To be honest with you, I am not sure why Vallon was a bad guy. I lost track of it. Was he a drug dealer? Mafia? Street gang leader? What exactly was he?

I would have been more interested if Vallon may have been part of a gang, in true reference to the 80's.

I like the thought that the movie "Colors" used that gangs are like a force of nature, always present simply fighting over territory. I would have liked the gang to be portrayed more like the gangs in movies like "Colors" rather than like the "gang" from the original RoboCop. They don't need to have such a direct connection to OCP or anything like that.

Vallon was an illegal weapons dealer.

And Vallon wasn't really the big bad he was just the front man. The villain everyone expects to see but the police boss was the real mastermind behind the operation. It was her weapons her men protected it. It was her decision to take out Murphy, she was the one who made it known Alex was working out of his parameters.

No, the police chief wasn't the mastermind of anything. She was just corrupt. She sold weapons illegally, curtailed the investigations and gave up Alex's personal info to Vallon who was the head of that enterprise.

Within the context of the story she is the big bad mastermind. She was Alex's shadow, her actions forced him to react. She fits that archetype better than anyone else in this film. Granted Vallon looked the part but as I mentioned Vallon sold guns that was suppose to be in police custody, he had to be talked into the car bomb, and when business slowed down it wasn't Vallon who tried to squeeze the cops into doing something.

so what happens to the black suit and why does he go back to the silver suit in the end?

Criminal mastermind
1)The mastermind or kingpin of the criminal operations. If taken out of the loop the operation will fail.

He certainly was not very interesting, thats for sure.

yup, he wasn't very interesting. but i don't think he needed to be that interesting.
The problem was he sort of disappeared from the middle of the movie then showed up later. If they showed one more scene of him scheming or colluding with the corrupt cops in the middle, then it might've been better. Emphasize his threat more.

We already know he's dangerous - he blew up a cop and bought out the police force, but the audience just needs to be reminded of that.

Essentially, the pace of the film needed some polishing and the action needed to be more balls to the wall, then it would've been a very good remake. But that's just my opinion.

Vallon's organization would not fail if one aspect of it (the police chief) was removed. So even going off of your flawed logic, Vallon is the mastermind. It's his organization. Again, end of

Robocop 2014 concept art by Alliance Studio. Now I know why Robo looked so much like a video game character.

Wow. Pretty much all of these designs are better than the black armor in the film.

I just really didn't like the chestplate area of the armor they went with. I just looked... odd to me. the rest of it was okay though.

those look like what we pretty much got in the movie, just a few changes in the chestplate area, but its not radically different.

i thought all the suits and tech used in the movie was frickin' sweet. i wish we saw more of ed-209 now though!

Yeah, if there was one complaint I had (from an effects standpoint anyway) it's that we didn't get more ED-209s. The two sequences that featured them were really cool but I think we should have had at least one more.

Well, now that the release date has come and gone, does anybody have a copy of that old leaked script? I'd like to read through it, see some of the ideas they played with.

A PM would be appreciated since I may not see your reply here.

I feel sorry for some of y'all in here hoping for a sequel. We won't be getting one anytime soon. Sony/MGM will try to pimp something else out first.

don't feel sorry for us, feel sorry for MGM for f##kin things up!

MGM's recent track record deserves little to no sympathy.

yea, if anything, i would sympathize with the cast and crew who worked hard on this.

It's obvious that even if the studio did their best to mess this up, the creative team behind it really wanted to make something people would enjoy.

I do hope that they get exposed to all the positive thoughts I'm seeing online (and from friends), since the reviews and the cash flow arent very encouraging.

Everyone I know enjoyed it, including me. We appreciate their hard work. If I had the chance I'd love to tell them so, since they're probably concerned with all the doom and gloom right about now.

yea i feel the same way. i think the movie didn't reach it's full potential. Whether that was due to studio interference, bad luck, or even when you have a good director and cast, it just doesn't turn out as good as you want sometimes. But you can tell they worked really hard on this, and I still think it was a very valiant effort.

Glad to see the movie move up to 2nd place at the BO on Monday, seems WOM is having SOME effect at least.

The Lego Movie is just a monster though.

I do agree with some that the movie could have used a better villain, Vallon just didnt come across as a threat, especially to Robocop. It would have been nice to have at one more scene of him doing something dastardly so we could really hate him.

Vallon was a much bigger villain in the leaked first draft. In the orginal draft, Vallon and his thugs knock Murphy out cold and then blow away pieces of his body with guns. There was also a cool scene where Vallon boards a public bus, shoots the driver and takes it hostage to lore RoboCop into a fight. I think if they had made Vallon a bit of a bigger baddie, it would have worked greatly to the film's credit. That said, if we get a sequel, I hope we get a Clarence Boddicker type villain, and a film that is a little harder hitting. If shows like Hannibal, CSI and The Walking Dead can get away with the gore and violence that is shown, surely we can get a bit of a much violent sequel to a very good first film.

You have a link, because what you just said really reinforces the opinion I have on this movie in that the cast and crew wanted to make a really good movie that was gritty but the studio just kept shutting them down.
