Same here.
I dislike the idea of it being permanently over his mouth, but I like the idea of a mask that comes out of the cowl rather than his utility belt.

It was done in "Gotham knight" and I thought it was pretty cool.
You can see it at about 2:39 in this video

Yeah, I couldn't remember where I'd seen that mask before but Gotham Knight is it.

I like the idea of Batman being able to make his mask into a full facemask on occasion, for gasmask, rebreather, etc. But I think The Batman Nobody Knows says it best. Batman should frighten criminals...but never the innocent. He interacts with people. It'd be a lot more difficult to emote and establish trust if he had his face buried in a helmet (see AzBats).

That's a fair point. I guess I just rarely have seen him interact with the innocent not being a huge comic book reader. It being removable seems like it could be a good compromise.

A full facemask Batman is basically just Black Panther though, right?

Never even heard of that guy... But why would a black panther wear a cape?!?! Lol

There's New Frontier's line about how he said he sets out to scare criminals, not children.

Oh, and the opening of "Justice" has him leading a bunch of kids into his cave. I don't think they would've followed him if they thought he was scary.

Lol nothin sketchy about a deranged man dressed as a bat leading a bunch of children into a hidden cave...

You missed the next panel, where Batman elbow-smashes Marcus in the face.

Well, he's a superhero and he was trying to protect them from the end of the world or at least making them feel better about it.

Batman will never appear with a full face mask on film (except perhaps in a once-off suit within the context of a movie). Why? Because of recognition. The audience won't recognise a full face masked Batman because it isn't the look that's been drilled into their heads over the last few decades.

And if people don't recognise him as Batman, then how will they
sell toys.
Except maybe in Batman Beyond. But that's an entirely different batman. I want to see it bad though.

I like this shade of blue for the cowl and cape.

I just want the BTAS cowl translated into live action... it can't be impossible.

But then, I always think trying to argue the "realistic" angle for Batman is silly, because in real life Batman also wouldn't want to use a cape, and he'd probably get killed within his first few nights out.
Phoenix Jones has done some Batman-esque stuff and never died. This is probably because, in reality a hero stumbling across crime to fight doesn't happen very much. This is why I always liked the idea of Batman as an investigator more. He doesn't just happen to stumble onto crime, he seeks it out to fight it. Anyway, point is that in reality Batman could go out every night of the week and not die simply because he wouldn't actually be truly fighting crime most nights due to not finding any.

And if you want to consider the dangers of investigative crime-fighting, consider: police do sometimes die on the job but plenty survive investigating crime. Even if Batman sought out the crime to fight, in reality there's a reasonable chance that he'd be able to survive it for quite some time. A well-trained person could most likely survive AT LEAST a couple of nights of investigative vigilante work.

Batman should frighten criminals...but never the innocent. He interacts with people.
You have a very different conception of Batman than I do. Apart from his trusted allies like Gordon or the superheroes, my Batman doesn't interact with people.

My
Batman is too busy punching crime.
