I saw the movie and liked it but I do understand why some people disliked it. I don't get the venom towards it though. I will say I don't believe people were paid to dislike or anything like that. I think the mistake was making Superman so dark and the universe is so gloomy. As far as the drop goes, I truly don't understand why it's dropping so hard because it's really not that bad. Maybe not being kid friendly?
See, I don't see this Superman as dark, and I especially don't see this universe as gloomy. This Superman hasn't had the adoration and benefit of the doubt as previous incarnations of the character had. Doesn't make him dark, IMO. Just a man dealing with how people see him and trying to do the best he can.
And as for this universe, I see it as rather realistic than gloomy. Gloomy would be the world of The Watchmen or Se7en. Snyder said he wanted to make a Superman movie that asked, "What if Superman were real?" With that question, I think we got a good idea of how humanity would react to a godlike alien being. In real life, some would adore him, many would fear him, and others would want to use him to further their agendas.
Came to work this morning, more reactions.. 2 older women at my job saw it Friday , didn't like the 1st half , but loved the 2nd half of the movie.. I went opening night with my wife and another couple (none of whom are big DC fans). They all enjoyed the film, rated it 7-8/10. I went again this past weekend with two other friends and my brother-in-law. Two other friends liked it. My bro in law gave it a 9.5/10. Dude straight up doesn't know comics. Said he loved how different the film was trying to be.. I've only met 2 people that I know in real life that DIDN'T like the film.

when i went this past Sat again , it was even better I cant get enough , Im really digging the direction they are taking the universe.. So im happy WB is moving forward , just a couple of tweaks & were good to go..
So what did you guys think of the tease that Superman's alive at the end? My friend who's a Marvel fan, but liked the movie said that they should've left out the dirt raising part, and just had a prolonged shot of the coffin. That way people who don't know comics will actually have to guess if he comes back in JL and will watch it to find out from the cliffhanger.
I on the other hand felt it was necessary, since I had 2 friends who don't know comics, and said the movie sucked because Superman died, and asked if me if he was really dead. Their opinions changed after I explained the Death of Superman arc, and assured them that he'll be back for Justice League. Apparently the dirt rising part was too brief for them to catch.
I think for the GA, who don't read comics, it might be better to reassure them that Superman will come back, and the ending scene with the dirt sends a message of hope. The movie in general is of a darker tone, so it would kinda suck if it had a perceived downer ending as well.
I personally loved how the ending was done, with the 2 musical cues of the beginning of Superman's theme throughout, then the dirt rising then it cuts to the MoS Krypton music. Loved it! Btw, I don't recall the Krypton music track at the beginning of the credits to be in the OST? Someone correct me with the right track if I'm wrong.
Why do I sense a tone of condescension in that statement?
The original purpose of the positivity thread was for fans to come here and discuss the movie without the vitriol from detractors interrupting a legit conversation about the movie with 5 negative posts between replies that does not contribute to anything aside from dumping on the movie. The thread was suppose to allow constructive criticism, and not ONLY to say nice things about the film. Fans can point out things that they liked, or didn't like, in a civilized manner. I remember in the original thread some people who didn't like the film even came in to discuss the parts they liked. That is totally fine. The thread started getting a little sidetracked when the hate against the film was so strong during release on the other threads, that fans started coming in here just to state their appreciation of this thread, and we can all see how that can turn into badmouthing the detractors.
I totally understand the reason the old thread was closed, and the new one is made to continue the conversation without badmouthing detractors. But don't make it sound like we're all brainwashed for having a positive opinion on the film, or that we believe the film has no flaws. I made the original thread and even I agree there are plenty flaws in the film, and stated some of them in here, even though it did not detract from my overall enjoyment.
I know some might feel the mods might have a double standard, since we're not allowed to comment on detractors in this thread, which I agree with the mods on. There are the other threads which we can defend the movie and debate with detractors like the BO, All things, or What Went Wrong thread. But realistically, there are probably more detractors of the film than fans at this board, so I can see why fans might feel overwhelmed by the arguments from the very loud naysayers. And I don't blame them. While we can't comment on the detractors, I see a few comments in the BO thread calling the posters in this thread delusional for having an opinion (that this film is good). While we can't and shouldn't badmouth them in here, I do hope Mods would feel the same in other threads. If they want to debate, take it up with the posters who post in those threads. I do know a few posters who still post in BO thread to give their take on the numbers and debate. That's totally fine. But don't smack talk and call posters in here delusional for liking a film they want to dump at while we're in here. I think that's fair.
Perhaps the usefulness of this thread has decreased, since I see other threads like the one made by LamboMan which discusses a major theme, and that was what I intended this thread to be originally, to discuss flaws, themes, hidden meanings, and various things without having the same few detractor posters just posting to dump on the movie. I guess this thread could still be a place to talk about general themes, constructive criticism (without the hate please), and things we like and want more of, etc. I would suggest posters keep the comments of detractors in other threads to a minimum. You can still show appreciation for this thread without talking too much about all the detractors. The key thing is to keep it clean in there.
I wasn't being condescending. I was simply explaining my logic when I closed the old thread (which became a place to go and bash people who didn't agree with those who liked the movie) and opened this one. It is a place to come and talk about the aspects of the movie that you like. Its not a place to bad mouth the movie. Its not a place to debate the movie. It is a place to be positive. Perhaps I could've articulated it between but I was being sincere in my post.
Oh brother. As someone who was on the staff three days ago, I can assure you that you are being melodramatic. No one is sitting around in the mod board, twirling their mustaches, plotting to be dictators.
Pump the brake pedal, bud. I recall the reason this thread was made was because somebody didn't like the fact we were making remarks like "I came in here to escape the negativity of that 'other' thread," and so on.
You recall, do you? Believe it or not, staff members do not share every reason behind decisions with Aejej. The thread was closed because people were using it as a place to badmouth those who disagreed with their take on the movie, that led to people coming in and defending their viewpoint, and then folks complaining that the haters were coming into the positivity thread and being negative. Thus, the thread was closed. It was reopened as a thread to talk about what you liked about the movie/be positive about it. Nothing more, nothing less. Sorry we didn't send you the memo, as I said, it is not common practice to consult with Aejej before making decisions.

