The Dark Knight Rises Nolan...add Robin!!!!!! - Part 1

Yeah, I've always maintained that bringing Dick Grayson in for the final film is the smartest way to go thematically.

You get to have your cake and eat it too - show Bruce's paternal side, bring it thematically back to the relationship between Bruce and his father, AND you don't have to actually show Robin in costume.

I still don't understand how some Batman fans can hate Robin with such a passion.

I'm not talking about people who don't want him in the movies, but people that get angry at the mere mention of him.

I'm not begrudging anyone's opinion, it's just interesting. I mean, it must be kind of hard to be a Batman fan. Do you just skip over every story with Robin in it? Sounds tiring.

I know right?

He was there before Alfred, the joker, catwoman etc and is just as an integral part of batman as them. Robin is batman's redemption, his way of reattaining his humanity and not succumbing to the monster that is batman. He is his (to coin a flash phrase) lighting rod, the thing that grounds him, the one person (apart from Alfred) that he regards as his family. Bruce lost his family when he was nine years old. When he becomes batman it looked like he is destined never to have one again. But through Alfred and robin (and perhaps batgirl and maybe even gordon) he has created a new family for himself. Ok admittedly not a normal one but a family nevertheless.

Robin is important not because he was there from (almost) the start but because of what he means thematically to the whole batman mythos. He is part of batman's healing process from the death of his parents. Those who doubt me pick up " A lonely place of dying."

Marv Wolfman and George Perez explain better than I ever could, just why batman needs a robin. :cwink:

Seconded.

are u sick? HELL no no robin. the character has always been a mistake and an excuse for parents to feel batman isnt dark enough. Robin should be eliminated from the original mythos to begin with. He was created for the purpose of parents *****in about their the batman world being too dark

robin aint none of that...robin was merely created for the purpose of parents who felt batman was too dark

no thank you...bale's batman is too young for robin to come in anyway hence why nolan said his movies are while robin is still in diapers somewhere lol

As far I know Robin's creation was a brilliant marketing effort. He was the first kid sidekick. Sales shot through the roof and, after his appearance, mutiple heroes suddenly adopted their own "Robin".

And yes, his birth resulted in making Batman a little less dark . . . I guess. They took away his gun for obvious reasons. But you look at Batman - he's still a very dark character. And the lot of people who slam Robin don't know that he's there in issue #1. And he does anchor Batman in a way. Whether you like him or not, Robin's been an integral part of the Batman mythos.

Parents had nothing to do with it.
He was actually created for two purposes:

1) to be the "watson" to batman's "sherlock holmes". Before Robin batman had no-one to talk to so whenever he used his detective skills he had to talk to himself (which got tedious).

2) He was someone for the audience (which were usually 6-15 year old boys) to relate to.

Effectively he was created to be an audience surrogate. But he has grown into so much more over the years

It looks like it won't matter how people feel about Robin... because Nolan has added him to TDKR! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Bloody hell that nearly gave me a shock. :wow:

That isn't concrete at all. While I would like robin in the movies once more I really don't think Nolan wants to include him.

I agree with this thread. Nolan should add Robin...

...Williams.

But on a serious note, Robin has never been my cup of tea. I don't hate the character, nor does the mere mention of him throw me into a fit of boiling, white-hot rage like some people. Still, I'd rather not see him in TDKR. Just out of personal preference.

Fair enough (I was like that with catwoman but look what happened there ). To be honest I would prefer maybe one more movie of a lone batman and then when Nolan is gone, introduce robin.

1) Not really
2) Doubt its true
3) You could've said it was a rumor instead of saying "is adding him"

Granted, I could have. But I wanted a...

RISE

...out of you.

Robin would make a badass and timely addition to the cast and narrative. Ever read Dark Victory?

:trans:

i never saw Robin as all that badass in Dark Victory :S

she goes away from the female badguy, usually they have to just grab a gun and act like John McLane but she gets whip cream... she's got a plan

burton's movies were perfect without him and so are Nolan's

Are Loeb's boring and highly overrated stories all that people who consider themselves batfans read?
Robin Year One is a better example
A very good story that could easily be adapted into a movie.

****ting dick nipples. Google them. You wont be able to unsee it. :csad:

That point is simply ridiculous. And no, none of their movies was perfect.
