Perfect pic to describe my reaction to that ending. What a tremendous episode last night. Quality TV is quality. Definitely one of the best eps of the show and count me in as someone who enjoyed the character of Shaw.

I'm gonna rewatch it again later.
yes it was Glitch Mob -Fortune Days :woot: love their stuff

I flipped when I realized it was Fortune Days! :awesome: The music in POI has always been on point. They picked the right song from Glitch Mob like they did with Mogwai (another one of my favorite bands) for the ending of "Foe". (S1/Ep8):

Agreed, Jono and Greg have a great feel for music for certain scenes, I love the fact that they said its one of the things they enjoy about the show is choosing what music to have in each episode.

In an interview with Zap2It, Nolan/Plageman and Shahi talked more about Shaw's "death" and the future of the show. Shahi has walked back on her hard 2 year timetable in coming back and she'll come back when she feels ready. Nolan/Plageman said they don't have an immediate intention on replacing Shaw. The season will likely continue with the team reeling from another loss and Samaritan continuing its hunt for the Machine. It does sound like they'll eventually get some new cast members but likely bring some familiar ones also (please be Leon or Zoe but Elias is definitely going to show up again.)

I wasn't as enamoured with the ep as everyone else but the last 5 minutes was epic, when Shaw showed up and the survival chance % rocketed up I grinned, and then she went down John Woo style. :(

It's not the show's fault that between the two minority actresses, one wanted to have a limited run from the get-go and the other got pregnant, while the white males are in for the long haul... they add and subtract characters as they go. I don't think it'll be a big deal in the long run.

The casting should have nothing to do with race anyway, it shouldn't be about ticking boxes off for the sake of it.

loved the simplified simulation, the generic dialog was awesome

Reece "cooly delivered sadistic warning"

Fusco:"self-deprecating inquiry into time necessary to infiltrate system"

Root:"funny, yet insightful retort"

Finch:"mildly agitated declaration of mission completion"

"gentle exhortation to further action"

Root:"overly affectionate greeting"

Shaw:"greeting"

Root:"transparent rationale for conversation"

Shaw"annoyed attempt to deflect subtext"

Root:"overt come-on"

Shaw:"mildly embarrassed defensiveness bordering on hostility"

Root:"playfully witty signoff"

I loved that scene. :funny:

My first thought was "CHARLIE!!!!!"

I really like Amy Acker; and I think Root is wonderfully twisted. I had this feeling, however, that she'd be the next character to get the ax. But now, it’s like she’s got “magical immunity.” I mean - what are the chances they’d kill off three women in a row? :word:

Killing off Harold would probably be the ballsiest move they could do. That would absolutely shift the dynamics of the team. Reese would be a close second in terms of impact now.

I, too, have been waiting for Leon to finally show up again. Zoe, however, might not stand as good a chance of playing a major role, since they seem to be setting up John with his therapist.

Also, that detective lady from earlier this season is scheduled to return, she could also play a larger role.

Oh god this episode :wow:. I'm so confused about Shaw's fate cause first of all that ending :csad:, but then in the promo for the next episode, they're all looking for her so I got my hopes up again. But now apparently she's leaving :csad:. I mean, stop toying with my emotions :argh:

Fusco kissing Root and the whole simplified simulation was hilarious though .

Oh man, I cant believe I only just found this thread now, I have been a huge POI fan since the very first episode ( IMO the best pilot episode for a tv show ever).

Not sure if Shaw is really dead, but Sarah Shahi is definitely out of the picture for the foreseeable future. If Shaw is actually dead then it was a good way to go out. I think its possible that final gunshot may have been Shaw shooting Martine, and Decima does tend to recruit its enemies e.g. Kara Stanton... But I think its more likely that its a Nolanesque ending (a bit like the spinning top) or maybe to spare us seeing a character we've grown to care about get shot in the head .
It is sad to see Shaw go , as she's been a great character, but I think it was handled well.

On another note, I have a couple of theories I'd like to share with fellow POI enthusiasts.
First, it will ultimately be Harold who kills Greer - for the unforgivable sin of putting mankind at Samaritan's mercy - the ultimate perversion of what Finch was trying to achieve. This would be a very significant step for Finch, who abhors violence, but it would be a nice touch.

Second , Root will die in the process of destroying Samaritan. Now that Shaw is gone all she has left is the machine -she's like its prophet and probably its martyr. She ll go out with a bang, but I doubt Root will survive another season.

Third, the machine will reveal that it has other operatives maybe even a whole other team out there, working away without Finch's knowledge. Maybe theyll turn up and save team Finch at a crucial moment ?

Finally, My overall prediction for the show is that it will end with the apparent destruction of the machine (possibly by Finch himself). Hopefully Jonah will take a page from his big brothers book and give Reese and Finch happy endings - or at least one of them. I think they'll die in a figurative sense, as in take on new identities and new lives- but otherwise they'll move on. However, the final image/shot will reveal that the machine is still alive and well and calculating away.

