Loeb & Cho's New Ultimates

i'm sure ultimate spiderman will be fine. bendis will find a way to make it work...and i'm sure spidey's rogues gallery will be untouched by ultimatum.

wow you guys are *****e bags you strait up called me ******ed for something you all know is true. if Millar wrote Ultimates 3 and it was the same exact thing as what Loeb wrote you'd love it. and its not like
like saying we wouldn't know the difference between someone giving us chocolates or someone hitting us with a baseball bat as long as they were both called gifts.
it's more like saying if I put stop & shop brand cola in you're coke bottle you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but if you drank the brand soda from the brand bottle you'd say it taste like ****.

No one is calling you ******ed. At least I'm not. And I may be in the minority but if Millar wrote his characters one way and then all of a sudden change their personalities no I would not love. Don't take it upon yourself to make broad sweeping generalizations. IMO it is a bad story no matter whose name was attached to it. If that makes me a *****e bag then I'll be that for sure.

BTW, this whole thread is dangerously close to being on the Last Chance list :cmad:

I see what u did there

And Ultimate Spider-Man is over with issue 133.

Oh, there's gonna be a new Volume 2 and a new Spider-Man that's not Peter Parker, but who wants that? Not I.

all the F4 make it through ultimatum (millar spoiled that in an interview about ult. avengers), but there role post-ultimatum is unknown.

hey hey I'll make all the generalizations I want, but I apologize for lumping you into my generalization. I'm not saying it was a good story by any means it's very mediocre, but seeing people complain about Jeff Loeb makes me realize how people take comics too serious. Jeff Loeb was trying something new with the characters, but we care to much about continuity and the previous writers characterization that we can't even accept someone else's take on the characters. comics are supposed to be fun.

Really??? Pete's not going to be Spidey? :csad:

what's the point of Spider-man not being Peter Parker?

^^we'll see, won't we? back to new ultimates though. so the team is going to consist of cap, iron-man, thor, valkyrie, and zarda from that first pic (the battle with the asgardian army). that same pic on a forum on comicbookresources.com has them all labeled. who else do you think (or hope) will be on the team?

Wait a minute. So you're saying that in any medium, they can set up a continuity or characterization, and if another write comes on board, he can change or destroy everything done before, and ignore the previous continuity or characterization...and that's ok with you...and you think we are in the wrong for not liking that?

I mean, it would be ok with you if say, Spider-Man was written as a hero, always self sacrificing, always does the right thing, never comprimises...and then another writer comes along and makes him do something like say...make a deal with the devil to fulfill his own selfish....oh wait. :csad:

In other words, your argument doesn't work.

No what I'm saying is the Ultimates are fairly a new comic still. People take changes so negatively now. No one writes Spider-man the same way Stan Lee wrote him yet over 40 years ago. Remember when Peter smacked MJ? What I'm trying to get at is we are all to serious about continuity and characterization. New writers are allowed to change characterizations if that weren't the case a lot of characters wouldn't be where they are now. Continuity has become such an awful thing IMO right now because if anyone writes anything its over analyzed to death. its a fictional story why do people go so crazy about stuff. And if the stories are bad get mad at the company who puts their name on it and the editors who "say yeah this is great" instead of saying "this needs a rewrite" cause it's truly their fault when you get a bad story.

The end of Ultimate Spider-Man

And it's not that Loeb made changes to the Ultimates, but his changes were so bad and out of left field.

Hank Pym screams out "I guess that makes me a mother ****er!!" And didn't he BITE OFF the Blob's head in Ultimatum? Are you kidding me??

Honestly, I can undestand the point your trying to make here about obsession over continuity but dude think about it, there's a difference between progressing a character to the next logical level and changing the characterization out of left field. A natural character progression would be having Peter parker get married and becoming a teacher, its different yet it feels natural. What Loeb did was completely ignore the foundation that millar laid for the ultimates and wrote them however the hell he wanted. Scarlet witch, quiclsilver, cap, tony, thor, hawkeye, hank...everybody acted wildly different than they did in Ultmates 1&2 for no reason at all. I agree that we can obsess over continuity sometimes but thats becuase continuity can be such a beautiful thing if used correctly and respected. To me, the best part of supehero comics are how good writers can come in and add to the foundation of existing instead of knocking that foundation down with a hammer and creating a new one for no reason.

Mark Millar wouldnt have raped his own characters the way Jeph Loeb did.

**** yes he would have.

And he'd have smiled while he did it.

Wearing suspenders, and a funny little hat.

it's just sad that there can't be a legitimate conversation about new ultimates...........

Lotta people hate the whole universe. I'm sure once the book gets going, we'll have some decent chats
