a REALLY positive review (little too Fanboy imo) :

Sounds like the guy's reading from a script. Glad he adored it but the lack of enthusiasm in his voice as he's clearly over-prasising this movie doesn't convince me he's being entirely objective. Also, did he say this film has the best story of all time?

BB makes you feel for the hero similarly, TASM makes you feel for Spider-Man something that I did not feel after watching Raimi's SM (2002).

I can agree with that. Granted, I haven't seen the film yet for myself, but based on everything that I've heard and seen, it seems like if I were to give a rough description on how to describe TASM and the first Spider-Man Film, I'd say that Raimi's one seems to have contributed in giving a "general" sense of Peter's origins, while TASM seems like it'll be going deeper than the first one did.

Plus, based on the footage alone, it feels like Webb will treat the material with bigger sense of maturity, along with a more serious attitude in areas/situations that need those dark elements that the first Raimi film didn't.

I mean, really at the end of the day, if a person were to take away the nostalgia and the fact that Spider-Man (2002) was the first film for the character to the GA, and just look at the two stories and presentations for what they are, then I think it'd be more fairer to TASM imho.

So I just watch "The Amazing Spiderman" and it was pretty good.

One of the thing I like about this is that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy is not really typical damsel in distress.

Gwen is smart, very intelligent and able to protect herself. She did a lot of useful things and most importantly, she did not ended up being kidnapped by the villian which I think is a refreshing change.

Totally. I was sure that The Lizard was gonna take her hostage at the end. I was pleasantly surprised when that didn't happen.

I really like how they explore Peter's backstory, his parents and how he ended up staying with Ben and May.

We get to learnt more about Peter, he is a smart boy academically, he is good in science, he came up with his own mathematical formula.....

The guy who plays Flash Thompson, he has more scenes than Raimi's Flash Thompson

And the guy who plays this new Flash Thompson, he did a great job of playing the jerk, bully, *****ebag that audiences will really hate and dislike him

But I don't quite get it why they decided to make Flash become good in the end, and he ended up being good buddy with Peter....

Wow, a really negative review from Billy Donnelly at AICN (a reviewer i actually have come to trust)

I kinda feared this about the film.

That review comes across unnecessarily brutal. I think he was determined not to like it going in.

Another writer on the very same site gave it a glowing review. And it's still hovering around 80% on RT (51 FRESH vs 11 ROTTEN).

woah spoilers. I know this is the spoilers forum, but please still remember to tag :csad:

This counts as positive, but...

The intoxicating charm of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will distract audiences from the muddled screenplay.

Don't worry, they're not exactly bros. I actually like that Flash isn't a generic movie high school jock. I like that after [BLACKOUT]Ben dies, Flash tries to comfort Parker. Maybe he's gone through something similar and can relate.[/BLACKOUT]

Ha ha, spoilers rule getting enforced by Mods, now I will have to keep many things I post in tags.

I agree that was a nice surprise.

I wish I could see the movie on Tuesday, but I have to wait for Wednesday. Sigh, doctor appointments!

I don't know about this......... Flash was really a bully in the begining, he even beat up Peter real badly and

suddenly he has a change of heart and decides to be nice to Peter

It just seems a bit way off and unbelievable to me.

And the ending part, I thought it was really smart and clever Gwen manage to figure out the reason why Peter decides to leave her. This just makes me like Gwen even more, she is indeed smart and intelligent.

He only beat Peter up because Peter [BLACKOUT]embarassed him by saying his real name "Eugene". Seems like the two of them may have been friends in their childhood to me.[/BLACKOUT]

Looks like they edited out some part that showed why Flash acted that way.

Maybe we will get to see that in the deleted scenes in the DVD. Studios do this all the time to keep the run time of the movie within limits they want.

Not a exactly good thing but it happens in many movies.

I don't know but the basketball scene suggests that peter and flash are not really friends

Emma Stone's Gwen did useful and important things than Kirsten Dunst's MJ in all three raimi spidey flicks.

Dunst's MJ was pretty much useless, she never did anything important or useful to help spidey. She was a whiny girl who moan ,complain about her failed showbiz career. She cares more about herself and her career than supporting and understanding her superhero boyfriend.

In contrast, Emma Stone's Gwen was the supporting and understanding girlfriend to spiderman.

I like how she rushed to the building to get the antidocte for spiderman. And how she manage to get everybody to evacuate the building before the lizard arrives.

But that was only in Spider-Man 3. I really liked her in SM1 though, and in SM2 she did try to hit Doc Ock with the big piece of wood (which she failed at, but w/e)

Yeah Mary Jane in Raimi's movies was really portrayed awfully.

I would suggest using spoiler tags to avoid getting your text blacked out by Mods.

I watched it today and liked it. Garfield was pretty convincing as Peter. The awkard relationship between him and Gwen is developed well. I didn't really love the Lizard though. Rhys did a good job but I felt let down for some reason. The action scenes were fine although there were not many. What I liked about it when compared to SM1 was the villain's motive. Goblin didn't really have any motive in SM1 whereas Lizard knows exactly what he's doing. I also felt Ben's death felt more emotional than SM1. The credit must go to Garfield and Emma who combined her gorgeousness with her acting. I do think the romance element was overplayed slightly. All in all though, a good start to the series. I would rank it ahead of SM1 and SM3 but well behind SM2.

There's deffo more to the Flash-Peter relationship, between the lines kinda stuff. What I like is that Flash isn't the one-dimensional bully he was in the other origin. It worked for that. They kept it simple. Here we have a whole character, who can be likeable, but there's conflict. His approach realistically changes at a certain point in the film.

I have a couple of problems with the film, but they're not very big and I enjoy it, but one thing I can say has been done better than anyone could've hoped for--the relationships. Even the little ones. They feel like they've got history and a lot of it's between the lines.

yes,

well, emma 's gwen successfully hit the lizard with a trophy.

Not to mention, Gwen was never captured by the lizard throughout the movie.

Also Gwen found out about Spidey's identity midway through this movie.

But Dunst's MJ only discover Spidey's identity at the end of spiderman 2.

Also, Dunst's MJ gets around and she's been with many guys, probably suggesting that she's not a decent girl after all ?

In spidey 1, she was with Flash, then harry, then with peter

In spidey 2, she was engaged to be with that astronaut, then with peter again

In spidey 3, she was with peter, than Harry? , then back to peter

In contrast, Emma's Gwen was never involved with other guys before she became Peter's girlfriend

Now that the relationship is so well developed, in case a certain someone bites the dust in the next movie, it can have such a huge impact on audiences.
