RoboCop Reboot - Part 5

LOL.

Don't even bother comparing The Avengers to this remake, they're two different things. I loved that film because the main cast was excellent and their characters were extremely well-rounded. Who the hell is likeable in this movie? Alex Murphy? So far, there's no indication that there's going to be anything compelling having to do with his character. He has a wife and a kid, wow, so I guess we should like him right away then? Sorry, but having a wife and a kid stick around this time doesn't make the character any more likeable or relatable.

Plus wouldn't the family be getting paid since OCP's using their husband/father as a science project? Why should I care about how they feel about Murphy being Robocop? It made more sense in the original, as it was implied that they were paid-off by OCP and they abandoned him which made you sympathise with his character way more. In this, there seems to be no sense of pathos or humour anywhere (sure, it tried in that clip, but failed, or at least IMO). In The Avengers trailers, you could see both the humour and pathos at play with the Banner, Stark and Rogers' characters especially, and it was all brought on thanks to Loki (who causes all of the mischief between them, hence why he's the God of Mischief).

Next time you pick a film to compare, try picking one that's a little more generic, also one that's not the highest grossing superhero/comic-book film of all-time. These two films don't compare in any way whatsoever, and The Avengers is a far better film than you give it credit for. You hating on The Avengers makes me question your anticipation-level for this film, seeing as how you were probably anticipating The Avengers as well, or just as much as everyone else was, you'll probably be saying the same negative stuff about this reboot in about a half a years time as well (that it has a generic story and weak villains).

LOL I love it. That got a rise out of you. Dude if there's a possibility that you could like robocop 3 over 2 then I'm sure you will dig the remake. Stop being so damn critical lol. Seriously. Keep your expectations low but stop judging the film based on clips n stuff. You have a gut feeling that it will suck, well guess what, a lot of us have gut feelings it will be a surprise and be a great film. So no reason to keep telling us over and over how you think SLJ is lame lol. He's pretty lame all around to me, especially as nick fury. It's friggin SLJ in an eyepatch.... This is friggin SLJ in a wig. It's apart of the damn satire.

And the black suit is also apart of the satire of the film as I posted earlier in the thread, I should probably quote myself so no one misses it, but there will be another suit after the black one goes the rounds. Jose is quoted saying there is an unseen suit after the black that he doesn't want to spoil, and to "just watch the movie and find out" as I suggest everyone do.

Yeah I agree finally after that first lackluster sorry excuse for a transfer they tried to pass off a few years ago.

For sure. It's the unrated version as well, so the ED-209 boardroom shooting and Murphy's death may be even more brutal than you originally remembered. :woot:
It literally is only a few extra seconds of brutality but it really makes the scene more badass.

This entire argument is weak, because you a) can't compare a film you've seen to a trailer for an unreleased film and b) you can't compare trailer scenes of characters you grew familiar with over several years to a trailer for (again) and unreleased film.

It really is one of the better transfers I've seen in a LONG time of a film from the 70's-80's era of filmmaking.

Indeed, it absolutely floored me. I havnt sat down to watch it in full yet, but the menu alone is stunning. I've jumped to a few scenes and I was blown away.

I am glad that even if the remake is complete **** at least the original got the transfer and treatment it deserved.

Indeed, the reboot is a good thing no matter the outcome, I've been saying this since the beginning. It's brining us a truck ton of merch from the original flick! robo is back in the spotlight, and there's a decent chance the reboot could be good.

Yeah. Keaton and Haley so far seem to be the only two human villains that Robocop will face.

There are other "street" villians too

Love the new IMAX poster, has a very unique, 80's feel to it.

Robo's gun also looks more like the original in this poster.

Darn. I was hoping Bob Morton would make a cameo. :woot:

Your right Dyson my bad haha. There's still a chance he's in there, I read awhile back that he was apart of filming, but now I can't find it lol.

Edit: damn, He was listed as Vallon on Imdb in October and last I checked. It was literally just recently updated this month(reported just yesterday on robo-archive anyway) lol. guess that was a falsity. Ahh the internet lol.

Yes by far the best poster released yet. I will try and get that one framed and up on the wall if I love the movie!

yea, that poster is cool. got that 80s feel.
sorta encapsulate what this movie's about. it's its own thing yet pays homage to the original at the same time.

I wasn't going to but I think I'm going to make the hour and a half drive to hit up the closest IMAX for this.

Hmmm what kind of IMAX is it? I do personally like the AMC lieax experience, but nothing beats a true screen. If it is a real IMAX I'd probably make the drive, plus they are usually cheaper tickets lol. Amc really rips ya off. Tickets here are friggin 17 bucks for AMC IMAX! I have two 7.50 vouchers to see this with my girlfriend, and it will still cost me around 18 bucks for tickets lol.

gotta check em out when i'm off work later.
really want to see michael k williams in this too. omar comin!

I've never been to a real Imax. Maybe I'll give this one a whirl.

The dancing/waking up clip is excellent. So is the new red IMAX poster.

Holy effin balls the Private Property clip is amazing. Great, great action

Even if the movie is bad I think I'm gonna enjoy Micheal Keaton and Gary Oldman going by that clip.

I could barely tell what was going on in that clip. He crashes his motorcycle through the building and somehow it just goes flying towards one of the many ED-209s. I don't know how I feel about this film so far from these clips. I liked the one where he discovers he's Robocop, but the rest of these clips have done nothing for me. From what I've gathered so far, this is basically just an exact remake of the original except Michael Keaton's playing Dick Jones and Jackie Earle Haley's playing Clarence (except they change the names around). Is it safe to assume that Haley's character causes Murphy's car to explode? After all, there is a TV spot online where Haley and Keaton are talking villainously about "what's more popular than a hero", and Haley simply says: "dead hero". I hope there's more to this plot than just having Keaton be the villain who wants... world domination? I don't know, I'm getting a bad vibe that this film will be exactly like the Total Recall remake (lots of style, and no substance).

You either need to see it on a normal sized screen or take off the rose tinted glasses because that scene is ridiculously easy to see. Very awesomely choreographed.

yea its quite bad-ass, u see robocop using strategy to take out the ed-209s too.

Where's the Private Property clip?

Oh and that clip with Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton was excellent. Great performances from the both of them it seems.

Just saw the Private Property clip. Looks pretty sweet.

Some of the CGI is still a bit shakey but the action looks pretty awesome nonetheless. Reminds me of Raiden from Metal Gear Rising Revengenace.

I'm not sure if it was way earlier in this thread, but there were actually three or four people that loved the second one. My mind was blown.

I hate RoboCop 2 for two reasons. One reason is because it completely negates the original film. It's like everyone thought "Oh, the whole ghost in the machine aspect? Y'know, Murphy regained his humanity in the last film? Okay, let's just forget that even happened." And two, I hate that when that stupid, punk ass kid is dying, they dared to give him a sympathetic death. That part infuriates me.

Another part that kind irks me a little is that the OCP chairman is suddenly evil. However, the case can be made that he wasn't necessarily "good" in the first film either.
