The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume - Part 2

All of this complaining by people who haven't seen a completed film... You all sadden me.

I can dig it. I wasn't sure about it when we got that first pic of the (unmasked) Garfield, but I think the suit works pretty well as a whole. I still prefer the suits from the Raimi films more, but no matter. I liked the Batman 89 suit better than either of the suits in the Nolan Batman films, but the movie wasn't half as good. A costume is just a costume, after all. As long as it doesn't look f**king stupid with nipples or a CGI necktie, it's cool.

I don't understand why people can't like both costumes. I also find it funny how people are bashing Raimi's costume when, whether you like the new suit or not, Raimi's will always be more faithful. Don't get me wrong, The new suit looks really good, but Raimi's will always be the best, IMO.

This isn't one of those cases, but faithful doesn't always mean best. I think Superman's costume (sans Returns) looks like trash.

And Batman's comic costume could be terrible.

I don't have to see a completed film to recognize a self indulgent and badly executed costume design. The film maybe awesome, I liked 500 days of Summer. I just don't like the costume.

riiiggghhhht.....

Already said I was exaggerating, as I concede that it does look good sometimes (as in your example), but here's an example of waxiness:

And here's an example of it looking like a stuffed doll:

:oldrazz:

I mean, we can juggle this all day. Cherry-picking shots where it looks like cloth or where it looks like wax.

Fact of the matter is, I was being sarcastic to make a point about how over the top the response to the new suit is. It will end up looking fine in the film, just like Raimi's did (usually) despite all the concerning examples.

Yeah, Raimi's was perfect, there's no doubt. But I guess you can't use the same design or else people might not grasp that it's a reboot. Regardless, they both look cool.

People who are complaining should be happy that this thing isn't likely to turn out like that atrocious Spider-Man musical. I haven't seen it, but it sounds like Broadway's version of anthrax.

I do like both costumes if you're referring to my post. I was being radical like the other person was to make a point.

Hence the 'I can exaggerate too.'

well, Spider-Man's costume was done perfectly in Raimi's films, socool. Batman could have been as well, but nobody really attempted it I guess.

overall though, I really like the new suit. looks SOOO much better than the set pictures and I'm just hoping for a great film.

Agreed! good god, that thing looks terrible. I have 0 interst in it.

ya know, ive been sayin for a while now, that this new suit FEELS more like spider man to me. the colors, the lankiness, the poses. i wonder how much of this is reliant on your artist preference...

im a bagely/romita jr guy. thats what feels right to me. ditko guys probably like raimi's more.

and i was never a fan of the webcage tho...:word:

It surprises me that between this and, say, the costume in The Dark Knight, this is the one you don't like.

Those are stripes. not a discernable web graphic pattern.
No, it's definitely a discernible web pattern. Don't get me wrong, I understand if you don't like it--that's just not an accurate statement.

where do you guys come up with this stuff? of all the things to worry about in a a spider man movie, you think theyre gonna turn him into the effin bionic commando? and thats based on the suit?

good god man. there are lots of looney theories (on both sides) of this suit issue.

Just my own personal opinion based on a few choice changes on the suit! comic adaptions have strayed off the source material plenty of times. I just don't think he is going to have any spider powers, I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong and and will book myself straight into the "looney" ward should it just be harmless changes and he has the normal powers! :woot: I'm not setting out to irritate anyone!

The Dark Knight costume has symmetry and and more importantly has been set up by a precednt that has existed for the movie costumes since 1989.

I respectfully dissagree with the term "Graphic" as in an internationally established, instantly recognizable visual element .

Actually, the costume is based on the costume from the comics, but from a more specific comic book series; Spider-Man: With Great Power...:
WithGreatPower2014.jpg

As you can see, that version (which in the comic is one of the phases before Peter gets the final version) is pretty close to the ASM film version. I don't know if there is more versions coming from the film because that hasn't been considered a fact from the reboot, but it does show that its still based on the comic, just a more specific comic.

Regardless, I like the costume. I still like the original trilogy version, but this one feels different but familiar that stills says "Spider-Man" which is something we can expect from all comic book costumes translated into film. At this time, we're wondering the same thing for Superman with the reboot for that character. Will it be ripped from the source material, or be taken the different but familiar route that stills says "Superman" but on its own.

But I want to ask; the new image and the set pictures have showed that the mirror eyes are gone in this version of the suit, but the set images that showed the lenses in still give glimpses of Peter's/Andrew's eyes. Does that mean this version will show his actual eyes under the lenses? Or is that just the images taken or something they'll fix in post?

You sir, are a *****e bag.

Don't project, it's bad for your self esteem.
It'll be okay, there are plenty of people who will go "Me Too" along with you. I'm not a lemming. I call it like i see it.

The powers will not be in the suit. That's too stupid a change, even for John Peters.

I think it's just for a specific scene. They actually had experimented with those types of lenses in the first Spider-Man film.

Wow. The suit looks good in the dark. :p

Seriously, it's amazing what Hollywood can do to hide how bad something looks.

The Dark Knight costume has symmetry
Okay, I'll bite: how is the Spider-Man costume lacking symmetry?

and more importantly has been set up by a precednt that has existed for the movie costumes since 1989.
I don't want to get into a Dark Knight argument, so let's just say I don't entirely agree with this sentiment and leave it at that for now.

I respectfully dissagree with the term "Graphic" as in an internationally established, instantly recognizable visual element .
Well, I certainly agree that it's not a universally established and internationally recognizable web pattern--that's not really what a "graphic" implies to me, so that's why I didn't fully understand your meaning in your original post.

That being the case, I think this is permissible because the pattern doesn't exist in a void; as part of the whole design on the character it's a part of, there's no chance anyone would mistake it for anything but webs. Though, whether you like it or think it looks good is another concern entirely.

There's certainly an argument that it subtracts from Spider-Man's iconography. Personally, it doesn't bother me much, but that's me.I like that they got creative with the application of the pattern, as well--the way it changes on his stomach or on parts of his boots or gloves. Not that it's necessarily better than the classic design, but sometimes change is good.
