The whole reception hall?
Or just the deposit? My deposite was a few hundred dollars, which would hurt to lose, but not as much as laying down a few thou.
My coworker has a guy friend who got married. Turns out his fiancee had checked out of the relationship and was cheating on him during their engagement, but felt she needed to go through with the wedding. Her happy act dropped from her face the minute they left the reception hall. He had no clue up until then.
Save yourself the headache, and the money. If you're going to break up with her, do it now.
I was at my 10-year high school reunion a few weeks ago. A couple of really nerdy book-smart guys have extremely well-paying jobs and bought condos already. In the area, a basic condo could go for more than a half-mil, easy. It is the most expensive real estate in the country.
I'm not exactly sure if they were expecting more action from the women from owning a house (it doesn't seem like they ever did up to that point), but something tells me that if they weren't getting any action before, owning a house by itself may not help.
