I know Youtube views doesn't mean much, but I'm surprised that the trailer has 16 million views.

That usually happens when the company behind the movie keep only one Youtube copy of the trailer, and it's the same one linked to most movie sites. I don't know if that's the case with Robocop, but it sure helps doing it that way.

also MGM studios took down most robocop related videos off youtube so when people do a search for "robocop" the trailer for the remake is what first shows up.

Right, so yes then. They did their job.

it's the big corporation manipulating the media.
ironic how mgm is doing that to sell a movie which criticizes the very thing.

That's because the trailer for the Robocop reboot has the most views, and likes, of any Robocop related vid.

Saint, you may want to remove that video due to the language.

korean robocop loves fried chicken.
korean robocop > korean jesus?

Korean Robocop is so avant-garde he was rocking the red visor waaaay before Robo-Holder!

Ok after lurking here for a long time I have the urge to say something .The bashing and the negativity towards this movie is not funny anymore .At least here are some who think this might be actually good and seems to keep a open mind towards a movie that only has a leaked script ,a few set pics from random people and a two minutes trailer.I haven´t seen the original Robo from 1987 so I might have not the same nostalgic feeling some might have LOL ,but why not a reimagine from a movie .We do it all the time since 2000 years -this is nothing new ,it´s not invented from Hollywood .Would we still know one single stage play from Shakespeare ,if they wouldn´t bring new Interpretations from the same theme since 400 years ??? Hamlet ? Mel Gibson did it ,Kenneth Branagh did it .It´s not saying they all are great reimagines but at least it was made .Do we need the 66 version of Hamlet ? Probably not but everyone can watch the version he likes the most and avoids the version he doesn´t like .At least every generation has the chance to see his own version .Maybe this movie sucks ,maybe not -let´s wait and see .I don´t know a movie from the director ,but there are at least some good actors in it, so this makes me feel good .I agree that Hollywood creates a lot of crap in recent years ,though ,but maybe we have luck and this turns out at least ok .

For example ( and this might be unpopular ) ,I love the Nolan Batman movies and I think the actors are great ( my forum name gives a hint that i am a HUGE Oldman fan LOL ) ,still Michael Keaton remains my favorite Bruce Wayne until today .I saw Burtons Batman as a kid ( with 15 ) and I saw the Nolan ones when i was a adult .I like both versions the way they are and I have no problem that they excist beside each other .This could be a solution for the old and new Robo too.Live and let live LOL.

BTW why are there always "conspiracy" theories about MGM manipulating YT?Isn´t it possible that actually 16 Billion people clicked on the trailer to watch it just because they are intersted ?

Sorry for my English ,it´s not my native language :)

it's not a conspiracy. MGM was took down lot of robocop youtube videos via copyright infringement. they did this right before the trailer was released. there use to be tons of robocop vids, but if you do a search now, lot of them are gone.

but i agree with u. i think folks should keep an open mind about this. live and let live. if the remake is good, then we have one more cool robocop movie to watch. if not, there's always the original to go back to.

still, i think you should watch the original movie first. :cwink:
it's great!

i'm thinking bout getting the blu-ray or criterion collection dvd for the original now. anyone have opinions on which is better?

Save your money, and get the regular DVD set. The transfer on the Blu Ray isn't great, and looks like the DVD set.

I can't wait until we get a proper transfer before the release of the remake.

FIRST REACTION TO THE ROBOCOP REBOOT/SPOILER FREE from CBM:

"From the outset, the trailer that was released should convey that this is a very different Robocop. The set pictures that surfaced online showed the black suit everybody is in an uproar about. First off, there’s very little CG in that trailer. What was immediately apparent was that the screens of the suit look different than was reflected in cut we saw. Also in the movie industry, a different person mixes the trailers than the movie. Secondly, nobody stops to think, why did they film those outdoor scenes first? I’ll tell you now, there are quite a few surprises in store for you. If you even paid half attention to the trailer that was released, you would see that the original suit makes at the very least a brief cameo (and I’m perplexed by the bulkiness of the still they released of the old suit… it didn’t look like that in the cut we were screening).
I’m writing this to tell you to relax. Seriously, breathe, and stop wanting to hate this movie before you even give it a chance. This film does not have the hyper-violence of the original, nor the comedic quotability of the Verheoven classic. It won’t replace the 1989 film, and GUESS WHAT: It doesn’t try to. It’s a new interpretation of the character that is faithful to the essence of what the original concept of the character was.

This “reboot” (and I really hate to label this as such) is a sophisticated take on the story of Alex Murphy. What GORE this movie lacks in it’s PG13-Rating, it more than compensates in substance over style. This is a much, much more psychological version in which emotional acting and intelligent writing takes priority over realistically brutal executions.

Let’s discuss what’s realistic now in a movie like Robocop (2014) and it’s original counterpart. We are now a society that holds our police force completely accountable for their decisions and actions. If unnecessary force is taken, we expect those officers to be handed disciplinary action and in some cases be indefinitely suspended and/or resign from duty. Look at Facebook for instance, people freak out about a dog being shot when an officer was simply defending themselves. Whether it was excessive or not is not what’s in question, what is in question is: how would you react if that police officer wasn’t a man at all, but instead a robot? These are questions the movie asks of the viewer, and not directly, but through subtext. So to answer what I’ve seen many people wonder on various sites’ comment/message boards, there is more subtext in this movie (both socio-political and ethical) than in the original. Even the lack of violence itself serves as commentary. This movie, in that regard, is very realistic.

This movie has something for new and old fans. I (impersonally) guarantee that you get the old Robocop you loved and a new Robocop that can fully be embraced. Some people want an R-rated Robocop film, but R-rated action films are not what people flock to see anymore. Is it more important to see a single film that’s violent for no reason, or a sequel to an intelligent action/thriller that doesn’t highlight excessive violence but what it takes to use restraint?

I, for one, can’t recommend this movie enough to people. I feel confident in verifying that, personally, I think this is a SUPERIOR movie, when you take into account the score, cinematography, action choreography, editing, costuming, makeup, acting, directing and writing.

I can say is that Kinnaman as Murphy provides much more depth and charisma than Weller did with his TJ Lazer impersonation, Samuel L Jackson is the lovable ******* he usually plays SO well, Gary Oldman is… best left unsaid at this point, Keaton makes us wonder why he isn’t in more movies, and Cornish makes us feel for the Murphy family. Have faith, this is one “reboot” done right."

FIRST REACTION TO THE ROBOCOP REBOOT/SPOILER FREE from CBM:

The "needless violence", "superior to the original" and "Weller's T.J. Lazer impression" comments were kind of unnecessary. I would like to hear a more unbiased opinion about this film from the perspective of someone who loved the original.

Regardless, nice to hear that this movie isn't just a cash grab but an excellent film in its own right with excellent directing, writing, acting, etc. that it does its own thing, by exploring other issues and themes, and honors the original without being a by-the-numbers, scene-for-scene, wholesale remake.

It sounds fantastic to me, everything I had hope for but I agree the somewhat lite bashing of the original is unnecessary.

I hate to be the one to say it, but this really sounds like a plant.
