Nice. Well, I mean, that he's excited, not that he's gutted. :p

I'm sure we all share those feelings of... wanting everyone to be excited for this film. I want the people who always poke fun at the character to see this film and get it.

Haha my brother likes Superman but he hated Superman Returns and he's mega excited for MOS.

I know it’s premature to be saying this, but I’m excited just by the fact that we may actually get a Superman film that actually emphasizes more on his character for once. Like I’ve said in my previous posts, I think the only times that we ever got a chance to see who Superman was on the big screen was in the first two Superman films, particularly the latter one since it dealt with his wants and needs, but even with that, they didn’t dive in as much as I thought that they could.

I’m glad that by all accounts, we’re getting a character driven story. Honestly, it gets tiring as a fan to hear on how so many think that Superman doesn’t have real problems of his own and how because of his powers that he’s able to solve anything with ease and how little to nothing could really phase the guy.

The old superman movies are cheezy.Superman never punch nobody?nothing he did came off as exciting in the old movies. The only thing he did was save people and was to nice,he need to be tough. The comic book and cartoons show us the real superman. We never got a real live action superman movie.mos should change that.I hope so!

Couldn't disagree more with that

Why? who gives a crap what they feel if they're just going to poke fun to begin with?

Personal satisfaction, I guess?

Firstly, I don't know if you've ever seen Superman II, III, or IV, but, regardless of the quality of the films, he does hit things in those movies. So, there's a major flaw in your argument there. Secondly, that first old, "cheezy" Superman movie literally was the start of the modern superhero movie as you know it. So, y'know, a little respect, maybe?

I love superman, no disrepect here.you took it the wrong way.I was saying that's why some people say the things they say about superman.they really don't know the character and only going by what they seen in the old movies.

i dont know about you, but saving Lois AND catching a helicopter (STM), changing a missile's trajectory (STM), repairing the San Andreas faultline (STM), reversing time (STM), fighting 3 Kryptonians at once (SII), stopping a full bus from crumpling into another car (SII) fighting the dark side of his psyche (SIII), fighting a monster created from his own DNA (SIV), and moving the moon by his own strength (SIV) is actually quite impressive and exciting to me.

The only thing he did was save people and was to nice,he need to be tough.
he was tough... he killed both Nuclear Man I and II (SIV), he tricked General Zod, Ursa, and Non into taking away their powers & killed them [depending on which version you watch] (SII), he killed his dark side (SIII)... that's pretty tough to me... and look at above post for more examples of toughness

Superman: The Movie did a very good job at adapting the comic book to the movie screen. The reason it stayed like this was because of the director's decision to stick to verisimilitude, and to stick to being faithful to the comic itself

we have seen Superman done successfully... it was called Superman: The Movie. the only problem is, it's dated.

Just a good film that you like should be enough for that, no?
I never said other people disliking it or misunderstanding it would in any way diminish what appreciation I'd have for the film, so, yes, just liking it would be enough for me. Other people cluing in to how great the character is, in a kind of "oh, I get it now" way, that would just be a bonus.

Agreed :)

I didn't say you did, I asked why care.

Or maybe their opinion will always be that way because they prefer a different character and always will. But different strokes, I guess.

I didn't say you did, I asked why care.
I felt like that's what you were inferring, my mistake. I care because... over the years, I've been witness to Superman getting a lot of flack from people, and I think it would be nice for them to eat crow.

It's pretty telling that people think hitting things makes you tough.

The problems with Superman as of late are a lot more systemic than a lack of "hitting things."

  • Many of his traits have remained untouched since circa 1960 for no better reason than "they're too classic," even if they made no sense to anybody at any point.

  • He's often shown to be so aloof to the real concerns of the people he protects as to come off as smug and indifferent, when he's not so preoccupied with the philosophical conundrum of dressing in a costume and saving people that he becomes more immobile than the Thinker.

  • He's forced to obsess over a dead civilization and its cold remains in the middle of the most remote continent on Earth, rather than actually using what he learned from them to improve the lives of others.

