Splinter Cell: Blacklist

I think one of the things that hurt Connor as a character was the fact that he didn't really seem to be an assassin, or really someone who believed in the cause. I think he had a great story that was compelling. I'd probably do a few things differently with that, but by the end, I definitely wanted to see more of him.

Agree 100%

Personally, I'm disappointed that Sam Fisher is being used for Blacklist. Now hold on! Don't attack me just yet, hear me out!

Sam has had a complete story arc that we've all played through. Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, Double Agent, and finally Conviction.

He saved the world, lost his daughter, found his daughter, looked as though he was heading his way to retirement and wha bam, done.

I felt that Sam had completed his journey as a character, so having Ubi bring Sam back AGAIN for Blacklist was more than disappointing for me. I know we all love Sam, but personally I felt that we needed a new protagonist to pick up the mantle. Clearly by not using Ironside, they're probably doing prequel to the original Splinter Cell with blacklist.

But really, it should have been a new dude.

You know what? I completely agree with you.

I'll even go on to add that, in Chaos Theory in one of the last missions, they told Sam to find some other Splinter Cells and interrogate them, which if I didn't know better, I would have said they were hinting at a new character for a future game. But all throughout that game, they mad so many old jokes that made it seem like Sam was about to retire.

My only issue would be that, as a PS3 owner, I never played Conviction and I don't know what happened with that story, so I would feel lost with a new character, not knowing how Sam's story ended. But with that said, I think they should have went the reboot route. I'd say do a prequel, but just looking at the tech Sam is using in the trailer, this is clearly the future, which would make it look weird that the other games were set in the future 10 years ago.

It could be a case of Star Wars itis. Basically in the Star Wars battlefront games, if you played the present timeline of Empire vs. Rebels. Dark Troopers had jet packs that only fired in bursts.

But if you played Republic vs. Trade Federation, republic troopers have jetpacks that can be used for hovering and flying.

Never made any damn sense.

I said the same thing after Chaos Theory, that i wouldn't of been opposed to a new protagonist coming into the series. However after the events of Conviction, i knew this was the direction they would go. I claimed that something big would happen forcing Sam to come back in but under conditions that he had full control and lo and behold thats what we are getting.

it's as I said

To me what they should have done with sam is what they did with the character/ former director of Rainbow six Clark which was in the clear and present danger movie. if your the head of the organization and your aging you start become more of the man behind the scenes. . Now that being said when Rainbow six's director Clark who was played by Willem Dafoe in The "clear and present danger" movies first formed the organization of Rainbow Six, the director was still active in the field with his operatives and then he gradually became the man that over saw their missions from their HQ til he retired and had his son in law Ding take over. (who was also in that movie too.) I think this is what they have in mind for Sam since this is his first time being of the new Echelon Director. he's starting out an new organization and wants to do stuff his way cause he's an agent that's used to being in the field. but he'll gradually head to where he's supposed to after he's trains some people he trusts. this may be what they were trying to do but some it didn't work out to have iron side this do for one reason or the other mo cap wise. something fell through and it just didn't happen. most likely the thing with the mo-cap thin you mentioned . Sam can't be doing this forever. If it happened with John Clark it'll happen with Sam. eventually.

if the first Rainbow six director John Clark was allowed to be in the field when he first started that organization initially then Sam is too until he feels he has enough people that he feels are as good as him to replace him since this is his Echelon. their allowed to both do that they live in the same universe after all. and it's their way of making a steady transition of leaving the field work to others wild the are the heads/ big bosses and will eventually retire.

The Collector's Edition have been revealed
Flying R/C Plane Highlights Splinter Cell Blacklist Collector's Edition
Our expectations for the Blacklist CE are, ahem, sky high.

Splinter Cell Blacklist publisher Ubisoft has revealed the Collector's Edition for the upcoming stealth game. The Paladin Multi-Mission Aircraft Edition for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be priced at $169.99 and be available on August 20. The box will include a copy of the game, a copy of the 88-page Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel, a poster, the "Billionaire's Yacht" co-op map, the Upper Echelon Pack containing the "Dead Coast" co-op map as well as the Gold Sonar Goggles and Upper Echelon Suit in-game items, and a radio-controlled version of the Paladin airplane that hero Sam Fisher and his Fourth Echelon team use as their aerial base of operations. The Paladin is, according to Ubisoft, a "custom three-channel, dual-motor plane modeled after the in-game mobile headquarters." Yes, it actually flies.

