I don't think he's been confirmed by Sony or Webb yet. It's just been rumored that Giamatti is in talk to play him.

He's been listed in the official synopsis from Sony, but there's a chance Giamatti might just be the Rhino pre-transformation/suit configuration, what have you.

I really don't want Rhino to be a fight scene and nothing more, he needs to fit into the story in some form or fashion.

Why would he have to bulk up? He'd be encased in a giant suit.

How many times will he not learn his lesson and pay the price? Because we know Gwen is going to die at some point.

The lesson isn't learned until Gwen dies.

It's even that way in the comics.

Captain Stacy dies (though not to the fault of Peter).

Then Gwen dies (Peter's fault).

I hope Giamatti is purely a scientist who is the one responsible for the genetic experiements. Well, someone has to replace Conners. Really don't want to see him as a hulking CG enhanced villian. Please, no.

I will say that this is some of the most out of left field casting I have ever heard of. Up there with Topher Grace as Venom.

Yes but unlike Topher, we know that Giamatti can pull it off. He's the type of actor who puts in a great performance even if the movie is crap (Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes). I'm not worried. We've got two quality actors playing two villains who've never been in a Spider-Man film before. Bring it on, I say.

I'm assuming they're going to go with the whole 'man in the robotic suit' from the ultimate universe, cause something tells me Giamatti isn't quite cut for the rule physically. Not sure if this has been discussed (I doubt it hasn't, though) but that's the only sensible route they could go down.

I didnt mean that as a criticism, I'm just surprised. Giamatti is a top notch actor, so his casting can only be seen as a good thing.

I'm hoping it's a 'Van Atter' type i.e. never turns into his alter ego (Proto Goblin).

Big fan of Giamatti, but I do not like the proposed direction they are going for with The Rhino at all. I have never read anything Ultimate, but a guy in a battle suit sounds poor compared to the classic 616 Rhino to me, not to mention something that wouldnt give Spiderman much of a challenge.

Eh,feelings are mixed on this.It could look cool, but I always thought Rhino made for a better Hulk villain than Spidey villain.

thats why i wouldnt be surprised if he isnt a main villian but more of an obstacle early on in film

There is no "proposed direction" yet for this character. All that's been announced is the actor and the character he's playing. So I dunno where you get this proposed direction you speak of.

i think foxx implied he and spider-man formed a partnership in some way, not that he partnered up with another villain.
