The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

If there's an Avengers 4 would you want IM to be in it or to take a break with no RDJ? Not sure what I'd prefer.

I think they need to line it up so Avengers 4 is an all new cast. Definitely not a reboot, but a semi-sequel like Bond.

I figure they'll do Avengers 2 in 2015, and Avengers 3 in 2018; Feige said they'll be doing an Avengers movie once every 2 or 3 years, that it wouldn't be a long wait like some people expect. That'd put Downey at 53. Still a little long in the tooth, but young enough to pull it off.
3 years seems like the right length given the other projects Marvel will want to do in the interim years. If they very gradually add & sub out characters the Avengers franchise could go on a long time. Downey has so much energy for his age that I wouldn't put anything past him.

Btw can you remember where you saw those words from Feige? Would like to read it.

Agreed on no reboots! Don't know if I'd rather have an all new cast within the same continuity or just replace the actors one at a time. Think I'd go with the latter if I had to choose right now.

It depends on the names on the potential replacements list, lol.

I'm definitely in favor of a recast over a reboot.

I think Avengers 3 will be the swan song for Joss and this whole cast

Since RDJ doesn't do stunt anyway because Iron Man is CGI, if he keeps fit he can definitely continue to play Tony Stark well into his 50's.

If Whedon and the entire cast would stick around for two sequels, then I have no problem with it. It would've been one heck of a run and it would end on a high note.

I give you Norton (Ed) & Howard (Terrence). :yay:
Heh I actually ended up being satisfied with both of those recasts, so I guess I agree with the notion that a recast would be preferable to a reboot.

Done. Finally saw The Avengers tonight.
Great movie. Joss did a great job.
Hope it gets to a billion WW.

I don't think hypothetically talking about someone's death is appropriate. I'll leave it at that.

Personally just didn't see a problem with what Marvin said since it seemed to be more in regards to comparing the situation that happened in TDK and saying unless something similar happened, it may not reach TDK levels - which I doubt even TDKR will reach itself because part of what led to that box office was the cultural impact Heath's death had. He was, sadly, our modern day equivalent to James Dean.

But..but.. it..it's never enough! :csad::csad:

So true. Marvel have been excellent in both casting & recasting and they've managed to do it without creating too big of a commotion (outside of places like the Hype of course :woot:).

I also don't think everyone from this cast will be ripe for exit at the same time necessarily. Eg I'd love to see Evans & Hemsworth continue till they're noticeably older (if they can stay in shape). Prefer both Cap & Thor as grizzled veterans.

Yeah, I think it would be a smoother transition if they changed out the cast gradually. And I too look forward to Evans & Hems as older, more experienced incarnations of their characters. When the time eventually comes for them to replaced, we should be familiar and comfortable with the new Tony and the rest of the then-current line-up.

We survived the Norton-Ruffalo replacement. I don't know about you, but I'm very very happy with Mark Ruffalo as Banner. An improvement.

It's funny that people in this thread are talking about the end of the current Avengers when we aren't even done with the beginning. Now is the time to enjoy what we have, or at least it is for me. The end will come some day but it's not something I care to dwell on when I can savor the current triumph.

Exactly

On a related note I want them to add new Avengers gradually and eventually it might need one or two of the originals to be subbed out so maybe the change of actor would be a good time for that.

Everyone loves him dude!

EXACTLY! It's like worrying about repeating as Super Bowl Champions next season and it's the morning of this year's Super Bowl. Let's savor this experience and this movie. By all accounts, Avengers is a pure masterpiece. If this is the pinnacle, I want to enjoy every minute.

Hey, I'm talking about the opposite of an end. Avengers films to infinity (and beyond!) :woot:

Man, I'm so excited to see what happens this weekend. Can't wait to see the movie & I can't wait to see how well it does. :D

Ach! Silly BoxOffice.com forums are getting me worried, with the recent 140 MTC (major theater chain) tracking that TA may open lower, like between $140-150.

Maybe I'm reading way too many of the (few) negative reviews and whatnot. I'm just imagining this board self immolating if it doesn't meet our expectations.

Just got back from an advanced screening, incredible!!

It will do a billion, IMO.
