Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 4

I just see N/A in that link, no A-

If it says Not Applicable (like here: http://cinemascore.com/) it means they haven't entered their rating yet. they usually wait two to three days after release to tally votes.

My issue with Cinemascore is that you're asking the opinions of the people who are seeing the movie when it first comes out, usually opening day. For movies like Pain & Gain it works because there's no dedicated fanbase. But everything from Tyler Perry movies to the Twilight films have A Cinemascore ratings too because of the fans.

World of KJ and BoxOffice forums have them listed.

And yeah, what Poni Boy says too. It's often skewed positively for movies with large fanbases.

^That's my issue as well.

BTW, I'm one of those Twilight fans. I saw every film in the franchise opening weekend.

Would be better for them to wait for second weekend of release for every movie. Then the fanbase/marketing push factor have depreciated substantially. I'd really like to see them or some other company have as objective a system as possible available to the public. Plenty of companies do it but you have to pay $$$ for the results.

I like it though, it's not so much an indicator of how good a film is, rather how good your time at the cinema will be.

I'd like it if they had a score for both.

Then again, Alex Cross got an "A" score lol!
Am I being punked?

cinemascore doesn't do it but some companies do. they'll chart the audience ratings out to four or five weeks after release. A buddy of mine worked for one in Miami during TDK release and I remember him freaking out how it was the only movie they'd charted that was graded A every week.

Am I being punked?

Nope. Twilight movies, Madea ones, GI Joe and Transformers all have A ratings too. Fanbases, man, fanbases :jedi

It's strange, I want this film to do well enough to get a sequel, but not so astonishingly well that Snyder/Nolan/Goyer will go, yup that's what they want, let's destroy half the planet in the next one and up the action to 1.5 hrs and screw any further character development cuz it's boring.

A- is not that bad. In comparison to other CBMs:

Avengers: A+
Batman Begins: A
The Dark Knight: A
The Dark Knight Rises: A
Iron Man 1-3: A
The Amazing Spider-Man: A-
Captain America: A-
Thor: B+
Superman Returns: B+
Spider-Man 3: B+
Green Lantern: B

So in terms of legs...the other two "A-" scores up there had 2 very different multipliers. TASM had a 4.2x multiplier from opening weekend to domestic total, while CA:TFA only had a 2.7x, which was roughly the same as Thor's (B+).

I think it's safe to say that we aren't on the same page then tomoe because I hope it does as well as humanly possible because I want to see Lex in this world that Goyer and Nolan and Snyder created. I'm sure they know the film's problems.

That does sound like a much better system. In a no brainer kind of way. Also, nice little story about TDK. That is cool to hear.

You are not lying.

Other than Herolee's rants before actually seeing MOS?

:hehe: kidding of course lol :p
The need for validation just kills me sometimes. But I'll forgive him... in time. :cwink:

Man Of Steel has the greatest opening weekend in the history of June. [/thread]

Jesus. You know a rating system is messed up when Green Lantern gets a B. They should completely do away with the +/- crap and stick to A - F

Not gonna lie, I had the same thought when I looked it up. I was sure it would have gotten at least a C- or something.

They only poll people on opening day. Fanboy apologists + moviegoers who are very easily pleased make for very skewed scoring.
I hadn't heard about that site before but I'm glad I hadn't. That has to be one of the dumbest ways you can think of to gather a general grade.

I want to see Lex too. I definitely want a sequel, but only if does not have the problems of this one. I'm not so sure I trust them to do that. Snyder's style over substance problem has always been the same through quite a few movies, yet he still hasn't been able to fix it. I can see where he tried in this movie but it just wasn't fully there. I just don't think he can do it, and I was so ready to give him the benefit of the doubt despite my reservations about him. Goyer has never been the greatest of writers, and several scenes in MOS really annoyed me. There really isn't much of Superman using his brain in this movie and if there is to be a Justice League or World's Finest I don't want him looking like a dunderhead next to Batman. To be fair, Batman in the DK trilogy wasn't the brightest either. As for Nolan, it is surely unfair to blame him but I can't help it, to me he was supposed to be the one ensure the movie was at least as good as the ones he himself directed, to fine tune it and make sure it flowed and was well characterized, and especially that things didn't happen just because they looked cool. I guess his involvement was way less that I thought. It sounds like I hated the movie but I really didn't, the good outweighed the bad; I just want it to outweigh the bad by a much much larger margin in the sequel. Or even better, have no bad at all.
