BvS The Batsuit Thread - - - - - - Part 29

I liked the shiny gloves in BB. I thought they looked cool in those hands preparing the gadgets close ups. Yes, this is probably the most obsessively banal post I've ever made on the internet.

Theres something special about this thread. It's reached a new level of internet geek care and attention - a level approaching pure spiritual love. Holy men, monks, spiritual people, notice and honor small details - a flower petal in the air, a raindrop, a brass knuckle on a batsuit. This is nirvana level. I expect some of us have perfectly round smooth bodies just like Buddha.

oh this thread is nothing...you should have seen the bat forums during the Nolan movies...they werent for the faint of heart

The worst thing about the Nolan years were all the fans that thought they knew his mind.

"lol if you ppl think this joker will be wearing the hokey purple suit your deluding yourselfs!!" being a typical example.

People were actually saying that?

I remember that stuff. Joker will definitely only wear black in TDK, and he'll probably never laugh or smile, because this is a realistic crime movie people. Also Nolan will probably make Eric Robert's Riddler a serial killer who carves question marks into people.

Of course. Because laughing is unrealistic. It's not something a person would do in real life.

Seriously,

The good 'ol Lachy Hulme concept pic. Nolan has admitted that Bermejo was his inspiration for Ledger's look. He also had a Denzel Two-Face pic, as well.

Fellas, fellas... c'mon, this is the batsuit thread.

If you're going to dig up the past at least keep it relevant:

When and where? I could've sworn Bermejo's book was conveniently created around the same time, but not nearly early enough to influence anyone as it wasn't finished yet.

That pic above came out right after BB, wayyyyy before Heath was even cast.

Yes, I recall the interview where it originated from was years before TDK. I'm referring to the graphic novel which was eventually released, and I would assume would be the more likely candidate to have widespread recognition. At least enough to reach Nolan's eyes considering his aversion to tech in his private life.

In any case when did Nolan cite Bermejo as an influence?

I'll find it later, I'm on my phone right now.

Absolutely--and as absurd as it sounds, it seemed like a real possibility back in the days when "superhero" was still a dirty word.

Sadly, when you look at the miserable Suicide Squad designs, it becomes apparent that not much has changed since then--at least at WB. They couldn't even be bothered to give Captain Boomerang a bloody scarf.

I thought the days of studios being embarrassed by comic book roots were over, but here we are.

But at least we got an amazing Batsuit and a Superman suit.

Bermejo's take on the Joker does predate Nolan's. These interviews are where that earlier work and TDK sorta converge:

BOF Bermejo Interview Pt.2

BOF Bermejo Interview Pt.1

... though Bermejo is too a class an act to claim any direct influence. Jett, on the other hand, would have us believe that his "BOF" pic is the genesis for Nolan/Ledger's Joker (but we all know that was Tom Waits)

Here's another interview:

Redesigning The Joker

I may have to tattoo "Quoted for Truth" on my forehead.

Those SS designs are rancid.

They're a bit blend yes but not all that bad. Croc, Deadshot and Quinn (minus some of the get up) aren't too bad. The others don't really don extraordinary costumes anyways. Joker on the other hand...I am still trying to warm up to the tats and it's hard.

Thank God for Wilkinson. I wonder what he would have come up with if he could work on the Suicide Squad's suits...

it's not the designer...its the direction of the costume design...if the main thought is these guys got out of jail and just threw something on, Wilkinson's designs wouldn't be too far off from what we got.

Well I suppose if that's the look they're going for...

I just got pulverized in the SS forum for saying this. Whoops. truth though... The designs are so poor, it definitely gives you pause and a fear that we haven't come as far as we thought.

I think the more "realistic" approach here goes in line with how they envisioned this film to look, but the designs definitely could have been better and more creative and still fit that idea.

Yeah, I am sure they deliberately went for the look we got. The execution is somewhat bland though.
