The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 1

Between the lack of director and Miller probably going to be wrapped up with Fantastic Beasts 2, The Flash may as well be the last film in the universe and then we wound up in Flashpoint.

If this film had a director, I imagine there'd be a better chance of it coming out sooner.

If Ezra's Flash goes over well in Nov., or if he's already come off well to the execs, then they will do a Flash film sooner than later. And... It's 2017. Acting like 2020 is some far distant time frame like that BC article (which has basically Crudup revealing nothing we don't already know or saying anything of note) does seems like this is just the usual clickbait.

I'm as frustrated as anyone about this not being made like NOW. The loss of directors is baffling and feeds into the frankly stupid projection of so many online fans. What ever issues you may have about the DCEU I guarantee you those aren't the reasons why this project is stalling right now and they haven't landed a director.

And for the idea that they do a FLASHPOINT... Fans... Has the misbegotten Flashpoint story on the TV show taught you all nothing? It didn't play out at all for a myriad of reasons then the way so many fans were theorizing because TV is not like the comics. So there was never going to be some Crisis style story were they suddenly merged the Supergirl world, re-conned the previous seasons of Arrow ect. ect. So too with movies.

I do think that they should look for someone that can handle spectacular SFX and deliver on the intellectual everyman appeal of Barry Allen, with a dose of romance. And they need to find that person soon. I was happy about an approach to offer Bob Zemekis but so far no more word on that. They should get cracking soon though. I hope we hear something before JL drops in the fall.

I wouldn't be surprised if WB want Lord & Miller to come back.

Either way I hope we do get Flash sequels but since we will get to see more of him in Justice League I think he will steal the show there and if he does then more or less I can see his solo film getting much more hype

Yes, please.

“Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis is the frontrunner to direct the DC Film’s “The Flash,” a person close to the situation told TheWrap.

The film, starring Ezra Miller as the titular speedy superhero, would mark a return to the world of sci-fi-infused fantasy for the “Back to the Future” director, known for blending emotional stories with top-notch visual effects.

Leading man Miller appeared in Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” last year. Fans got their first glimpse of Miller as the Flash in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” He also plays the part in the forthcoming “Justice League” and had a flash of an appearance in the summer hit “Suicide Squad.”

Warner Bros. declined to comment.

“The Flash” was originally set for a March 16, 2018, release, but Warner Bros. wants to get the film right and is not rushing the project, the insider said. Director Rick Famuyiwa left “The Flash” over creative differences last year.

A similar thing happened when Michelle MacLaren left the studio’s “Wonder Woman” over creative differences in 2015. She was eventually replaced by director Patty Jenkins. The film, opening June 2, is one of Warner Bros. biggest bets for the summer.

Joby Harold has been tapped to do rewrite “The Flash” script. Harold’s credits for the studio include “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” “Robin Hood,” as well as a “Twilight Zone” film. Kiersey Clemons is attached to play Iris West, and Billy Crudup will play Miller’s father.

Whether this turns out to be true, my hope is that it's at least permanent and not a temporary band-aid before something leads to another director departure. That and there's still the writing. The new King Arthur film isn't exactly setting the world on fire and that's a film that Joby Harold wrote. The question remains what his writing for The Flash would look like.

And Matthew Vaughn apparently wanting the gig as well? Both would be solid choices, though I'm curious whether WB is still looking at Vaughn for the Man of Steel sequel.

Variety reporting it and adding Vaughn into the mix

Warner Bros. is getting closer to naming a director for its adaptation of “The Flash.”

While an offer hasn’t been delivered yet, sources tell Variety that Matthew Vaughn and Robert Zemeckis are the studio’s top choices to direct the superhero tentpole.

WB declined to comment on the news.

While insiders stress others are still in the mix, sources close to the situation say Zemeckis and Vaughn have always been the leading candidates, though each has his own hurdle to overcome to land the job.

