I've always heard some people say that their parents are okay with them dating someone of another race, as long as they weren't black; which I really don't get.

Me personally I've always been attracted to women were latin or white, mainly because they were the women I saw around me a lot; I always hear a black woman talk down on a black guy who dates outside their race.

I mean, why don't many black women do it?

I've seen and know of alot Black women who don't outside their race.

Mainly when I hear someones parents don't mind them dating outside their race except for black guys its usually Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankans.

Yeah, but how is it that black men are more open to it than black women?

Less narrow minded in their idea of the perfect mate.

I think it's more of generational thing now. Because more younger people are open to then older people.

I also have black friend who is a girl who said she would never date a black guy. She just doesn't find them attractive.

I just heard what Kanye did. Man that guy is really a jackass. I was a huge fan of his first two albums, but since then he hasn't ben as good. He's gotten too much of a big head now. He needs to get his ass whupped for interrupting Taylor Swift's moment. Yeah awards shows suck pretty bad, but you don't do that to somebody.

Beyonce tried to make up for it later that night. As soon as she won an award, she said she remembered what it was like being a teenager at the VMAs, and brought Taylor Swift on stage to finish her acceptance speech.

I wish the Chappelle Show was still around. He'd turn the Kanye incident into comedy gold.

If Taylor Swift was dating a black guy Kanye would be in the hospital now.

If Taylor Swift was a black guy, Kayne would be at the dentist.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO keep the Kanye flack in his thread please. I know I'm a big supporter of him but seriously BIGGER things happened last night rather than Kanye being his rude and arrogant self. Bigger things are happening in the black community.

bring us a topic then luv... :cwink:

I have a topic, but it isn't on topic with the thread, really, because it's regarding Philipinos :csad:

Well, I was wondering if I could get some feedback/opinions on this:

I work with a LOT of Philipinos, and while most of them are super nice, most are also very stand-offish to anyone who isn't also Philipino. They form this clique-ish group that brings each other food, go out together, etc. All of them are Americans, and speak perfect English, but they still speak their own language in front of everyone else. It is a hospital rule that none of the staff are allowed to speak a language other than English due to the patients getting upset that staff members might be gossiping about them, but they get away with it anyways. I know for a fact that some of them talk about coworkers due to their glances at certain people while talking, etc. It also seems that even if they don't know a new Philipino staff member, that person automatically becomes part of the clique.

Here's my question: Are these people being racist towards those who aren't Philipino? Or do you consider that to be a natural part of culture?

I think it's a cultural bond thing. When you're in a new environment, you automatically gravitate toward the people who seem the most like yourself. In some cases, that just causes people to hang out with others of a similar culture or interests. In this case, it's Filipino-Americans hanging out with other Filipino-Americans. It's the same mentality that causes kids in school to group up in the lunch room by race.

I've never been a fan of that mentality at all. In school, I sat at VERY mixed/multi-cultural tables, and I enjoy meeting people who are different from me. I hated seeing the lunch room tables that were grouped by race :csad:

I was never like that, either. In middle school, my friends all turned out to be Chinese, Filipino, and Indian. Incidentally, a series of birthdays, parties, and gatherings have given me a taste for nan bread and pansit.

Well that just means you're an exception. It's just something that most people do. Even if it was a school of kids who all shared the same race, religion, and gender, they'd still find reasons to split up into little sub groups and such.

Well racism is an ingrained part of many cultures, including our own. So... both
