So no bibles in court?

Take the word "God" out of every justice house and public school?

These are extreme methods to prevent theocracy and could be ultimately counter-productive.

Yes no bibles in court! As an atheist I would NEVER aknowledge a court decision if the court starts to claim its authority on the bible. I hope Jews, Muslims and Buddhists think the same. A court that uses the bible doesn't speak for me and holds no moral authority over me.

Same goes for a school, a school that refers to god is a school where I wouldn't stay for one minute.

Yes. Money is dirty. Don't put God on it... especially when the president is an ignorant idiot who doesn't care about God's laws and commandments :)

do christians like this realize that this kind of rhetoric is alienating not only our non-christian citizens, but the rest of the non-christian world? who cares if we were founded as a christian nation or not? freedom of religion is pretty self-explanatory, to me anyway.
Well, Christ's message alienated people who thought themselves to be already good enough, or were simply too stubborn to listen. Granted, people who follow Christ shouldn't turn it into abuse. However, if it comes down to a so-called "atheist" being offended, or being punished for eternity because they rejected the one Savior who could rescue them...I'd rather deal with temporary offense. We were granted freedom of religion in this country, but not a freedom from religion. Believe it or not, there is a real difference.

It's all meaningless bulls*** anyway.

The government says we're not founded on Christianity, 90% of the citizens think we are, they print money that says "In God We Trust.", and then give it to a guy who uses it to buy a crucifix to place in a mason jar full of urine.

******ed world
******ed people
Silly, absurd, Dr. Seuss Bologna-Land.

Why are some self-proclaimed aethist here seem so bitter and angry and miserable and very frustrated? :csad:

i think you misunderstood my point. i'm not saying we should do away with religion, though i wouldn't mind that. i'm saying why is it so important to american christians which religion we were founded on? is it arrogance? why fight so fervently to prove that america was founded as a christian nation? can't you just sit back and let people choose what they want without having to slap the christian label on america? christians made a choice to worship their god, just like atheists made a choice that they don't believe any deities. regardless of what christian doctrine tells you about spreading the faith, can you understand the backlash against people trying to force their views on others and claiming they're the foundation of a country populated by people from hundreds of different creeds and faiths?

Wouldn't that be a true sign of the government becoming more fascist, like so many people on here claim it is?

This part I agree with. While a Christian should try to help others become Christians, if it starts to piss people off taking two steps back might be better, both morally and to further their own goals.

don't get me wrong, i'm not calling for a ban on all religions. sometimes i just wish the idea of religion and gods had never come to be.

^Not you. However, I can understand the frustration. I'm no aethist but I do find that both aethists and Christians alike can be very annoying. But I guess when people are passionate about what they believe in to the point of "I'm right! You're wrong!" back and forth, back and forth... it can be annoying to others, especially those who stand in the middle. Anyway... no Bible in the courtroom!

Because without God, who loved us first, there is no love. Without Christ, "atheists" are left purely to their fallen, prideful, selfish, greedy natures. They have no firm-standing moral code, and thus they say what they want, and treat people how they want, with no boundaries of (or benefits from) the ultimate love and respect.

No there isn't a difference, Freedom of religion is always also freedom from religion. As for rejection. I have had many christians who wanted to save me. Their attempts only achieved that I reject christ even deeper. I take my chances with the punishment.

Aye. At the same time, I don't think that all religions are 100% bad.

I'll become very bitter and angry and frustrated if you were talking about me, because I strongly believe there's a God. :(

So many Christians, ever since I joined the Hype, acting like just because I don't believe in the Bible, I must be an atheist. Freakin' Indians have hundreds of Gods and they don't believe in the Bible.

That is the greatest load of Bull**** I have ever heard. Thanks for showing me again why I have become an atheist. It's because of "followers" like you.

That's simply not true.

Perhaps my post on the matter was to flippant, i simply fall into that position of not wanting either side to feel they are pressured to follow any line of thinking and am not bothered which path is taken, both sides can give their view a bad name. The key is to be content in your own belief without forcing it on others IMO.

If you're not an aethist than I'm not talking about you. You DO believe in God? But you said that "God DOESN'T exist!". I guess your concept of God is the same as mine. Probably. I don't believe in the Bible either but I'm no aethist. I have my own faith... it's called Bella-ism. I see God in everything that is good. "Good" by my own definition. I just hate it when those of faith claim their religion to be the path to Heaven and that everyone who disagrees will surely go to Hell. How do they know? Because the Bible (or whatever holy book), which is written by men, tells them so?

I don't see Christ as my 'savior', sorry. However, those who know me know that I am loving and kind and respectful to others and treat people as how I want to be treated. My moral codes come from many sources, not just the Bible.

I'm with you there, mate.

Sorry not good enough. :csad:

Enjoy Hell with the rest of the loving, kind and respectful people. :o

Swearing on the bible may not sway every agnostic fence-sitter from lying but it sways enough of them to justify keeping the tradition of swearing on the holy bible.

Alot of non-church goers would lose sleep if they lied with their hand on the bible.
