The Dark Knight Rises TDKR SPOILERS (read at your own risk) - Part 2

Just so everyone knows, when spoilers really started coming out, I was pretty critical of everyone for reading them. That was mostly because the spoilers were (and still are) so incomplete and did not properly express what happened in any way. Just saying something like
Blake finds the cave, Bruce and Selina in a cafe
hardly makes any sense.

I was honestly getting so frustrated reading everyone's reactions because literally everyone was missing the POINT of it all! So I hope the lengthy thing I just wrote up with my thoughts on the ending explains things a little more properly and thoroughly. I've had a lot of time to digest the ending and really think things over and I still am head over heels in love with it all.

And I'm sorry if I came off as a dick to anyone. I tried to keep things calm, build anticipation, and reassure some doubters without explicitly explaining everything for you. Obviously, that time has passed.

Oh, well that's still a kind of HollyR-role, even if it's a small one, personally she's one of my favorite characters from the whole Catwoman mythology
Thanks so much, TheShape :woot:

Word, I never realized she had such a large following until 2 weeks ago. Literally 50 people asked me about Holly! Sorry she didn't make it into the film for you.

Yeah, man.
The themes run so deep through the whole series. The fun comes in figuring out all the places they come into place. In TDK, Bruce tried to find a 'hero with a face', a good guys who was incorruptible and who could fight crime without a mask. Clearly, Harvey showed than ordinary citizens ARE corruptible, and that to truly make a different, you need to be 'extraordinary'. Bruce was an extraordinary person who did the impossible several times, and now, it seems Blake is on his own path to becoming something "more" than just a man.

It's a very interesting take on the Robin mythos, similar to how unique and special their take on Harvey was, it almost seems to me to be a diservice to regard it as a cliffhanger or a loose end, it feels like one of those "open, yet definitive" endings, similar to the end of the Matrix (which should have remained the end IMO) where Neo becomes the one, and goes on to free more people in his ongoing fight against the Matrix where you just assume he goes on to win the war.

Point is, as well as it being some thematic indicator that Bruce finally inspired the people of gotham the way he meant to, it could also show that Bruce has left a legacy and has started something that will eventually be passed down generations (like the Phantom) in order to continue to better the city and maybe the world.

I'm just going by your spoiler, but if it plays out the way I'm picturing it, I could really really love this.

A question for you Shape

how was the final shot? if it's blake finding the batsuit, is it as iconic and well executed as the brilliant "batman flying toward the screen" and "batpod riding off into the light" I just can't seem to imagine a shot regarding blake and the batcave that could possibly serve as an iconic epitaph to the series

I think a lot of people were just upset that Batman survived. For some reason people were angry that the movie had a happy ending. I personally am very glad that Batman got to end up with someone and be happy. But that's just my opinion.

Exactly.
"Open, yet definitive" sounds about right

The way the shot is executed makes it somewhat iconic in its own right. No, he doesn't physically see the suit, but the shot is composed cleverly by Nolan and it was pretty powerful, IMO.

Hey Shape out of curiosity what are
Banes last words
?

Even if alot of the spoilers were out of Context, I still feel dumb for reading them. Most of the things you revealed, I wish I wouldve shown more constraint in NOT clicking the "Show Spoiler" button.

But "that wasn't—hehe—exactly what I had in mind when I said I wanted to inspire people."

Question...

I know that after Bane beats Batman the first time, he sends him to prison. But is it the SAME prison Talia escaped from, or a makeshift one in Gotham? If it's the real prison that Talia was in, how did Bruce get back to Gotham?

No body answered my question, So I'll repost it.

This one is directed at you Shape.

What about Peter Travers's opening comment: "Want to *****? Start with the reactionary politics and that franchisefeeder of an ending."?

Ah, and theShape, one review mentioned cameos in the middle of the film. Other rogues, or just the Judge? ;)

My understanding is that [BLACKOUT]it's the same prison that Talia escaped[/BLACKOUT], and Name said there was no explanation of how he got back.

Name or TheShape could you answer this?
We know Talia and Bruce are the only ones to scape that prison, we know that theres a jump in the middle that is impossible? what makes it "impossible" and and how they accomplish to climb out?

Hey Shape; sorry to add to the list of bombarded questions, but if you don't mind, could I ask a few questions as well?

1. What makes Bruce Trust Selina when coming back to Gotham considering on how she was the one to betray him to bane in the beginning?

2. Does Batman make a grand entrance during the city/street brawl between the cops and Bane's mercenaries?

3. Do the cops and people of Gotham only accept Batman after they think he's bitten the dust?

4. What's your take on Selina being inserted into the Cafe with Bruce in that scene?

5. Would you label Bane as a sympathetic villain based on his history with Talia regarding the pit?

This is a great moment and my advice is to wait and see.

Just reading that description felt badass.

I'm gonna try and get the theater clapping as soon as he says that, lol

If you're going to a midnight showing I guarantee people will be cheering at that line.

That was bizarre. I don't know why Travers gave it 3.5 stars; honestly, I'm a bit inclined to think that's as high as he would rate it because it's a comic book movie. He doesn't seem to take it very seriously, I think, since he writes that Gordon persuaded Bruce to take the blame for Harvey, when it was very clearly only Wayne's idea in TDK.

A French reviewer complained that there wasn't enough of a focus on politics in the film, so I think Travers is exaggerating. Nolan said it was inspired by Dickens, not Occupy.

Just [BLACKOUT]the Mayor, Ra's, and "the Judge."[/BLACKOUT]

No, Travers liked it. That was 3.5/4, same thing he gave TDK. Overall he seemed impressed. That intro just confused me.

I know, but when Ebert gives a 3.5/4 star review he usually notes one thing that he disliked that made it less than perfect. The only thing I noticed that Travers criticized about the film (if that's even meant as a criticism) was the politicization of it.

Maybe I'm sounding like a whiny fanboy for expecting Travers to give a 4-star review, but most other critics (Ebert especially) are looser with their 4 star ratings.

I've never asked any questions from you or the few others who have seen this movie because I figured everyone else will be bombarding you guys.

One popped in my head though.

Do they refer to the jail/pit as the Lazarus Pit?

I can see a lot of news stations picking up on the similarities to Occupy. I'm confident that Nolan will delve into the shades of grey on both sides of the uprising in TDKR. Can anyone verify that with a yes, he does or no, he doesn't?

I'm pretty sure Name said the politics in it weren't explored that much. The screenplay was written before Occupy, and Nolan decided against using Occupy footage in the film.

The "live so large and leave so little for the rest of us" line is probably the extent of it; I think they probably included that line in the trailer just to benefit from the headlines when that trailer was released.

Man eff Travers. I thought I remembered him loving TDk. Anyone in their right mind who likes good films and likes TDk for the right reasons wouldn't say some of the things he did about TDKR or give i that rating.

This type of comments are embarrassing.
