Action-Adventure The 'Back To The Future' Appreciation Thread - Part 2

Here's some Stolz footage. It's only a couple of shots but you can see just how serious he's taking it, especially in that last scene with Doc.

I thought there was more footage than that of Stoltz.

I was just thinking, what would actually be a bigger culture shock, a teenager from 1985 transported to 1955 or a teenager from 2015 transported to 1985?

For a middle class white kid like Marty McFly, I would go with 2015 to 1985 for sure. No Internet. No smart phones. No social media. 1955 and 1985 weren't as different as that.

For a minority though, I think going back to the pre-Civil Rights Era would be the larger culture shock.

Not released, there isn't. Stoltz shot several sequences, but only these few seconds have been put out there. Zemeckis and Gale feel that overall it would be disrespectful to Stoltz to flaunt all that footage without his consent, which makes sense. Nobody involved in the film wanted to fire Stoltz.

Losing the role was probably deeply embarassing for him, and I'm sure all the renewed passion for the series this past week stung, to know he missed out on that fame/success.

They haven't asked Stoltz about releasing the footage, AFAIK, but if they did, would he approve it? Legally I don't think they have to ask, but it makes ethical sense.

To be honest as much as part of me would like to see that Stolz footage it really isn't fair on him for it to be released. He was asked to do a job but he wasn't the right fit. No-one to blame for that, sometimes it's just not a good fit.

BTTF most likely wouldn't have been as big a success if Stoltz had remained the lead. Michael J. Fox was a major factor of why the movie was such a huge hit.

Man Back to the Future would have been so different had that been the film's basis.

I'm actually surprised something like that hasn't been released?

Yeh I have often thought of that concept as a good idea for a time travel film.

Haven't there been Quantum Leap episodes already like that?

Cannot have any BTTF projects involved without Bob and Robert.

I was flipping through that book today, gonna grab it from B&N next week on payday :D

Don't buy it in stores, its like $50... online they have it at $30 and then there is a 15% off code and I paid only $27 with tax.

Has it ever been suggested that M.J. Fox could have made a great Peter Parker?

i can definitely see it!

not that long ago, IGN posted an article about who would play the Avengers if it was made in the 1980s and Michael J Fox was actually listed to play Peter/Spider-Man

they had Arnold to play Hulk, Mel Gibson to play Bruce Banner, Dolph Lundgren to play Thor, and Patrick Swayze to play Captain America

all awesome casting choices that makes me wish this actually did happen back in the day

i am having a hard time beliving that on that day Zemeckis told him to act different.
if what i am seeing is Stolz trying to act in a scifi comedy than he is crazy. his facial expression and body movement dont fit at all

i would bet my life that if we would see the whole footage we would see that even Lloyd acted more serious.

In the Spider-Man threads all the time. And that BTTF would make a great template for the new MCU Spider-Man film's tone (obviously minus all the time travel etc).

It was an absolute joy seeing this trilogy with a sold out crowd on the big screen. :hrt:

I adore all three parts for different reasons and the films will definitely stand the test of time.
