to make him look like Conan the Barbarian. Oh the irony. ;)

That's fair enough. I've never been attached to any Aquaman design so I'm fine with what we got. Are you cool with the fully armored look?

Yep, the armored look with the trident is amazing. Can't wait to see Mera.

Digging the armour tbh, just wish the green and orange/gold were a tad more prominent.

You know what I've been wondering? How long after BvS is JL taking place? I'd love for it to be pretty darn soon after. I seriously doubt it'd take Bruce/Diana a year to go out to the other members.

Do we have any idea why Bruce is operating out of a flying fortress thing?

I was hoping we'd have more a "nowhere is safe" thing going.

I think there may be a slight generational thing here about Aquman. At the same time that a guy like you is saying "Yeah, you go Johns! Keep that silver Age look for the character, and keep having Aquaman constantly refuting in-universe accusations of him being lame!", my response was "He looks like Steve Rogers in an uninteresting costume. And people are shocked he's badass? No ****, Sherlock! Were you not paying attention to the character's history? Did you not have Cartoon Network?"

I love the barbarian look, since I think it fits the character even in a New 52 style storyline, makes him unique, and communicates a different culture.

Plus, I've kind of grown a slight bias against any Silver Age elements just from being a 90's kid. To me, Aquaman has a beard, there's more than one Robin and Batgirl, Wally West is clearly the best Flash, and Clark Kent is married to a badass Lois Lane. And seeing Aquaman emerge from the water looking the same way he did back on the 70's does nothing for me.

Well, IIRC the tattoos have centuries old meaning in Polynesian culture. So, it goes beyond being badass to actually tying Momoa's cultural identity to the mythology surrounding Aquaman and the sea.
