Am I the only person who hates the 'S' on the cape? It's perfect how it was... an S would make it messy IMO...

No you aren't. I think it's a redundant design element, especially in live action.

I don't think it's a matter of lacking imagination, but rather, trying to fit the costume in the context of the tone of the universe as a whole.

It's entirely a matter of lacking imagination... fueled by the fixation that trunks-over-tights is the only way the look can be achieved. I can understand why Superman's red trunks would have to go... being red they would have stood out like a sore thumb, but on Batman even the most traditional approach to "trunks" could be blended into the costume and made to work. It's two entirely different problems and the solution to one does not preclude a different approach to the other.

Perhaps a superfart tears open the crotch of his under-suit, and he chooses to cover the damage with the bright red speedos beloved by generations.

My god, there it is right there... no one would object to Superman wearing underwear under his suit and suppose Kal-El likes red underwear... so he tears the a$s out of his blue leotard and now what? Well he just starts wearing the underwear on the outside to hide the split et viola problem solved.~

Why hasn't Batman worn trunks in any of his big budget live action films? And I don't remember but were fans calling for Nolan to use trunks?

I don't think so, but we knew we were getting a black rubber suit. That's why some are hoping for a more traditional look, because right now, we just don't know.

^^ IMO I think that will separate from the past armored incarnations.

I don't see why they couldn't separate it without adding trunks. They could just get rid of all the ugly armor/rubber.

It can be done too. But I have a feeling that with trunks aside for giving some ancient fighter that Batman might want to make to feel to criminals. Also If you ask me they can also diferentiate from Superman's alien outfit and making him looking more from Earth.

I'd be glad if Bats has white eyes and trunks. the other way I'd be happy too. But if we have those two thing we might have the most classic batsuit onscreen ever.

I highly doubt we'll get the actual trunks and white eyes.

We may get a variation of the trunks, kinda like what we got in Arkham Origins, but I doubt we'll get the traditional look.

Arkham City has a better suit than origins. Also I'm not saying that it will be 100% classic but modern with classic aspects.

I don't see white eyes and trunks making it onto the suit and not because I think trunks look silly in live action. I think it's highly unlikely that Batman will have a 99% comic accurate suit while Superman well..doesn't. I mean why not give Superman trunks and Wonder Woman her leotard? I just don't get it.

I think lately filmmakers have been doing a pretty good job of adapting silly costumes into live action. I'm glad all of them aren't resorting to black leather and rubber but I'm also glad that they are toning down some of the siller aspects.

I mean to each their own but I'll never get wanting trunks on a live action costume. I'd honestly be baffled if the dark and badass Batman had a dorkier costume than Superman.

The superman suit was modernized but on the alien look. Batman suit is not alien thats why underwear could fit. And totally respect your take. but I don't see this in live action silly if you ask me. I see badass here.

I have a feeling we will get something very similar to the Arkham Origins suit, obviously not exactly like that but a very similar approach at least.

I'm expecting this batsuit to be significantly close to this. I mean, this suit is already VERY similar to the Bermejo Batsuit designs (particularly Noel), which is said to be a big inspiration on the Batfleck suit.

The biggest difference between the Nite Owl and Batfleck suits (in terms of execution) will be the material.
