RoboCop Reboot - Part 4

The trailer has convinced me that this may actually be worth going to the cinema to see...
Loved the line at the end.

I think this may end up being a good film in its own right. However, the first Robocop film is still the best in my mind.

I don't think the goal of the remake is to beat the original at its own game or even basic nostalgia.

I think the goal is to take a tried and true concept and explore new territory and untouched moral questions.

That is commendable.

If Hollywood could make a franchise out of every remake they would.

But remakes 9 times out of 10 get a luke warm reception.

Plus your definition basically concludes that any failed reboot qualifies as a remake.

And your definition requires that a new film based on Pride and Prejudice would be a reboot. Truth is, its just a new adaptation of the source material.

Booting something up implies you're going to do something with it...and if they make a new Of Mice and Men, they likely will not be planning any future work with the property. There isn't an Of Mice and Men trilogy coming.

Often times what you would call a remake is not a remake at all. The recent Friday the 13th film covered the ground of the original 1, 2 and 3. So...if they make a sequel, is it a remake of part 4? What if it tells the EXACT story from part 4? Should it then be called Friday the 13th part 4, even though it is only the second in the current continuity?

Really, it's all semantics...you knew what I meant...and it's silly to argue over. Hell, technically "reboot" has to do with a computer, not a movie...so if you're going to split hairs, why not start there?

Robocop is a reboot, they're trying to do a new franchise. Plain and simple.

The original is one of my favorite movies...
I wasn't too fond of the idea of a remake and I HATED the first few shots we got of the suit.
After that and a few other things,I couldn't even give enough of a **** to complain about it or even skim news about it anymore.
I actually completely forgot about it until yesterday when the trailer was posted.:funny:

was soooo ****ing ready to hate on it....but I liked it.
I liked it ALOT.
I seriously can't wait to see it now.

I don't mind the black suit all that much now that I've seen it in action, but would have obviously prefered that it was silver.
The silver/classic-ish suit in the trailer is soooo ****ing badass and I wish it was the final suit, but I'm glad that we will be seeing it for at least a portion of the movie.
A nice nod to the original and I like the idea of his suit going through various versions and being upgraded.

The one thing that I will say that I'm rather worried about is how much we see his actual face in the trailer.
It looks like he will spend a lot of time with his faceplate retracted.
Like he'll only be using it while in action.:csad:

I think there are three types of people responding to the trailer.

Those who welcome a unique spin on the original.

Those who wanted a shot for shot remake of the original.

Those who think the original is untouchable and any remake is an insult.

After the first set pics I was in the third camp. After comic-con and the trailer I find myself more and more embedded in the first.

Well I guess Im in a 4th camp lol.

I think the original is untouchable but I welcome a unique spin and take.

Because I think this way, it doesn't offend me. The original IS untouchable. Its in a league of its own and always will be. It can't be outdone by any movie(robo 2, 3, Remake) thats trying to be what it never can be(Robo 87). Im comfortable with the Remake because they are trying to be different! I think they know they are no match for the original and never could be.

I love that they've made him more agile in this movie.
I realize that they were going for a walking tank type thing in the original, but I've always hated the way it makes him look in certain scenes..
like when the guy is trying to run him down at the plant and crashes into the waste container...
The way robocop looks when he walks out of the way of the truck is just....:funny:

Wow wake up to see people pretty much completely divided on this, which I assumed would be the case. Main point I have to those saying it's not enough like the original is the same thing I'll say of any remake why not just go watch the original, don't you want the filmmaker and creative team to put their own spin on the classic story?

If not really what's the point? Another run of the mill shot for shot remake? No thanks

really surprised by reaction i saw trailer and movie looks amazing

Yeah, I was really surprised. That looked great!

I'll be keeping an eye on this.

I love his voice as well, Joel is one of the best things about the trailer which I was hoping for, his mannerisms and the way he moves is very Robocop for me.

Nope. Not feeling it. Looks safe and sanitized. And I do not like that design.

I must be the only one that actually doesn't mind the black suit as much after seeing it in action.

Visually, I LOVED the trailer. I think the design work is stellar in the film, and it's good to see that there's a design for Robocop that's reminiscent of the original.

I think they've got a really good cast, especially Oldman and Keaton.

Storywise, you can definitely tell that they decided to go in a completely different direction than the original, and I think that was a very good idea. The likelihood of it measuring up to the original was always a lost cause, but I could definitely see this working as a reinterpretation of the material that's relevant for today. And I'm warning up to the idea of him knowing that he's still Murphy, coupled with this idea of OCP allowing him to think he's in control when he really isn't. I think that'll make for an interesting conflict once he starts to truly override his programming.

From what I saw in the trailer, it's worth me personally giving it a chance.

If not really what's the point? Another run of the mill shot for shot remake? No thanks
who? who wants a shot for shot remake? who in the history of mankind wanted a shot for shot remake of an old movie? Psycho fans? :cwink:

I have mixed feelngs about this, the trailer looks better than I expected. I love the voice, the suits are meh, silver is better than black. the suit looks more...well like a suit than a machine. i love the original and know this one won't touch it, but i love robocop and to have another movie that does him a good service, well who am i to complain?

its clear they're trying to push a different message with this one though, one that seems perfect for the times. i love the whole illusion of free will, and the governt being hellbent on justice.

overall i'll be there in the cinema, for sure, so i have hope it wont dissapoint.

This trailer left me with a residing "meh".

Looks very much like a generic action movie, so I'm not feeling it. But hopefully I'll be wrong.

now with the trailer we have conformation that they didnt erase parts of the suit to make it look like a robot. like in Total Recall.
so it looks like a heavy thick suit.

the grey looks more like a robot. the shoulder area looks more like a robot in the grey suit. the black is just a bad design. its black with some TDK parts. its ...just black.

I still don't like the bare hand or the black suit (hope that will change), but I loved everything else. Can't wait for this movie.

I'm sure I'm not breaking any new grounds here by stating that the trailer was pretty exciting. I'm definitely looking forward for this movie. Also, I really hope Hot Toys gets the license for this. Would love both his designs to be sculpted.

what is the final fight? the shots in the trailer where he is destroying robots is part of the training since the police is around him.

is it when the robots are walking through the streets?

Let's be fair here guys.

I loved Robocop. I still do. Maybe because Paul Verhoeven ( fellow countrymen ) made it? Dunno :oldrazz:

I still believe the violence in the movie made it into the classic it is today. Back in the day the movie was fresh, gruesome and original. Storywise ... it was nothing new. Same goes for Starship Troopers. Do you remember that because of the story? Or because of the way everyone got slaughtered?

Now this remake comes along and tries to do things a little different. Yet, it suffers from remake-eritis. Every single remake suffers from this. Why? Because we've all seen it before.

Nontheless.. I'm going to see this movie. Trailer suprised me.