  • When he does come across a time to take action, he starts a long speech on how we should live our lives, rather than living by example.

  • None of his usual conflicts have stakes beyond "Superman might die," as if this mere fact alone is enough to engage people in a Superman story.

  • Outside of a few familiar favorites, you probably can't name that many characters in his supporting cast who you actually care about, because their main call in life is to go "look, up in the sky."
Grant Morrison is the only person behind this character who I've seen fix some of these issues, but he's done it in a medium most people consider a novelty now. The main sentiment over Superman prevails. Hopefully, this movie can change that.

When we finally do get a new trailer, if it's anything like the CC one, unless it uses the same music, it's going to be interesting yet weird to hear/see it given on how many times I've seen the one with the track that was attached to it at CC.haha

In the comic con trailer.... is that Martha Kent that's says in that rude tone,"My son was in the bus....... they saw what Clark did"?

No, doesn't sound like her, and besides... Why would Martha say her son was in the bus and saw what Clark did, when Clark is her son?

So given on how the trailer essentially confirmed that Superman won't be met with universal acceptance like he's been known for in past films, do you think that the character should be allowed to win over the trust of the people by the end of the film, or should that be something that spans over within the trilogy?

In Birthright, a fake Kryptonian invasion is what Luthor uses to rally people against Superman. I can't imagine if a real alien invasion happens and people just being cool with it all of a sudden.

Yeah...but an actual dimension. A spaceship floating around being called The Phantom Zone is kind of dumb.
Phantom Zone could be a nick name for a sector of the space. A place where the ship is headed.

I respect the first movie but all the old movies are also very cheesy to me. It's just my opinion, but as much as i respect it, it doesn't mean i have to like it. I like the odd scene but it's just not my cup of tea.

I always wanted to see a current/modern Superman movie with great actors who don't ham it up and whom are actually good actors. Ever since Batman Begins and maybe around the time of The Dark Knight i wondered if they could do something similar with Superman. Maybe not as realistic all the way, but make him a real human being. And then when he's doing crazy **** as Superman, to still do it in a way where you don't think it's cheesy or wussy. To ground the world around him.

So when somebody says "we haven't seen that Superman in a live-action film yet"...they're right. To me at least.

The only films that i liked as a child that were full of fantasy were Spielbergs Jurassic Park movies, Terminator 2, Tim Burtons Batman & the odd horror flick from the 80s. Oh and maybe Ninja Turtles lol. But that's when i was a kid, and even as a child there were many more far-fetched movies that i could have latched on to and i didn't. These kind of movies don't interest me anymore.

So looking at Superman: The Movie doesn't do anything for me. I never grew up with it and maybe that's why. But Man of Steel is more up my alley.

As far as im concerned, Lex Luthor has never been nailed on screen. Lois Lane always comes off like a complete ****** (no offense) and Superman is either too young with the teeny-drama or he's too wussy with a terrible suit and a boring plot, or he's too cheesy/dated while wearing a suit that would make you laugh at him instead of being in awe of him.

I've never come across a Superman (on screen) that i would truly be in awe of if he was actually real. A movie that i wanted to watch more than once. I'm hoping this is the case with MOS. At least it's making me want to go see it. SR was a movie that i skipped and never saw in the cinema.

I simply want a Superman film that jumps off the celluloid and into our hearts lightly caressing our inner being to bring out the euphoria within that make us cheer in awe and wonderment as the Man of Steel soars to the heavens above and saves the day. :D

I know just another pipe dream...

That's actually what I want too...you put it so... eloquently...:D

So with all of the natural disasters, freak accidents, and alien invaders that we've seen Superman go up against in one way or another in this film, I wonder if they'll actually show him go up against everyday thugs and criminals as well.....I would hope so; I mean, like I've said before, while criminals have a right to be scared of the likes of the Batman going after them, you'd think that they'd be scared ****less when a guy that's pretty much invulnerable to anything that they can throw at him would appear..let alone if this is the first time in the real world that MOS presents where a guy like that exists.
