Person Of Interest - Part 2

My mother brought me to this show, but she doesn't watch it anymore because she says it is too sci-fi. I still like it, but they need to add something back to the show to keep my long term interest. I don't like a villain who is essentially a talking computer. Samaritan shouldn't be SkyNet.

I remember Jonah saying when pitching a show to the tv network, you should never ever tell them what the show is really about.

Great episode.
I appreciated Root's video game reference "She's in God mod" and her balcony fight with Martinator.
Interesting flashback with Harold and the previous iterations of The Machine.

He got CBS then because i think they totally thought they were getting another procedural with the twist of the machine. This show is way more scifi than I ever imagined it would be when I saw the pilot.

Far as I know, there aren't any plans to have Samaritan talk. At NYCC, it was indicated that they liked how ominous and creepy it all is if Samaritan just communicates in text. I think Samaritan, though, is basically supposed to be SkyNet. On the most basic level, I think it's supposed to be, atleast.

Yeah, it was a nice callback to the Season Two finale, too, where she and Reese were pretty much unstoppable.

Yeah, I think the way they play it too, in a rather nontraditional manner in terms of sci-fi, that some viewers might not even view it as sci-fi. Even though, I mean obviously, it is.

Also interesting when Nolan talked about how they had to fight CBS on the Machine, and how CBS didn't want the Machine to be seen or talked about, keeping it completely unknown.

Btw...did they actually take the Root/Shaw flirtation from playful to possibly something more tangible? Root told Finch, "If I don't make it, tell Shaw..." and Finch replied, "I think she already knows."

The Root and Shaw thing to me came out of nowhere. Though in retrospect it makes sense because of the amount of time they have spent together. While watching at the time I never felt like there was anything going on there.

Really ? They were several times when they talked together where I could sense something between them mainly from Root. I could tell Root cares about Shaw in an intimate way and even if Shaw is emotion proof she felt it too.

yeah for the most part Root showed more feelings towards Shaw it was only until the final of season 3 that Shaw somewhat admitted that she cared for Root by telling John and Hersh that she couldn't let Root go alone with her solo mission.

Watching at the time I took it as part of her craziness.

Damn, damn, damn. What an episode! Those Root/Fincher scenes were so powerful. Seeing Root so lost and Fincher admitting that she's now considered as a friend. Some amazing acting there from Acker. I love Root. :hrt: And yeah, I'm sensing foreshadowing there. I'm thinking either her or Shaw will die this season.

I hate cliche girl fights but I'd love a showdown between Shaw and Martine.

Have to admit there is a very strong femininity angle to this show. Which is refreshing. The all powerful one is female so is their version of Nick Fury. Finch is the one playing hard to get. Reese is the one with emotional turmoil.

Think it's brilliant.

It's sad that this show is never brought up whenever people talk about the few TV shows that have great, strong, and independent female characters. This show has A LOT of them. Co-leads, supporting characters, anti-heroes, villains, etc! The Machine, Root, Shaw, Carter, Control, Martine, etc.

They were very flirty with each other (especially Root) but I never thought it went anywhere more than that but if so then I'm in! They're cute together.

The thing is Root is always flirty. it's part of her charm. But you can see Shaw lighten up a bit when they are together. Even if she does call her a psycho. Fusco does the same but you can tell she actually scares him.

Samiritan talks and issues orders. For me, it's SkyNet, but I'll keep that on the low. My basic complaint is the machines are doing a lot of ordering and controlling. Another issue is the "persons" that are human act really robotic, i.e. Root and the blond hair woman. At this point....I'm waiting for Neo to arrive.....

They act robotic because they are following Samaritans orders. Like when Root does it. Step forward now, wait, 12 Oclock shoot, step back etc... this was why she and root were equally matched as the computers were giving orders. Like a chess match each countering the others move. It was only because root was protecting someone that she took the hit in order to save their life.

Yes, I understand that. It was made VERY clear several times in this episode and in others, but robotically controlled humans are.....still....bland. The show lacks when it focuses on SkyNet.1 vs. SkyNet2.0

I have to disagree heavily on that. That's when the show is at it's best.

Always wondered though. Why doesn't Finch just send an e-mail saying what is going on to all the newspapers/tv/politicians/amnesty/my neighbours cat.

Samaritan wouldn't be able to stop them all investigating. The government will stop funding and launch an investigation. Samaritan might f about a bit but they could eventually stop it. Design a virus that wipes out the AI or something.

We will disagree on that. I like the more humanistic episodes.

Maybe because he is cupable.

Like a soup? Only joking. I think he's a bit beyond caring what the authorities would do to him. If he managed to stop Samaritan, he'd think it worth it.

Not sure what they could arrest him for. His original design was for the government. He's had no part in Samaritan. He hasn't killed anyone. Might have hacked a few things but he was trying to save lives.

This show is basically going in the direction of the Forbin Project ( a film which Jonah and Greg mentioned numerous times to be a fan of)

Colossus: The Forbin Project is a 1970 American science fiction thriller film. It is based upon the 1966 novel Colossus, by Dennis Feltham Jones, about a massive American defense computer, named Colossus, becoming sentient and deciding to assume control of the world.

Plot Dr. Charles A. Forbin (Eric Braeden) is the chief designer of a secret government project that has built an advanced supercomputer, called "Colossus", to control all of the United States and Allied nuclear weapons systems. Colossus is impervious to attack, encased within a mountain and powered by its own nuclear reactor. When it is activated, the President of the United States (Gordon Pinsent) announces its existence at a press conference, proudly proclaiming it a perfect defense system that will ensure peace.

Shortly after, Colossus sends a cryptic message: "Warn: There is another system". Moments later, the President learns the Soviets will shortly be activating their own version of Colossus, a computer known as "Guardian". Forbin tries to figure out how Colossus learned of Guardian's existence.

Colossus asks that communications be established with Guardian. The President allows the construction of the communications link to help determine the Soviet machine's capabilities. Once the link is established, Colossus begins sending messages, starting with simple mathematics but becoming increasingly more complex. After a while, Guardian responds. Soon the two machines begin communicating in a binary language that the scientists cannot interpret.

That would never work Samaritan checks every email, voice message and text sent all over the world.

always been a HUGE fan of Colossus: the Forbin Project, one of the first ever films that dealt with two AI's that eventually join forces and take control of the world...

How are the ratings this week? Should we start being scared of possible cancellation?