Also, the folks over at Ubisoft have provided us with an autographed Collector's Edition of Splinter Cell Blacklist and a copy of the Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel to give away to one of our lucky readers. For your chance to win just hop over to Twitter and tell us your favorite Splinter Cell game. Be sure to include @IGN and #SplinterCell. Make sure you're following us because we'll pick a winner and Direct Message them at the end of the day.

Anyone who said it won't be steathy can suck it. That trailer was phenomenal

Good lord you arent kidding. This is looking incredible.
Yeah, from the sounds of it it seems to be a mix of Chaos Theory and Conviction, and honestly, after re-playing the trilogy, I wouldn't mind a faster paced game that still allows for slow stealth.

Also, here's a new Hands On video from IGN. It's mostly stuff we've already seen, but there are some nice tidbits of how there's side quests and collectibles, which is always a plus in any game.

hmm i already saw that video. from what they said you'll be rewarded for playing it the classic way with stealth. so that should make alot of people that were disappointed happy. but I did say something like that would happen when people were having worry's and then ubisoft started to show the stealth parts later on.happy to see it was said there should be no issues at all now.

Hah that looks awesome. Iv got this little remote controlled helicopter that i can control with my phone but this thing looks even more legit. Deff considering getting the CE.

hmm it would be nice if you can control the paladin with ypur cell too. there was a video for the CE that was on GI a week a go which they only just put uo on the Ubisoft youtube page.

But from what was shown in that trailer you will see it in the game so there no need for me to put it up which why I didn't bother with it the first time around. Hmmm sam's new partner and the man he's training, I'm wondering if he'll be Sam's Ding as ding was to John Clark in the Rainbow six games before he took over Rain bow. that would be interesting.

Rumor: Splinter Cell Blacklist Wii U gets its cover blown by employee resume

It seems that Ubisoft is preparing a Splinter Cell: Blacklist port for Wii U. So said the resume of level designer Pascal Allancon, who may have prematurely outed the Wii U version in his LinkedIn profile. The profile has since been edited, but we've embedded an image of the original (via GoNintendo) for posterity's sake.

The only platforms confirmed for Splinter Cell: Blacklist so far are Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, all being prepped for the game's launch in the US on August 20. We've reached out to Ubisoft for comment – let's just hope they don't send their response back by plane, because that would take forever.

ok now that I'm done with the marvel heroes MMo for the night

time to put this up before I turn in.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist's EMEA special editions include watches, figurines, no planes

Right off the bat, we'll tell you that none of the Splinter Cell: Blacklist limited editions announced for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa come with a plane. What you lose in radio-controlled miniature vehicles, you gain in choice, as there are four different special editions.

The 5th Freedom Edition is exclusive to GAME in the UK and GameStop in Ireland, and comes with a Sam Fisher figurine, Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel, two co-op maps, and some in-game gear, all in a steelbook case (well, except for the in-game items that exist only in a digital state).

The 5th Freedom Silver Edition, exclusive to Uplay, is like the other 5th Freedom, but with a fancier steelbook and a silver Sam Fisher.

The Ultimatum Edition comes with a digital watch, a shorter selection of Splinter Cell Echoes, and a bit less unlockable gear, along with a really silly name. Finally, the Upper Echelon Day 1 Edition comes with a bunch of digital stuff: the maps, some gold goggles, the "legendary Upper Echelon Suit," and more. It's exclusive to GAME in the UK and Xtravision in Ireland.Splinter Cell: Blacklist (Collector's Editions - UK)

I kinda wish they'd offer something in between. If they'd take away the Paladin, then I go with the CE. But man, I have no space whatsoever to put that thing. Much less fly it. Those editions there are more what I'd be in for.

The game's looking interesting for sure. If they can do what MGS4 did, and make it a stealth optional game where I could ghost it or kill everything in sight if I wish...then I'll have little to complain about because it would be a win-win for everyone, I think. That Perfectionist difficulty preview looks exactly like what I want to see. Hearing about there being higher payouts for non-lethal and non-encounters sounds perfect too.

If it winds up like how they're pitching it, it could really be amazing.

Splinter Cell Blacklist - Night Vision Goggles [NORTH AMERICA]

source:Ubisoft's youTube

I'm happy to see the NVG come back. I actually liked the Sonar goggles, it was very Batman, but good to see the NVG back. And they did say that on Perfectionist difficulty, you could only use NVG and not Sonar, right?

Also, I forgot to mention last time. Moving bodies again! Awesome.

it's a must in all stealth games man You just can't be stealthy with out it.

Here's a good look at the different types of play-styles in the game.

I think those of us who were concerned about it leaning more towards action or stealth have nothing to worry about.
