RoboCop Reboot - Part 3

I'm a bit bugged that everyone who commented on the footage, failed to mention if the suit got CGI enchancements.

I think Murphy being blown up instead of shot is more telling of the time we are in. Cops being shot in the 80's was often national news.

Sounds like it, though it could be a case of the cutting of the trailer making it appear so when in fact it isn't the case. I can say that if they have gone thi route in the final cut, then it is different from the leaked draft.

Just wanna say that the leaked draft had one revision after it. Scenes were changed. Some scenes didn't match with the set photos.

Lookin' forward to the final cut. Been excited since announcement

Read in a live blog taht it looked exactly like on set with a few CG changes. Not sure how credible it is since I heard that the black suit wasn't shown as well.

Kinnaman said in an interview with IGN that there is some CG to the suit

i didnt notice anyone talking how he moved. like a robot or like a guy in a suit.

if you read the comments you can see that everyone had zero expectations and expected the worst. this is good.

Director Jose Padilha said they were pretty much aiming for a PG-13. “We were shooting the movie to be seen by the broadest possible audience, which means PG-13. This whole idea about ‘RoboCop’ has to be “R” because the first one was amazingly violent… I never really bought into that. You know, ‘The Dark Knight’ was PG-13, so you can get away with a lot.”
Sam Jackson added, “It would be “R” for its time, not “R” now." Padilla agreed, “Yeah, maybe now it isn’t.”
Has Sam Jackson gone crazy or what ?

That thing was actually an X the first time it was submitted. They had to cut the ED-209 slaughter.

I have to say, if this does not at least have the over the top violence or biting dark humor of the original I think I and many others will be unhappy. Of course if this comes out and getts younger audience members to discover the original then at least it will have done that. Btw, I have no prob with the new suit and think it has a hell of a cast. A full trailer will give us a better idea about tone I guess.

I agree with this. The dark humor and the social commentary is crucial to the mythos otherwise it becomes a generic futuristic spectacle. By the way, with all this talk about Dredd a few pages back, it occurred to me that the tone of that movie and the violence would suit perfect for the new Robocop. In fact I think it had the level of violence and tension that Robocop '87 and movies of that era in general had.

After the footage description and thematic details I went from a pessimistic skeptic to a cautious optimist.

I like the updated subtext. Though it didn't need updating since the old version is still relevant, a shot-for-shot remake would've been disastrous from the get go.

If Robocop in the original had been blown up with a car bomb instead of the gruesome scene and they got rid of the excessive cussing from the original it would be skirting the PG-13 line.

I am sure that is what Sam Jackson means.

Jackson is a pro. he knows how to promote a movie. its a lie to getthe fanbase on your side.

It would be “R” for its time, not “R” now." trying to manipulate into thinking that its similar violence.

Well that and they show drug use in the original I doubt we'll see that here.

Eh... absolutely no...

In any case you don't need over the top violence and drug use to get the same commentary Robocop has. That was more the director's style then anything else.

Little offtopic here, but I read on the news about the Detroit situation (I'm not from the US). It reminded me of the fictional Robocop version of Detroit, what a shame.

Plenty of violence in pg-13 now a days... what pushes it over the top now is blood sex drugs and cussing.

God Bless America

I'm not even sure about the drugs part.

Nothing like the scenes in the original Robocop though, not in a PG-13 anyway.

Of course not. People here have delusions and sucked too much of the studio propaganda. And PG-13 movies from the 80s had a lot of gruesome scenes, too...

Okay. Name a PG-13 movies where a person gets splashed by car, a robot totally destroyes a human body, shootouts with lots of blood...

Come on, do it.

Casino Royale is violent as hell
Live Free or Die Hard is just cussing and blood away from an R rating
The Dark Knight was a knife away from an R
Taken was pretty damn close

Sorry my memory isn't great enough for specifics.
