Dr Strange is gonna be a tricky one, where RDJs Iron Man seemed very plausible due to his wealthy, science whiz persona and tech aspects, Strange has to be cool as well as make us believe in the supernatural magician angle. I suppose Scarlet Witch will almost be an intro to that side of the MCU, so it wont be so STRANGE (pun intended) to us.

I never saw Strange as being a cool guy. He always seemed like a bit of a tighta##. Very proficient and all, but not a cool guy. Of course I haven't read the comics for a long time, so I don't know how he's presented these days. :)

I do think Wanda will usher in the supernatural side of Marvel & Dr. Strange will take it to the next level.

Right but if hes too unlikable it wont be very easy to be a fan of him as a hero. I dont know the character that well, so Im not sure how he'll be portrayed

I always saw Strange as being... well... strange

I wouldn't say he's a tightass necessarily, but I'd see him coming off to other characters as being a bit kooky
but I never read a lot of strange, so I could be interpreting him different than a fan would

what Im hoping is that we get another actor like RDJ who just makes us believe he IS Dr Strange

Nova wouldn't be a netflix movie.

Not saying it is, Iron Fist is though and that is also one I mentioned. I just doubt they would want to spend big bucks for the Netflix show but he knows, Marvel has the cash to throw it around if the want and most actors would jump at the chance to join the MCU especially when they know if the Netflix stuff is well received it could jump to MCU proper in the big films

Fist, Cage and Jones will all be filming this year, from my understanding.

The other thing is that I've come to like Efron. He's funny and looks for fun stuff - 17 Again is a secret love of mine. Neighbors was hella funny. I don't mind it at all. You get him now and you might be able to lock him in longer than a guy like RDJ. Granted he's around the same age as Hemsworth and Evans when they did CA1 and Thor1, but with the money being a bit more flowing now, they might look to a longer deal than the original core got.

That's the name of the film I was talking about. And ya it would make some sense for certain characters to get locked in a tad younger than some would want and sign them to a big deal. I would imagine some kind of Netflix/MCU proper movie/other TV appearance deals etc. kind of thing going on. And I'm sure Marvel would love to lock in the rising/Newer stars of Hollywood into these giant long term deals since it will be very good for continuity and their budgets in the long run.

We are probably talking about double digit year deals if that's the case, way longer than SLJ and S.Stan's 9 film deals. And that is going to be a lot of win for Marvel in the long game

The Strange I am familiar with right now through the New Avengers/Illuminate comics right now is almost a zen like master and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the mystical arts. It will be a while before MCU Strange is on that level. I imagine they will have some similarities to the Dr. Strange animation they did a few years back that told his origins. He started off in that as a very arrogant and skilled surgeon who was very analytically inclined and then lost the use of his hands and goes in a downward spiral only to end up wandering to Tibet. Then he learns of the mystical side of the universe and his true destiny.

So basically he goes from kind of a cold, calculating, arrogant individual to person with an open mind and a humble spirit

EDIT: I admittedly haven't read much early Strange stuff but a lot of the old screens I have seen had really awesome and trippy artwork and I really hope they bring that to the big screen. Almost like Dali paintings come to life

Dr Strange actually sounds sorta like Tony Stark but as a surgeon. We'll probably see some similarities there. But instead of using his own doc skills he'll learn how to use magic instead

I always found Stephen Strange to be aloof and never a smart alec or snarky the way MCU Tony Stark is.

Sophie Caldecott in this article from May 12, 2014 explains that her father, diagnosed with cancer, wishes to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier but was unable to go to the cinema because of his illness. The DVD release will probably too late. So Caldecott tries to get Marvel to send her father a copy of the movie.

Hurrah! The kind people @Marvel have generously offered to screen The Winter Solider 4 dad @ home. Speechless with gratitude! #CapForStrat

Marvel always does great things for their fans. They give out early releases to our boys in the military so they don't miss out on the summer fun while fighting for the US and they do special free screenings for police and firefighters before the releases as well. Marvel really does a lot of awesome things besides the movies

^^ The Avengers FTW!

Dr Strange: At this point I have no idea how he'll be as a film character. I hope they get a cool actor that people can just accept right away and stick with even if hes not super likable at first.

There is simply no downside to gestures like ^. Kudos to all who made it happen.

edit: I imagine Strange being a bit high strung and stressed out, given the evil **** hes aware of. And a bit eccentric as a result So maybe this guy?

i doubt the studio would see him as solo film material though

All the leading man types under 40 seem too *****ey to me though. I guess Tim "Crazy Eyes" Olyphant could work, but hes 45.

Fine for one movie but maybe too old to build a franchise around.

I wouldn't take him seriously as Dr. Strange. All I would see the whole time is that cowardly, dbag from Saving Private Ryan.

Lol its called acting. He was quite brave in Lost and had a lot more screen time. SPR was Davies' first prominent role, hes done a lot of other less cowardly stuff since then. But it aint happening anyway. Marvel will want less "weirdo" and more "smoulder".

I was just toying with the idea of a high strung eccentric type performance for Strange. Davies has pretty much been typecast as that guy. Im open to other possibilities.

Dr Strange starts off cold and imperious - very much the preeminent surgeon who holds life and death in his hands. Even when he has his accident and starts to encounter things he can't understand or control he shouldn't be frazzled or weak but rather eventually a bit humbled though even more powerful. They need a larger than life powerful actor for Strange. Someone like Javier Bardem.

Timothy Olyphant or Viggo Mortensen would be a dream for me. I can see them rocking this role but unfortunetely they might seem a little bit older. If Marvel wants another break out character they would cast him mid thirties to early fourties imo

No thanks Talisman. Any coldly rational person would be knocked for a loop for a significant period of time after dealing with all that supernatural craziness. I dont want Strange getting his bearings/confidence back until the very end of a solo movie. And even then, it would be appropriate for him to be somewhat haunted.

I have no objection to Bardem. Marvel may consider him too old though.

edit: yeah vigo wouldve been good but hes like what 50 now? (edit: 55) Olyphant might be a possibility. I know hes friends with some of those Marvel guys (Favreau, Ruffalo, RDJ). If not Strange, Id like to see him work with Marvel in some capacity.

The only real experience I have with Dr. Strange is the animated film from a few years ago, so I'm quite interested in learning more about him.

^Me too to be honest, I know f***-all about Strange

All I think of when I picture Dr. Strange is this guy:

yeah too bad viggo is 55 because he would be amazing for this role 10 years ago

dr strange will probably play iron man's role and bucky!cap will play cap's role in new avengers movies after 3 imo

Oscar Isaac is a star on the rise that would fit the Strange role like a glove but alas, Star Wars.