Then I apologize for my assumption. I just want this place to be civil and no badmouthing. People can show appreciation without talking down on others. And criticism should be allowed if it's not surrounded by an air of hate and actually contributes to the conversation.
I'm still waiting for any poster who's familiar with art to let us know what painting that is. Though I suspect it may have been created exclusively for the film.

I really loved seeing the events of MoS from a different perspective. I thought it was filmed brilliantly, gave me a real sense of dread seeing the world engine blasting away as the people in the Wayne building were just looking on a few blocks away. You couldn't ask for a better intro to Wayne's suspicion of Superman.

A quick run down of the little touches that I really like about the movie:
The use of the gravity beam sound when ever Bruce starts and ends a "knightmare".
Following Chris Reeve's lead on changing the side that Clark's hair is parted on when in his different guises.
The mirroring in imagery between Zod killing Jor-el and Doomsday killing Kal-el. (Spike on right on arm through chest)
The smile on Superman's face when he takes the girl from the fire to her family during the Day of the dead scene and how is expression grows serious when he is surrounded by "worshippers."
Overall, loved the movie, and only have one real concern, Clark's funeral being open casket. Don't know how you bring Clark back in that scenario.
(I know, I posted some of these individually throughout the thread, I just wanted to put them all in the same place.)
I posted this in another thread but seemed fitting here. Admins if this is not allowed feel free to delete:
Well, just got back from my 3rd viewing not too long ago. I'm ready to give my final thoughts. I'm sorry...... My thoughts are going to dissapoint a lot of you. This movie..... This movie was pure..... EPICNESS!!!!!
It got better with each viewing. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion of course, I've read a lot of love for this film and a lot of hate! I'm not here to change anyone's mind, if you like it or loved it likes me, I'm happy for you and high five! If you disliked or hated the film I'm sorry.
My final thoughts after seeing it 3 times and weighing in on a lot of negativity I've read I don't see where the hate is coming from at all. The story was great and the pacing was just fine to me, I've read some complaints on pacing and the story.... Again, not trying to change any of your minds but the story and pacing seemed perfectly fine to me. Man I think I got choked up more this viewing than any others. What an emotional journey Superman has had to take between these two films!
Was I the only one that thought Superman looked
totally at peace when he "died". He looked at peace when Lois was with him and holding him, but I guess he should since right before he told Lois this was his planet, his home, and he loved her, before rushing over to give Doomsday the final blow, it was like he finally accepts that no matter what he does people will cheer for him, some people will hate him, good metaphor for the society we live in today
To Ben Affleck, you sir, were absolutely fantastic as batman and Bruce Wayne! YOU ARE THE BATMAN!
Henry Cavill did awesome, it was great seeing him smile as Supes in this film, Henry's performance was great and I believe a step up from MOS.
Gal was great! Love the chemistry between her and Bruce!
Jessie as Lex, ok. First off I can understand why this portrayal of Lex may rub some people the wrong way, but I personally really enjoyed him as lex. Me opinion of course but it's almost like they took the Gene Hackman Lex but made him more cold blooded.
The fight with Bats and Supes! Wow I still smile ear to ear watching Superman throw Batman around like a rag doll when not weakened by Kryptonite. I loved how Supes continued to try to reason with him but Bats was to lost is his own nightmare to see and hear the truth.
The final revaluation the "Martha" name scene that so many seem to dislike. I just don't understand why..... So what he called her Martha instead of mom, it didn't seem awkward to me. Seemed proper, if it was Lois Sup s wouldn't have said "save my girlfriend" again, not trying to change anyone's mind but the scene was beautiful and emotional to me. I loved the exchange between Martha and Batman too lol.
Doomsday, my first viewing I was unsure, by this viewing I now truly love it! He seemed to be in it longer during this viewing and holy crap at the battle with him.
Love the winks and nods to The Dark Knight Returns and Various other comic ref Easter eggs.
My final rating on this film. 8.5 to 9.0 out of 10 yup honest to god that high I'm giving it. I think the critics hate it because it's not Marvel, I say this because I also love Marvel and have enjoyed most of their films outside of a couple and can't grasp where the hate is coming from. I'm not hating on Marvel at all, love them and a lot of their films deserve the praise they get but I can't help but feel a double standard from these critics. But of course that's just my opinion.
Closing thoughts. This film was epic, beautiful, smart..... No genius! Emotional, absolutely amazing!
To Zachary Snyder and the cast of BvS, Thank You! What a epic film and journey this film was and can't wait to see what's next!

.
It's funny I was always been afraid to see the death of Superman told on the big screen but I really loved how they did it. Loved how right before Superman takes off to deliver the final blow you can see he has fully accepted who he is and why he is there, loved the exchange with Lois. The dirt floating at the very end put a huge smile on my face!
