The Dark Knight Rises TDKR Oscar Chances? - Part 1

Does anyone else feel like having those action categories is really condescending and cynical? They should just drop it and stop trying to pander to the masses. Do they think people are too stupid to see through the charade?
Pretty much every Awards.

SAG Nomination:

Best Stunt Ensemble In A Motion Picture
"The Amazing Spider-Man"
"The Bourne Legacy"
"The Dark Knight Rises"
"Les Miserables"
"Skyfall"

In semi-OT news, some TDKR folks got nods for their other work:

Marion - Best Actress for Rust & Bone
Anne - Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables

Les Miserables (Anne) & Lincoln (JGL) also got a nod for Best Ensemble.

I was pretty surprised Zimmer was left out of score.

At the SAG awards? They only hand out acting awards. :)

Or just in general with all the nominations coming in from different groups?

Sorry should have been clearer :D I was talking about these - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a444679/critics-choice-movie-awards-the-nominees-in-full.html

and the fact Skyfall got a cinematography nom over Pfister... I mean Skyfall looked good but Pfister was on thee top of his game here.

Ah gotcha.

Well, at least he got a Grammy nod. :D

It looks like there is some credence to thinking that The Dark Knight Rises can nab a Best Picture nod.

It's picking up steam. If it can get a Producer's Guild or Director's Guild nod, then it will really have a shot.

The Golden Globes are a bit of a challenge with the smaller field.

But if it keeps making the acclaimed "best of" lists and can grab a nod from one of the respected guilds, we might be in business.

Whether it gets the award recognition or not, it's certainly my top film this year :D

No Globes love... as expected.

What a boring ceremony. I'm only rooting for Anne Hathaway, everything else I don't care about.

No Globes definitely means no Oscars. Not that I can say it's surprising. In some ways it's even harder because it'd have to compete in the Drama section which is where most of the heavy hitters are (Lincoln, Argo, Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty) while the comedy section has 3 empty spots for better or worse beyond Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook.

Still, if the Globes won't recognize it, the Academy certainly won't. It is a shame, because I do think it is one of the 10 best movies of the year--though not 5--and should be recognized in some way. Oh well.

P.S. I do not mind the movie nominations but the TV nominations this year ARE TERRIBLE. No nomination for Game of Thrones but THE NEWSROOM gets nominated for Best Drama? I like Sorkin and watch that show, but that is a joke. So is The Big Bang Theory and Girls being nominated for Best Comedy Series when there are shows like Louis CK, Community and Archer on television.

Movies are fine, but the TV choices are a disgrace.

I liked The dark Knight rises, but they were to many gaping plot holes and nobody in that movie gave a performance that went beyond the movie like Heath ledger did 4 years ago.

I second that. It's a disgrace that GoT was not nominated.

In your opinion, voters chose newroom over GOT cause newsroom deals with current and actual events of the past few years. GOT is a great show, but its still a show set in a fantasy world.

I think this gives good insight as to TDKR oscar chances. According to these experts, TDKR looks like it has an outside chance of making the top 10, competing with Skyfall to be the action blockbuster to sneak its way into the nominees. Personally, it looks like the field is too deep this year for TDKR to get a best picture nom. Looks like Deakins is getting more love over Pfister this time as well.

I'd be very bummed if Skyfall makes it over TDKR. Both great, but Skyfall is nowhere near as layered. Also, while the cinematography is beautiful in Skyfall, it is style over substance way too often compared to Pfister's calculated storytelling approach.

No Globes definitely means no Oscars.

Oh God. Does that mean The Master will be snubbed for the Oscars as well? :csad:

Because TDK didn't have any gaping plot holes, lol. I always find it humorous that no one talks about TDK just because of Ledger's awesome performance as Joker.

Like I said, Ledgers performance rose himself and the movie up another level. No character in TDKR did that.

I think The Master still has a good shot at an Oscar nomination with 10 slots. It is not traditional Academy affair, but it is still visually stunning, brilliantly acted and high-brow enough that Academy voters may feel obliged to recognize it.

TDKR is a summer blockbuster, so it is at an automatic disadvantage with awards season voters. The Globes are notorious for being more likely to pander to audiences and celebrities than other awards shows, so by snubbing TDKR of a single nomination is quite an indicator that they don't believe it has what it takes to be nominated for anything. Granted, there are only 5 slots for where TDKR could be nominated for a Best Picture award at the Globes and there will be 10 at the Oscars, but I just don't see it.

If it happens, I will be happily surprised.