The one character who I think will make it to the end of the show relatively unchanged is Fusco. Surrounded by supercops, super spies and, super hackers he sort of represents the everyman, which is why I dont think he'll get killed off.
In terms of the machine and samaritan being mentioned in front of him, I bet Reese will just tell him that it's stuff he really is much safer not knowing about, and Fusco being Fusco will shrug it off and happily remain a white square.

I dont have any real substantive predictions re Elias, other than that he will eventually win his war with Dominic. He's most dangerous when he looks beaten. Maybe he and the brotherhood will wipe each other out, but either way I can't see Dominic coming out on top.

Otherwise season four so far =Wow ! Team machine vs decima, Elias vs the Brotherhood , what next ?

Personally I found season 3 to be much stronger than season 2, especially with the terrific story arc leading up to Carters death, and the aftermath - but season 4 is turning out to be on a similar level.

Much like most of you I cant wait to see Greer get what's coming to him.

"Cooly delivered sadistic warning" Indeed !

Supposedly fans saw Paige Turco filming some scenes with Jim Caviezel just before the New Year so it does appear she'll show up (likely in episodes 15 or 16 since they weren't exactly sure which episode was being filmed), but in a fairly limited capacity due to her being on The CW's The 100.

I really like Amy Acker; and I think Root is wonderfully twisted. I had this feeling, however, that she'd be the next character to get the ax. But now, it’s like she’s got “magical immunity.” I mean - what are the chances they’d kill off three women in a row? :word:
There's already a bit of a suspicion from certain fans that the staff doesn't care for its women characters like they do their male counterparts and killing Root before a male one would be another piece of evidence for them. I think for the time being, they won't kill off another member because the cast would start feeling awfully small and it would just pull the rug out from a lot of fans that already don't like losing the cast members they've grown to like.

So bummed out about Shaw. Love that character.

And it's amazing how Fusco still doesn't know about the Machine. I'd love for half an episode be Finch, Reese, and Root explaining everything to him just for classic Fusco reactions.

I think they were going to tell him but he told them that he'd rather not know.

Overtly emotional, mildly humorous, overwritten, comment.

Deep sadness and great admiration.

Finch did say in the first episode that he and Reese would likely end up dead at some point.

Yeah, he did. I'm not sure if it was so much about predicting they're own fate on the show, so much as conveying the futility of their endeavor. What they undertook, even in a pre-Samaritan world, was impossible because it's never ending. Stopping crime, a war on crime...never ends. The war can never be won. And, they're doing it as vigilantes.

I think it was more about conveying how the futile the mission is, and less about promising onscreen deaths for these two characters.

I also think that line is brought up whenever any character dies onscreen, too, by indicating that nobody on the show is safe. Which was why I yelled at my TV when Reese caught a bullet in the back.

yeah that and also when Finch was conversing with the Machine about the decisions the Machine is gonna have to make and about how one day he (Finch) will no longer be there, I thought to myself, oh Sh** not Finch

I did the same thing when the Machine showed the chances of survival after Shaw miraculously appeared, but I also still feel the show lost it's chance, or "jumped the shark" after it brought Samaritan to the fore (... or on line).

This whole show down between machines and their operatives is boring. At this point it would be wise to kill both Finch, John, Root, Shaw, and everyone else, so they can start fresh.

Finch did say in the first episode that he and Reese would likely end up dead at some point.
It's looking more and more likely that Finch and John will die soon. I don't want to root for that, but I'm not liking this Machine vs. Samaritan show down so far...

wat... Really? This show has never been better.

wat... Really? This show has never been better.

Agree ! While I love the one off POI of the week episodes this season
has raised the tension to a new height. Season 3's story arc that lead to Carters
death and its aftermath was awesome (and contained the two best Fusco moments ever and "the devils share" my fav episode) but this season has really taken the team to new places
and I feel the character development has never been stronger (especially for Harold as he finds himself doing things he never thought he'd do -he's becoming a littlr more like Root and she's becoming a little more like him)
my only complaint is that Reese seems to have been really pushed out of the focus, and I think an episode centred on him is well past due, as he's such a great character.

Team Machine vs Samaritan has always been Greg Plageman/Jonathan Nolan's plan from the very beginning of the show and considering they got about 2 more season left I don't expect it to change anytime soon.

wat... Really? This show has never been better.

I don't agree.

My mother who hyped me to the show has since stopped watching because....as she says..."Person of Interest is not what it used to be."

This is not just about adhering to TV standards and norms. "Persons of Interest" is not the same show. That's fact at this point.

The show has changed...and it's not a change for the better. :csad:

Samaritan's a natural progression of the show's premise.

Yes, but not a good progression.

I believe the show should have waited before it donned the machine vs. machine face off.

There's nothing left after this...
