The Dark Knight Rises TDKR SPOILERS (read at your own risk) - Part 5

Something even more mindlbowing. I wrote this back in March of 2011:

Nope not me.

I'm still sticking to my outlandish hope its some sort of incarnation of Robin. Even if its just some sort of amalgamation of Grayson/Drake taking the mantle of Batman for an undisclosed period of time.

I still think what Wayne says in Begin on that plane ride back to Gotham is crucial.

"As a man, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol, I can be something... terrifying"

His little conversation with Ra's as well:

Bruce Wayne: You're vigilantes.
Henri Ducard: No, no, no. A vigilante is just a man lost in the scramble for his own gratification. He can be destroyed, or locked up. But if you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they can't stop you, then you become something else entirely.
Bruce Wayne: Which is?
Henri Ducard: A legend, Mr. Wayne.

His major mistake in this series has been that he thinks he can do this all by himself and that he personally has no limits. Thats a partial truth because Batman truly has no limits but the same doesn't go for Wayne.

The only way he can make this work is by having someone who shares his pain don the mask & cape

:awesome:

I always wondered whatever happend to the mayor until I saw this movie for the 3rd time. am I correct in thinking he was in the Skybox that exploded and died in that explosion?

Yeah, that dudes a goner...

Great movie!

A few things that jarred me from the movie experience:

  1. Gordon surviving the two story fall of the bomb truck (Reminds me of the old A-Team explosions)
  2. Batman smooching with Catwoman even though there's less than 2 minutes before the bomb will explode.
  3. The super slow awesome tracking missiles chasing the Batwing. (Go look up a youtube video on AMRAAM's or AIM9 missiles, they are extremely fast)

wasn't the original cut of this movie like 4 and a half hours? Do you guys think that the plot holes that people have been mentioning would have been filled in with the footage that was taken out? Like Bruce traveling back to Gotham and such?

So...maybe stupid question, but I still don't quite understand why Mama al Ghul and Talia were attacked in the prison in the first place and required rescuing by Bane? It looked like the people who did it AND rescued Bane later were dressed the same. :oldrazz:

I thought the prisoners hated Talia and her mother because they were prisoners of the local lord -- Talia's grandfather. The doctor accidentally left the door open.

There was no strong suggestion of rape.

Bane rescued Talia because of her innocence.

Nolan denied the first cut was 4 hours long, but I'm guessing it wasn't very short either.

1. Yeah, but if it happened like it really would, Gordon would be dead. We don't want that.
2. So? He still got it out in time.
3. They're fictional missiles.

That scene was shown from quite a distance so it makes it difficult to determine how fast Bat and missiles were moving, but they were not super slow.

Not to mention, planes outrun missiles all the time in movies.

It's just one of those accepted suspensions of disbelief.

Like how guns will automatically fire whenever they get dropped.

I think we should learn to stop using real world physics for these film now. As for the guy not ingesting the mayor's fate, can't say I blame him/her, Nolan doesn't like lingering his camera on the moments that matter. He has a fetish for going through everything as fast as can be humanly possible. He doesn't seem to like the audience actually soaking up the emotion from a frame of imagery. Better cut to the next scene as fast as I can lest these fools dare to invest emotionally.

He should have lingered on the mayor being burnt to a crisp?

The mayor's death by explosion was no quicker than Rachel's.

I love his "pedal faster" approach to filmmaking. It's engaging and ironically, it causes me to invest more emotionally because you realize there's far more emotion in the essence of the story than what even makes it to the screen.

There are a lot of things you need to work on in the whole "enjoying a movie as a movie" department.

You have a good point. I thought that all of the youtube videos showed all of the AIM-9 and AIM-120 Air-to-air missiles in slow motion.

It seems that the missile flight from the batmobile's is arguably realistic. And the Batwing has awesome vectoring. Here's a video of typical air to air missiles in the USA military:

Weve spent the last 200 years specifically DESIGNING the firing mechanisms not to go off like that, and I have personally dropped a loaded and ready to go 380, 22, and 9 beretta (CLUMSY F**K IS CLUMSY.) at least 4 times a piece in my life. It really is a suspension of disbelief.

People cry plot hole far too often. Because something isn't explicit in the film does not make it a plot hole. You can easily infer most explanations

Can someone pleas explain to me how Catwoman kidnapped the senator for so long. Did she drug him? I am completely lost here? He did she get him to come with her to the meeting at the bar? Did she report him missing without him knowing?

i got the impression she seduced him, made him believe they were in love. they said something to each other after the crazyness went down but don't remember what. also he seemed drunk to me, but this is arguably one of the things i paid the least attention to.

remember the south carolina governor who ran away to argentina without telling anyone...i think it was that kinda situation. she talked about convincing a guy at the masquerade to run away with her to ibiza (a ploy to rob him of course)

:looks at these boards:

Apparently not...

dude, people are questioning whether nolan's version of the batwing can outrun missiles...an aircraft (which is totally fictional and we don't really know anything about other than it flies and batman pilots it) out-running/maneuvering fictional missiles in an action movie. some of these things are obviously not plot-holes, some of them are obviously not even errors of perceived poor direction/photography. some of it is just ridiculous nit-picking (i really hate using that word).

not all of it is though! i've had some really good conversations with people who disagree with my perception of the movie but still liked it as well as people who just hated the movie.
