It depends on the route they go with. If this is a passion project of Pym's aimed at "changing the world" then they can introduce him as an old friend of Stark's (or of Howard if they keep him being in his sixties). However if it's something the WSC cooked up, or something that Hank brought to them, Tony most likely wouldn't get involved.

It's just a matter of wait and see now

Quick brainstorm idea I just had:

Ultron comes from a few decades into the future as a product of two old men, Tony Stark and Hank Pym. He grows sentience and travels back in time to when his creators were young men (2015) and takes over humanity while capturing both Stark and Pym to protect them and his future existence.

There's several flaws and won't happen but speculation is fun

what if Ultron has been created by Pym but in the background of the phase II movies.. ultrons creation was probably a secret joint project between shield (run by redford)/world security council and AIM to protect the planet

maybe some of the details of Jarvis' AI was stolen when tony's mansion was destroyed, and passed on to Pym (who not knowing the source) used it along with his brain mapping interface to create the ultron

i think they reference something like that in the A:EMH cartoon as well...
ultron become sentient and gather information on humans and potential threats to its existence

AIM may have supplied ultron technology to SHIELD as a army which it was planning to control.. the brain mapping technology started by Zola maybe the basis, and this might have been perfected by pym.. however, ultron becomes live and wants to destroy all humans

I don't think the AoU angle rules out an "MoE" at all. Ultron has headed at least one version of the Masters, and it's very possible that the actual plot of AoU has him gathering and/or creating a team of ubervillains to take on the Avengers.

So in an interview with IGN, Feige mentions no time travel in the MCU in the near future. So looking like Ultron is very much from the present.

Wow, Big Thor was totally right. I remember that long discussion where he was trying to convince everyone that Thanos wasn't going to be the villain in A2 and it would be Ultron. They didn't believe him.

I got to admit though, I was so sure Thanos was going to be the villain for this one. But I think it's good that they are saving him for A3.

On a side note BUT related to Age of Ultron, WHAT exactly does Ultron call his different versions of himself? I was thinking of labeling the news threads instead of PART 4, VERSION 4 or what ever he uses.

I was wrong. I thought they'd do a couple of Thanos films. Though do we really think he won't show up at all in Avengers 2? I expect another hint at least. Especially with Guardians.

I still think something in Thor TDW first

They will probably hit at Thanos or possibly give him as big of a role as GotG in Avengers 2 but I suspect he won't be a main villain until Avengers 3. I wonder what their plans are after Phase 3 is complete.

I wasn't saying it has to stray from the Surtur saga, just that Thanos has more of a chance to appear in TDW because of the tie to Loki and the Gauntlet that is in Odin's vault
