I know it was technically already done in BB and TDKR, but this shot is tons more atmospheric and creepy. I'd love to see the silent predator brought back to the character.

It's because of the lights, and lack thereof as well. ;)

I agree with you, but I maintain that you can't really make a "teh realistic" argument for the lenses, either.
I would hope most of us have past that stage of pedantry. The important points are whether they could be implemented in the film as having a sensible means of existence in spite of possible trade-offs. The batsuit wouldn't be able to retain most if its design elements otherwise.

Do you prefer the lenses or the natural eyes? I would think that you being a champion of the traditional Batsuit, you'd like the white eyes. No?

I am someone who wants to see the lenses in key moments, but doesn't want to see a white glow all the time.

This is how I feel, similar to how I feel they should've handled Bale's bat voice, when Bats is trying to intimidate people it works, but when he's talking to Gordon, Dent, or someone who knows who he is and isn't scared it seems out of place. Lenses that go transparent when not in use seem a good route to go, and honestly aren't too big a stretch anymore. If audiences can buy into memory cloth they can buy into lenses.

Not sure the sarcasm is really called for here...He does have a point. Gliding at high speeds and altitudes, being in close range of explosives and hazardous chemicals, being underwater, using night vision, etc etc. There are many practical uses for lenses besides the look.

Sorry, i was being serious! For such a small thing, getting something in your eyes, especially when going at high speeds (like swinging from rooftops) can really hurt and even cause serious damage. No sarcasm intended. Im not usually a sarcastic poster:-)

I think lenses should be used in moderation (for instance, Batman being in tactical espionage mode when he hijacks a drug deal...that would work). Then again, I'm someone who prefers the natural eye look as I think it's more intimidating than white eyes.

I hate the lenses honestly. They look great in comics, but keep them out of the movies. After seeing something similar to them in TDK, I just laughed. The eyes express so much more emotion and lenses would just takes away from it.

It's not actually the eyes themselves that show emotion, it's the eyebrows.

I'm fine with either, but it would be nice to see the lenses for once.

This. All the eyes do is show which way you're looking. The eyebrows and skin around the eyes is what shows emotion.

Tell me that isn't intimidating :word:

Great example.
I don't see how anybody can be against something like this.
It would be scary as hell to the criminals that saw him.:woot:

I don't think anybody's asking for lenses that constantly cover his eyes and block his pupils throughout the movie.
I know I'm certainly not...I'd ****ing hate that, but something that he uses only when necessary and would allow us to get something like what we're seeing in that gif above?
hell yes plz

This. This is the main reason why I'd like to see a prosthetic cowl or silicone mask, getting the area around the eyes to retain movement is a bigger factor in retaining emotion than the eyes themselves (though the eyes themselves do play a part)

The thing with lenses, I'd be ok with it for a scene or two but not the whole film. The actors face is already 90% covered, eyes con a ya lot of emotion. They aren't going to cover the eyes for the entire time.

Yeah, there's a reason why the term "muscles of facial expression" is used and not "eyes of facial expression."

Eh,If his cowl were thin enough to do that it would just make it seem like it offers no real protection for his head.
He's gotta have lead under there.:woot:

I wouldn't mind the front part being a silicone appliance. And just make it look like one cohesive cowl. I think it would be cool to see his brow move.

I wonder if it's possible to make a fabric based cowl (of course shaped to look realistic). It would certainly help with the actor's freedom.

Rubber/Plastic cowls just seem impractical and ridiculous.

It depends whether it is supposed to be a helmet thing of just a mask and cowl, I suppose.

Yeah. I think it should be an off-and-on thing.

I think he should have his normal eyes about 80 percent of the parts he's in.

But when the lights go on, $#@ goes down :word:

Simply having them used when Batman cuts the lights would seem like a pragmatic compromise.

Of course it is possible, but it would have seam lines on it.. For the smooth, seamless look? It is far easier to just have it a single casting.
I think a rubber one could work, it would just have to be engineered for mobility. For the expression to come through with movement? It would have to be glued down. Which is something that depends on the actor, but also the idea that it would have to remain on the noggin for greater lengths of time during filming. If something happened to the cowl during filming? That would be a long turn around for switching the cowls out... Production would frown upon that one. Perhaps they could try it for specific scenes and close ups?

^ I'd always like to see just the beads of light. It'd be creepy as all get out.

What if the lenses had a real purpose? For example high tech lenses that allow Batman to see better in the dark (since he always operates during that time of the day) and serve to protect his eyes from tear gas and other dangerous chemicals.

This.

And the lenses have had a real purpose in the comics since the early 90's.

They're "Starlite" lenses. They serve to conceal his eyes, shield them, and they function as night vision, infrared, etc.

And they can be made retractable. It's a concept so obvious, I don't know how no one has used it yet on film. I just we kind of saw it in THE DARK KNIGHT. Kind of.
