Person Of Interest - Part 2

I'll have to disagree immensely. This show has been pretty much constantly improving since mid way through season 2 and the introduction of Samaritan and where they have gone with that is no exception, in my opinion.

So you say, obviously the writers have a plan as to what comes after this so we'll see if there is more and considering I have yet to be disappointed, I will trust there is.

The show has changed...and it's not a change for the better. :csad:

Yes, but not a good progression.

I believe the show should have waited before it donned the machine vs. machine face off.

There's nothing left after this...

wow, charl, I think you're the one and only person here on this thread that finds fault with this show now...

by the way, Queenie, I LOVE your avvy...

I for one find the 'case of the week' procedural style of the show during Season 1 extremely boring. It makes the show cliched and just like every other CBS cop show.

In the past 2 seasons they have really elevated the show by making it increasingly serialized. Much stronger character development as well. Theres no other show like it on Network television, and thats what makes it great.

Think it was time to bring in the Samaritan storyline, otherwise the plot would have gone stale. I have faith that the showrunners know what they are doing and still have plans beyond Machine vs. Samaritan.

Let's not forget the Brotherhood storyline will be back.

The show's evolution from what it was is part of what makes it so great to watch. You look at some shows after several seasons and it's the same as it was in the first season. As if nothing significant happened. Not the case with this show.

Had the show gone that direction (case of the week), I would have dropped it. I have no interest in shows like CSI where it's typically done in 44 minutes with little carrying over and characters not developing much. The fact this show has cut down on one off episodes (and even then typically has something in them that's important later) is an asset.

Though, just something I remembered while talking about one offs with important things, it's odd how Alistair Wesley from the season 2 episode "Critical" (the one with the surgeon being forced to kill her patient) just dropped off the face of the earth after an ending that seemed to set him up as a recurring antagonist. I've been working my way through the season 3 blu-ray that I got for Christmas and I hope this doesn't happen with the guy from the end of "Last Call" as well.

by the way, Queenie, I LOVE your avvy...

Thank you! :woot:

I wonder if that assassin guy from the 911 operator-ish episode will be back? That's another one that seems to be leading to an arc.

ETA: Oops. Looks like Snow Queen mentioned it already.

Yeah! I've waited for Wesley to return because he had history with John. Wonder what happened with that.

I edited at the same time you posted, oops. :hehe:

Sure there is, there are plenty of stories left to tell, and hopefully they will tell just enough of them and then finish the show on a high note ( Nolans are good at that)

In the final season Finch himself will realise that the machine itself is a pandoras box
and wwill have to destroy it. My prediction is that the machine will look like its been
destroyed in the series finale, but there will be a final nolanesque reveal that will suggest that its still out there, subtly manipulating from behind the scenes.

I'm still hoping for Finch and Reese to get happy endings, Root I'm sure wont make it to the end.

As such, I respectfully disagree with you. Cheers.

The show's progression really is quite brilliant. It starts off a procdural, and just like the AIs themselves, we see a gradual change as larger and larger issues are confronted and the stakes raised.

It works on two levels really. On a metanarrative level, we have seen a fantastic example of sneak-sci-fi as the show morphed before our eyes from a procedural with a science fiction twist into a full blown cyberpunk setting complete with Neuromancer/Wintermute standoff. It prevents the show becoming stale, but moreover it actually made a leap that many other procedural should have but almost never do.

Moreover it works on an in-universe level. The story, themes, and setting are all benefited by a gradual evolution in stakes and science fiction conflict, because a big theme of the series is how the creation of AIs shall gradually transform the globe, and that this change will happen under our noses until it's too late.

Nice neuromancer reference -one of the best sci fi books ever, Gibson is like the 20th century Jules Verne, he even predicted social media in "Virtual Light" and " Idoru". I hadnt really thought of the duelling AI's in the same way - as Wintermute/neuromancer just want to be free -I think POI is more like two more benevolent versions of Skynet duking it out. 😊

Cant wait for this week's episode. Cheers.

Just saw that charl_hutress was banned right after posting here. Looked like there was a meltdown in the BvS forum about there being too much Batman talk or something. Huh.

wow, kinda hard to believe... she's been a long-time poster... 8 years, I think... if she got caught up in a s**tstorm over in that thread, she should have just played it cool and backed off of whatever it was that might have pissed her off... I assume a perma-band?

As I understand it, she started something over there because of too much Batman talk or something. Some insulting members. Temp banned. Then she was harassing mods and Sawyer and possibly others through PMs and was perma banned.

It's a Batman vs. Superman thread; how could there be too much talk about Batman? He's a title member of the movie and forum section. At least we won't have to deal with her dissing PoI anymore.

that's funny, as she was the only one I know of that felt POI lost it's way...

wow, sounds like she just had a core meltdown on all fronts and launched a full-out assault on anyone or anything that got in her cross-hairs......

Oh, was I not the only one? If so, that's kind of a relief. I was really hoping she wasn't fixating on me.

I'm not sure, I just put that there in case others were too. Unless you mean the mods, in which case I believe at least CC was getting PMs. Unless I'm just misremembering things.

Sad that folks take these threads to far.....

Now back to POI, predictions people !

Which main cast character is going to die next ?

Are there any characters who can't die ( even Jonathan Nolan won't kill them off)?

And.... how long has the machine been a character for ?
It should almost get a credit. Its kind of like, in Lord of the
Rings the Ring itself is almost a character. But the machine even
moreso, it speaks thru Root, its watching with 10,000 eyes and listening
with 1000,000 ears and it seems to care about its human agents.
Samaritan actually speaks to its followers, the machine works in mysterious
ways, but it does to.

I think it really started at the end of season one, and then
ever so much more in season two,'s God mode episode.

Sorry, I do feel bad for CH , just thinking of the topic at hand.

Cheers.

I think Fusco is the next to go,but I also wouldn't be surprised if Root goes on her own mission to find Shaw off screen (provided Shaw is kept somewhere)
