It came out in March to cover it. They placed it after BatB to have an excuse for its poor performance. Nothing about how it performed after the first weekend suggest any other date would have helped it at all. This movie came out in a bad month period. It had to compete with Logan Kong and Beauty and the Beast now if it would've kept us January date it probably would have done better since movie goers need something exciting and fresh to come out during the winter months.
I just hope a sequel is made they dissect what worked and what didn't work bring a little bit more of the PR mythos into the script and choose a year and month they're not competing with other big movies and quite possibly it may get the BO numbers.
It made well over 10% of what Transformers 5 is going to make.If only this movie made just 10% of what Transformers 5 is making now

I am curious. What do you know about box office numbers to suggest such a thing? What about its legs suggest it would have done better in January, August, October, or any other month? It opened at 40m, and then died. International audiences wanted nothing to do with it. It has made 140m WW with Japan the only country left. Now I've heard it all.
You think this was all the director's fault? I mean, I think he was definitely a problem. But the studio made this movie on the cheap, picked the director, hired the writers, etc. They signed off on everything. This movie had soooo much potential but it was ruined by a director who didn't know what type of movie he wanted to make.

I agree. Which to me means the studio was the real problem.Well he's part to blame. He pitched this. And I don't think Lions gate ever had faith in this project. Reminds me of how Fox did FFINO.

So what do you guys think the pitch was for this ?
I remember pre movie the cast would not shut up about Breakfast Club so I imagine Dean walking into a room
"Think what if the Breakfast Club cast became Power Rangers & it focuses on the drama & barely nothing else until the very end. This is a real budget saving idea"
That's what I tuned into.
Agreed. That's why I turned the movie off at one point and turned on the Green Ranger saga. I couldn't even make it halfway through the movie till my third viewing and finally finished it on the fourth.
This was an above average teen drama film. This was Chronicle with a bigger budget. I think Israelite does deserve some credit for the palpable chemistry and character building between the cast, I think all five rangers were fun to watch and brought charismatic performances. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed just watching these characters interact with each other.
The problem...is that this is POWER RANGERS, and its kind of a mortal sin to not having any martial arts/robot action until the last 20 minutes. I think Israelite is a good director, but this just isnt his genre of film and he clearly was uncomfortable with the "blockbuster" parts of this and wanted a character based film.

A PG rating wouldn't have helped this steaming pile of **** that people didn't care about.
The top 7 all time domestic films are PG-13. 12 of the top 20.There is a element of truth to what he is saying.
When this movie came out film critic Mark Kermode had various parents contact his film review show asking if the movie was appropriate for small kids.
How wide spread that was internationally is anyone's guess but it certainly seemed like to be something of a issue in the UK.
