My friend says that Clark Kent guy looks like superman but I don’t see it. Clark wears glasses and superman doesn’t so I don’t know what he’s on about
Average Joe in Metropolis wouldn’t put it together. They wouldn’t expect Superman to have a secret identity. Why would someone like Superman want to be a normal person?

I only care in terms of what it suggests for Lex’s backstory - LuthorCorp is typically used when the company was founded by Lionel. So it may suggest we’re getting “grew up wealthy” Lex instead of “self-made billionaire” Lex. But who knows. I prefer the latter backstory myself, but am honestly fine with either.

As a name alone, I’ve always preferred LuthorCorp because it just sounds more real to me lol. Like for some reason LexCorp has always sounded a bit silly to my ears (maybe because people more rarely name corporations after their first names? So when I hear this, I think “SteveCorp” or “KarenCorp” and it amuses me :hehe: ). But whatever, it really doesn’t matter.
To be fair, and I know “realism” has little place in a Superman movie, but any billionaire being self-made is just not something that exists in nature.

All these mother****ers were born on third base and think they hit a triple. If this were applied to Lex, it might make his resentment of Superman kind of funny, just in terms of raw hypocrisy.

Even Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey? :o

It's still reasonable to call them self-made, though, particularly when compared to those who essentially have elite jobs waiting for them. And plenty of average folks have also had help along the way. Like @Babillygunn said in another thread, it's called networking.

So I shall just rephrase - I tend to prefer Lex being the founder of his empire, built on the back of his own genius/inventions/ambition, rather than Lionel. But I'm cool with the daddy issues version as well, as long is it's not like...whatever Eisenberg was. :weeping:

The happy medium version would be that Lionel started the company, but Lex made it an empire.

Yeah, I prefer Luthor to have come from nothing but there's also something to be mined from the Daddy Issues. Particularly if the story has a lot of Daddy Stuff for Clark.

Which it will. It's a James Gunn movie.

I keep having "this movie is supposed to be a love letter to his dad" shouting in the back of my brain and I don't know how to expect him to interpret that. :funny:

What about Rosenbaum then? I recall you telling me once that Lex's daddy issues (on Smallville) accounted for a large part of what you found objectionable in his take on the character.

Rosenbaum's monotonous line deliveries were my biggest issue with that portrayal. John Glover completely overshadowing him was partly by design, but partly by him acting circles around him. Making Lex All About His Dad was like #4 or #5 down on my list of complaints. As long as you don't make that his whole personality like they did, I'm good.

I likewise strongly object to nepo baby Lex as I think Lex rising from nothing is crucial to his character, he "earned" people's admiration with his hard work, while Superman has done no such thing.

Oh well, can't win them all, at least I got the Planet's staff :D
