Rewatching MOS (stopped about 40 min in, goddam thunder) and yeah, MOS over BvS for me, and I LOVE BvS (seeing it in 2D second time on Wednesday). The Krypton opening is jaw dropping, gorgeous visuals, incredible CG, great performances by Crowe, Shannon and Zurer.

The cuts, the transitions from him as an adult, to him as a teenager, the bus rescue, him and Pa Kent, then as a kid with Ma Kent, the anxiety of his powers, back to adult, the discovery of the ship. It's truly a masterpiece for me.

I literally well up a couple of times in those first 40 min alone, the natural birth, destruction of Krypton, the whale scene (god the cinematography !), the discussion between Clark and his dad, etc.

The cinematography is goddam gorgeous too, so natural. Zack is such a gifted storyteller and visual artist. And the score, goddam, BvS' score is great, but MOS' can't be touched.

Blows my mind, still.

I agree

Just got back form my first viewing and "holy ****" that was awesome! I had high expectations and it surpassed them.

I may be more than Avengers level happy with this film.

Nice buddy, glad you enjoyed it :woot:

I'm going back tomorrow with my son and his best friend as well as my oldest daughter and my best friend. I can't wait !!

After seeing most of critiques seem irrelevant because of how totally offbase they are.

As they should be, the sheep that follow only well reviewed films make me laugh tbh.

Great to hear! Welcome to the club. )

HISHE posted a spoiler review. He was relatively positive.

But in summary, he thinks the movie didn't do well because it is joyless and people don't want a joyless Superman.

But he is hoping that is the point of this film with the "Dawn" title. That the night is darkest before the dawn. And that it gets better.

It's interesting to me how a movie now needs to have literal and ample joy in it to be inspire joy in viewers.

I thought it was plenty joyful myself, I often think people think it needs to be light and constantly jokey to be considered joyful.

Bruce Wayne's dialogue at the end of the movie, speaking to Diana shows he's a changed man because of Superman and that he's going to seek Justice into proving that there is good in this world.

I think we must allow this Universe to build and build until it becomes more clear. 2 movies in. A crap load to go. I seriously doubt when we're 5 movies in that it's going to remain as dark toned as BvS. If it does, it will bomb. I think we're sitting at an appropriate conclusion to BvS. Justice League will begin the era of Gods seeking Justice, especially now with Batman in the right frame of mind with Diana in his corner to persuade the other members.

The struggles of the team should prove to be evident and it will SHOW why the league, and especially the world, needs Superman. He'll come back with people clapping and smiling at him. When he see's that? Man! It will be powerful.

Disagree with majority of what he said (HISHE). One thing I agree with - some moments needed to be fleshed out a bit more. But the film rushed forward. Trying to get into 2:20 screen time. Beside that it was - I expected, we expected, I expected, we expected... I would've never said these words in a movie review, because it's not taking the movie for what it is and analyzing it, it's coming from a background and forcing it on the movie.

Right? Joyless is a sin. Movie about superheroes can't be joyless. People, you have Marvel for that. Plenty of giggles and jokes. Can we have a different take for a change?

Probably seeing it for the 2nd time today, looking forward to it and i cannot wait for the 3hr ultimate cut.

This is really interesting:

Frosty talks about 3 hour version of BvS...
https://youtu.be/APAcR653Ltw?t=11m35s

All those new scenes from the Ultimate cut are not deleted scenes, they are scenes that were supposed to be in the actual film we got in the theaters, but WB did not want to release film that has over 3 hours... (plus the R rating) And they planned to release this 3 hour version but backed off from that plan. And it seemed Snyder was not happy with that decision.

So I cannot wait for his Ultimate Cut version! :drl:

Yes, Ultimate cut looks more and more promising.

Isn't joy subjective anyway? I mean we all find joy in different things right? Fir ne seeing my two favourie heroes on screen together brought me joy, seeing the comic references brought me joy (especially the zombie Superman from the Dark Knight Returns), the humour from Alfred, Perry, Lex and even a great moment between Superman and Batman brought be joy etc.

I believe the upcoming films will not be as dark. BvS was about internal conflicts, it made sense. We saw some sort of resolution in the end. I believe, that in Justice League we will see a more 'traditional' depiction of these characters (Superman and Batman), so I guess the movie will be brighter. As you pointed out, Bruce is now in the right frame of mind, and Diana is there to help him find the other metahumans.

I think we'll get a team ready to work together in order to protect mankind. Justice League should be a hopeful/inspiring movie, while mantaining a serious and mature tone.

P.S. It seems Suicide Squad will be a fun action movie, and I don't think Wonder Woman will be as dark as BvS either.

Exactly I wasn't over the moon for Jurassic world, or TFA but i kept my mouth shut ... Such a great movie experience
Finally, someone else who loved BvS but was meh on TFA! I didn't feel the need to bad-mouth it either though, I will never understand that mindset.

Yeah, but you just know there will be some people like Jon on the video saying "yeah well, that's not the version in theaters, soooooo whatever !".

Producer Charles Roven also said to Frosty in another interview that Zack screened the 3 hour cut to the studio, but yeah, too much material in it. I have zero doubt the ultimate cut will be a much superior film (and I love the theatrical one), but there are legit reasons why Zack couldn't release the version he wanted.

IMAX limitations, R rating, 3 hour superhero film. It's a shame really because I can see the ultimate cut converting many who didn't like it, although certainly not those who think the theatrical cut is too long (felt short to me :D ).

Sometimes it's even hard to get what exactly reviewers mean by "joyless". They didn't enjoy the film? Or the film is grim and joyless, reviewer speaks about it's tone and mood... Who knows.

It was plenty of joy watching BvS for me. I don't remember the last time I had so many thoughts and emotions about a film I watched in a theater.

Emotional and serious movies stick with me more than pure joyful films. An example is Interstellar which is my favorite movie of all time.

But I also disagree BvS was Joyless. The final fight was pure fun. Seeing the Trinity working together wasn't fun?

And you know what the critics would say if these movies followed that formula as well, that the DCEU is a rip-off and that WB is scared to do things differently.

@Sleiek: exactly the same thing for me. Drama is more interesting, I just think it is.

For Justice League, I think it bears reminding that Terrio said the first part would be much lighter, likening BvS to Empire Strikes Back in terms of tone.

@hildenburg: you nailed it right on the head, you can never win.
