Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

The only part of Redemption I truly hated were the BS chore missions when Marston is back home with his family. I know the developers wanted to give us a taste of his family life or something, but I don't play games to herd cattle and other tedious ****. I was happy he was with his family just by seeing him reunited with them. I didn't need to do his chores too.

Blasphemy! That's exactly what cowboys do. :woot:
Seriously, the cattle drive with John and Bonnie was one of my favorite parts of the entire game. That's Cowboy 101 right there, and I was really disappointed that it wasn't a central game dynamic --- just a mission. Hope to hell the RDR prequel is set during the golden age of cowboys (1860s to 1880s) and features epic cross-country cattle drives, just like "Lonesome Dove" or "Red River." That's a true hallmark of the Western genre, and I hope R* develops it more.

Red Dead Redemption II: The Legend of Curly's Gold

I'm callin' it now

It would be a neat mini game to have on the side. Like working odd jobs. Need some extra cash? Go herd these moo cows for a while.

As to the missions, I liked them for the sake of variety. I don't want a whole game of herding cattle or doing other chores around the farm, but then I don't want an entire game of anything. In a game where the vast majority of missions required shooting people, it was nice to have something different. The more variety the better, says I.

Named #9 on Empire's 100 Greatest Games of All-Time.
Despite a troubled four-year production process, GTA developer Rockstar Games emerged triumphant once more with another open-world tale of criminals and crime, this time at the tail end of the Old West. As John Marston, an antihero distinctly more anti than hero, you must chase down your former gang members lest your family face the consequences from an overeager group of FBI agents. The resulting horsebound opus is a playable Spaghetti Western with more than a few cinematic hat-tips and a roster of non-playable characters that are about 99 per cent utter bastards. The "Dead Eye" shooting mechanic, fluctuating morality system and lifelike horse movement are the biggest lumps of gold in an already glittering pan, with the sheer beauty of the Wild West landscapes worth the price of admission alone.

Speaking of the storyline for the game. I think for the next game if Rockstar followed something along the lines of No Country for Old Men just with atmosphere and tone (despite that movie being set in the 1980's), that would be amazing.

My solution: just hire Cormac McCarthy to write the script for this game.

McCarthy has written the best western you've never heard of: Blood Meridian. Absolutely phenomenal novel, and a genuine literary masterpiece. And everything that McCarthy ever wrote was infused with all the tools of the Western genre, even though all of them but "Blood Meridian" were set in the mid- to late 20th century. McCarthy's works have sometimes been called "urban Westerns," including No Country for Old Men and The Road.

Funny you mention that, I was just looking at a summary of that book and it totally struck me how that atmosphere would rock for a RDR game. I agree get Cormac McCarthy on board.

I just finished a Yojimbo marathon with Yojimbo, A Fistful of Dollars, and Last Man Standing and a more open ended faction manipulation system is something I'd like to see in the sequel.

The tone and atmosphere is so relentlessly dark and violent in Blood Meridian that I'm not sure I'd want to explore something like for 20 plus hours. Redemption was certainly a dark game in many ways but there lighter moments in it, humorous or even sentimental at times. You would not get that in a McCarthy script, which for a game might not work. Apparently it didn't in The Counselor. But I seriously doubt Cormac McCarthy would ever write for a video game.

I dunno if this deserves its own thread

Hello. I am a former Rockstar game dev. I will not give any more personal information for my safety. My boss was a major D*** so this is why I am leaking info on the up coming Red Dead Redemption prequel.

The sequel will be called Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West. Although it is the second (or third if you consider Undead Nightmare a sequel) game, It is chronologically before the original game. The game will take place in the same area as the original game, twelve years before the first original game.

There will be three playable characters, two of which are from the original game and one will be completely new and will not have much story line, Ill explain in a second. The two "main" characters are Irish and Seth. Irish will be brought up in Ireland and will move to the Americas when he is fifteen and moves to the game setting when he turns twenty one. Seth is from Kansas City and works as a teller in a bank. He then hears of a treasure and uses his life savings to bring his family to Texas in the town of Tumbleweed. Throughout the story we experience him unraveling to his state of mind in the original game, losing his wife, children, home, and possessions to his treasure. The third person is a character you create similar to multiplayer in GTA V. You choose his clothes and horse.

Although you can unlock outfits for Seth and Irish, the third person (Who you name) can acquire all different kinds of Western tops, bottoms, boots, gloves, and hats. Horses will also bring completely new customization to the game. You can choose there type/breed like the last game, but now you can also choose what saddle they have (with their own boosts and stats), storage, and paint. You can also buy your own safe house and customize it. Also, all of this carries over into multiplayer. There will be many new and more thought out stranger missions as well as roughly thirty campaign missions for both Seth and Irish. The third character can be involved in the campaign, but can not be used in missions. He will appear as a "gun for hire" and works with Seth and Irish, tying the stories together.

"You" (the third character) will be in free roam, but Irish and Seth can be called in as companions (but not be played as), as well as other people. You will meet many of the characters from the original game including young Bonny Macfarlane, Sherriff, and even John Marston, but he will still be in his gang.
A big new part of the RDR prequel is the new gang system. You can join several different gangs, or if you think you are up for it you can join the law enforcement of certain towns, but this will restrict you on things you can do like robbing. Although you can rob it might cost you your hard earned career and possibly your life. You can also bring in a posse (up to 4-8 friends) to single player, technically co op now. You can take on certain side missions and a few campaign missions with your posse.

RDR 2 LotW will be announced at the upcoming E3 event.
I don't expect you to believe me, but this is all true. I used to go to work every day and see this.
Thank you for your time, A former Rockstar employee and audio engineer

That Red Dead "leak" would be pretty legit, if it was true.

What about Red Dead in space? It could be like Firefy. That'd be badass.

Half-serious.

it may be bs but i do expect new read dead for this gen. at the very least, redemption remastered

don't know if it's legit or not, but i agree that a new red dead game will be on the way in some form.

Given the success of the previous game, and it's enormous fan base, a sequel is a given.

(total accident beginning and ending the sentence with 'given')

I think it was confirmed at some point that Rockstar would be doing another RDR game. Now would it be the follow up to GTA V? I don't think it was ever said, but its damn near certain they're hard at work on another title.

As for those leaks, yea im not buying it.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was an announcement at E3 for a fall release. Rockstar Games hasnt released anything but GTA V since 2013. The other branches have been working on unannounced titles for years and something has to be close to ready to show and release. GTA V has been an amazing success but I dont see them going the third year in a row with only GTA V as a release

i still want RDR for the pc... having sold my 360, i really dont want to go out and buy everything again

I want a sequel at some point but for now I would totally be fine with a remaster.

I think rockstar has become "too cool" for E3. It's been some time since they've had any real presence there. Not sure they'd use E3 as a launching point for their next game, whatever it may be.

Also, it's doubtful they'd reveal anything in the summer for a fall release. With RS it's more along the lines of trailer, one year wait, second trailer, another years wait, then release.

RS may not attend the actual show but that doesnt mean they wont have coverage during E3. Releasing a trailer or giving a website like IGN an announcement and preview footage is still a possibility

Do you really believe though that they will have no games this year outside of a GTAV PC port? I just dont see that as being the only title for the 2015-2016 fiscal year
