"Let Your Soul-Glo": The Experience Returns

I don't understand why people always want artists to go back to the style of their first album I say let an artist evolve, and try some new things.

That's because most artists don't evolve properly. They'll come out with one album that sounds one way then the very next album will be someone from a completely different genre.

I think Outkast did a good job of evolving over time so that when they got to Speakerboxx/The Love below fans weren't shocked or put off by the huge change.

Nostalgia is one thing, but I don't think it's that artists don't evolve "properly".

That's like saying, "The person you're changing into isn't right, you shouldn't be like this...". It's more your opinion of what someone else has become that's the issue, as opposed to them changing being "wrong" hey.

Maybe some people could just do with learning to embrace change with open minds, instead of being stuck in the past & set in their ways. That's what I think anyways!

I'm all about embracing change, I just don't necessarily always like the change. Sometimes yes, sometimes no!

Personally I don't really mind if an artist does a 180,but I see what your saying. Some artist can get away with it like Prince for example. He did a complete 180 with Dirty Mind, and people accepted it.

This....

A good example would be Q-Tip's Amplified album. I gave it a shot knowing it'd be different and I still swear to this day that if I see that man I'm gonna demand my ****ing money back.

Prince gets away with a lot of things because he's SUCH a talented artist. I'm sure he lost a few fans though. Any artist that evolves will lose some fans but gain newer ones.....unless their "evolution" sucks.

Pyro mentioned this in the Gorillaz thread, but I done played this track like 5 times in my car today. Mos Def and Bobby Womack on the same song...can't beat it.

That Bruce Willis cameo is so random in the music video.

Speaking of artists musically change Damon Albarn the man behind gorillaz and former blur singer seems to be alble to turn his hand to any style of music. His African music projects, the chinese monkey journey to the west opera or the ever evolving band blur he fronted.

is that the song with Bruce Willis in the video, only caught the end. That mofo is hard.

yep SURFDUI. Also a dude who looks like X-Men villain Emplate goes all Lost Smoke monster on a fat cop

And Beyonce is a prime example of that. Her evolution as an artist has been riddled with misfires in my opinion. She lost me with her second album actually. :whatever:

Wow! I think I'm in love. This woman's music is incredible!

He more than redeemed himself with The Renaissance though.

I have to 100% agree with this Beyonce just went too well POP after her first album.Which is still her best.call me crazy, but imo Solange>Beyonce.

but imo Solange>Beyonce.

U Crazy. I don't know a whole hell of a lot about YONCE, but IMO Solange...'Solange' :whatever: isn't even as talented as Ashley Simpson if were comparing sister acts. Frank Stallone thinks Solange is hanger-on. After that tirade chick went on couple years back, about supposedly having some sort of talent, I been offa all of them.

Solange reminds me of Kelly Rowland in that she sings almost exactly like Beyonce, but with less "character" in her voice.

LOL,Beyonce is of course a better singer.I just think Solange has better music. She released a good album.Atleast I thought it was a good album. It had a nice 60's feel.

I don't know what you're hearing man, but Solange & Beyonce's voice are dramatically different. There's nothing "almost exactly" about their voices at all. From the nuances, to tone, to range, to vocal instincts - different vocalists.

I might add that Solange is an amazing songwriter.

I meant that she sounded like Beyonce in the sense that they have a remarkably similar way of singing. You can hear it in LeToya's voice, too. It's not a regional thing. It's that "These girls sing together, and they sound like they're singing together even when they're solo" thing.

I'm not going to confuse Beyonce and Solange's voices anytime soon, but the first time I'd ever heard a song by her, I thought she was a member of Destiny's Child.

So just because someone puts out songs that are sonically and lyrically different to what they put out a few years back, it's not a fair basis to accuse someone of plagarism hey.

I don't recall anyone saying anything about plagarism. No one said he's stealing songs (though he could be for all we know) just that others are writing for him. He isn' t the first (or last) "rapper" to have other people write songs for him: Dr. Dre, Easy E, Will Smith, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, the list goes on...

A lot of the times, claiming you've written a song that someone else wrote (ghost writer) is plagarism. Not every ghost writer does so voluntarily.

In many times it's an unknown up-and-comer trying to get a break, the artist hears their demo, steals the idea & takes credit for it with no mention of the actual writer at all hey.

That's the reality.

Beyonce is notoriously known in the industry for doing it.

Esperanza Spalding is better than Beyonce, Solange, Kelly, and any other Destiny's Child members.

Just discovering her?

Unfortunately I am. In my insomniac hours last night, I finalyl found some good modern jazz to listen to. I saw her video that I posted, and damn did she blow me away. She's really incredible.
