THE BATMOBILE THREAD

I hope he drives a Toyota Corolla, because after the sheer number of times I've seen Armie Hammer and Miles Teller mentioned in the casting thread, I'm pretty sure you guys don't deserve nice things. :o

Only like two people want Miles Teller in the role!

lol how did I know that mentioning Armie's name would be like shining the Batsignal for you?

I can't wait until Armie is cast just to see you (and the maybe 2 other people that are vehemently against his casting) complain incessantly.

Armie is by far the fan favorite choice, and for good reason.

I hesitate to bring the word "realism" to the table, but I do hope for something a little more on the low-key side of things.

I hope we get something that looks like a car so we can have shots or sequences a la Taxi Driver where Batman drives around the streets of Gotham in the Batmobile that set the mood to how crappy the city is and how he patrols it.

We've never really seen that before, which is why they should do it. Would really make it feel all more personal instead of exaggerated sequences with a tank

I like the idea of a scene showing the criminal underbelly of Gotham going about its nefarious business, and then all freezing in terror as the batmobile prowls past....... slowly.

To me, realism with the Batmobile means The Tumbler... or a Tumbler-like equivalent. If you’re a vigilante who prowls the streets of a corrupt city, where violence is around every corner, you’d want something fast, armoured and extremely intimidating. That’s not a sports car with a big fin on it.

I would definitely love something sleeker and faster (while still intimidating looking).

I'm very curious what kind of aesthetic Reeves goes for.

Was never a big fan of the Tumbler or the BvS version. They were just such awkward designs. I guess too busy. I don't think they have to be super sleek, but I want to look at them and be like "That's the Batmobile."

I feel like the 21st century version of Batmen/mobiles are a victim/product of the reactionary patriotism/militarization of post-9/11 America. Seriously, go watch most big budget movies in the 00's. They are all weirdly militarized, filled with overtly military imagery. Batman too, drowned in this military aesthetic both in the movies and the arkham games.

Now that the country is recovering from that event, the big movies are reflecting back through a change in aesthetic. Things are just more colorful and sleek now. Sure, the big one is the MCU. But I see a trend of movies daring to dream in color and geometry again.

Batman too should ditch the militarization of his iconography. He honed his craft against the greatest masters of Asia. It makes little sense that he would return home only to strap up like an army dork. Batman is always at his best being a minimalist ninja.

The batmobile should reflect that. It should be a creature of stealth, not a beast of utter rampage.

Plus, we live in a post-MCU world now. A world where everything is above scrutiny. The world of clueless studio fatcats sneering at the unbridled imagination of comics is gone.

Batman shouldn't afraid to.....be.

Borrow one thing from the Tumbler: new design of angular plates, with two wheels in the front and four wheels in the back. Let the plating and suspension to change to allow the car to adapt to certain situations. He needs to go fast in a straight line, it becomes low to the ground with a long wedge-shaped design (think the ramp car from The fast and the furious franchise, but more enclosed) with the extra two wheels in the back fold it up so only four tires are touching pavement all together. This would fly like a formula 1 car, and yes, allow him to make other vehicles drive up it like a ramp and flip over. Then, when he needs something a little more tough, all 6 wheels lineup 1 after another, 3 on either side, the suspension raises, and it becomes more boxy and armored so it can ram through things, go over obstacles, and take direct fire. And finally, a middle configuration where it's fairly low, has the two wheels in the front and four in the back, is wider than its long for fast turns, decent speed and still able to take on smaller obstacles.
So basically, it can change from the ramp car to the Tumbler to a mini tank depending on the situation