For Zemeckis, his first order of business is his untitled Universal film starring Steve Carell, which is Zemeckis plans to shoot in August and will not budge on the production date. That schedule conflict has been a factor for sometime and could be the element that causes Warner Bros. to give the gig to Vaughn, given the studio’s mandate on getting “The Flash” off the ground this year.

Vaughn, however, has his own conflicts, including a third “Kingsman” movie that he would like to film following “Kingsman: the Golden Circle,” which bows this fall. While Vaughn was high on “The Flash” after meeting with execs, he may have also been using the project as leverage to get the green light from Fox on another installment on the “Kingsman” franchise.

The movie has been on hold since losing director Rick Famuyiwa. While it waited to find his replacement, the studio decided to take the script in a different direction.

Executives have been taking their time in finding his replacement. With Ezra Miller, who will play the speedy superhero, getting ready to shoot “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2,” they decided to work on a new script in the meantime.

Joby Harold was brought on to do a page-one rewrite and has since turned in that draft.

Kiersey Clemons will play love interest Iris West, with Billy Crudup as the father of Barry Allen, aka the Flash.

TheWrap first reported WB’s interest in Zemeckis.

I really like both choices, but man- Robert Zemeckis directing The Flash would really be a dream come true.

Raimi being looked at also

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...rt-zemeckis-sam-raimi-shortlist-direct-999680

Warner Bros.’s big-screen take on The Flash has narrowed down it's search to three directors: Matthew Vaughn, Robert Zemeckis and Sam Raimi have all met in recent weeks and are each strong contenders for the gig.

The trio of directors emerge as Warners is in the final throes of its search for a filmmaker to tackle the Scarlet Speedster after losing Rick Famuyiwa, who made Sundance sensation Dope, in October 2016 over "creative differences.”

Those differences emerged even as casting was ramping up and his departure put Flash on the skids, temporarily shelving production and a release date.

Famuyiwa was the second departure after Seth Grahame-Smith, who had written the script and was slated to make his directorial debut.

The recent search for a Flash director was a closely guarded affair and each of the names rose and fell on studio's heat index even as each had challenges, schedule or otherwise, to overcome. Even Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were re-considered to possibly return to a project for which they wrote a treatment years ago.

The current frontrunner appears to be Back to the Future and Forrest Gump director Zemeckis. He is now focused on a new project, an untitled drama that will star Steve Carell and that will shoot this fall and that appeared to sideline him from the gig. But now some sources say that Warners is willing to wait for him.

on Berg and Geoff Johns are producing Flash, which is working with a new draft by Joby Harold, writer on the studio’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Vaughn, the filmmaker already deeply experienced in comic book movies with films such as X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service and counts Kick-Ass in his comic book movie repertoire, is readying his latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, for a Sept. 22 release.

Raimi spent the better part of the 2000s working on Columbia's Spider-Man trilogy, which starred Maguire as the Marvel Comics hero along with Kirsten Dunst and James Franco. The second movie, which featured Alfred Molina as villain Dr. Octopus, is considered a landmark in the comic book movie form. The trilogy grossed almost $2.7 billion dollars. The last movie Raimi directed was Oz the Great and Powerful, the 2013 Disney movie that acted as a prequel to Wizard of Oz.

Zemeckis last directed Brad Pitt in the WWII spy drama Allied.

Interesting. The pilot episode of The Flash felt very similar to the first Raimi Spider-Man film, particularly when Barry messed around with his powers.

Robert "Bob" Zemeckis.
Oh. So it'll probably be him or Vaughn. I'm just not a fan of the guy who directed Forest Gump directing The Flash.. :/ I wanted Vaughn for Spider-Man so hope he gets it if Raimi doesn't

He also directed Back to the Future, Cast Away, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Zemeckis would be perfect

He would of been perfect in 1985, in 2017 not so much. The flash needs a director who can inject energy into the film. Judging from his last couple of films which are smaller slower plotted films. I highly doubt a guy like that can bring the energy on screen to make this film pop.

I've been Team Vaughn since he was brought up for MoS 2. I feel he fits better with Flash.
