Why is it if we disagree with someone all of a sudden they become a piece of s***?. It just seems so over the top for something that largely doesn't matter. I get not liking someone, that's fine but calling someone a POS just seems childish to me. I have bigger things in life to get riled over than a youtube commentator lol. That's small potato's to me.
Apparently...small minds provoke the inevitable diatribe of insults over opinions not in agreement with their own. These are usually the people who sit in the back and complain rather than get in the action.

I don't know why anyone thinks Bomber would be a choice. He has absolutely no value to this project and would not be kept as a surprise.

If Jor-El is in this film, young or old, and being kept secret, you can bet it will be a significant name with some star power, ala Brando or Russell.

Gunn wouldn't be keeping Jor-El a secret otherwise.

If a certain sect of fans weren't so toxic I feel like Cavill would've been an obvious choice. Would be a perfect way to pass the torch.

Even if fans weren't toxic dweebs, they still would never do that. They want to completely disassociate themselves from the previous iteration of the character.

Bringing back stars from previous versions such as STM or past TV shows is one thing and can be a nice nod to the history of the character. Bringing back your main star from the last failed franchise is another.

Honestly, someone I'd love to see play Joe El is Viggo Mortensen.

Did he personally hurt you or a loved one? Because if not....yikes, that's harsh.

Fair assessment, but I also think the main reason they want to disassociate the DCU from the DCEU is mainly due to that toxic fanbase. Gunn has shown that he's not afraid to reuse actors from previous iterations by keeping Viola Davis and recasting Mamoa as Lobo. Cavill unfortunately just has some of the most passionate Snyder fans associated with him. Not saying they still would've gone with Cavill for Jor-El but just saying that it's an obvious choice, as with any other Superman actor still alive, but moreso Cavill since he shares a resemblance with Corenswet.

If he were about 15 years younger that'd be dope.

Realistically I'd like to see Tom Cruise, Brendan Fraser, Michael Fassbender, or Jon Hamm if the big name rumor is true. Nicholas Cage would be a fun cameo but would probably be too distracting and he looks nothing like David.

I don't think I said anything unfair and it's not a shot at him, it's the truth.

I have nothing against Bomber, but let's be objective here. He brings absolutely no name value and the general audience would have no clue who he is.

The same goes for Routh, whom I love, but most average movie goers would have no clue who he is. He's as silly of a suggestion as Bomber. I'm not sure why I am seeing his name thrown around on X either.

Its because Bomer was robbed of the part last go round.

I could get behind Fassbender. I think for as great as Cruise is, he's all kinds of wrong for the role. But it would be wild to see him in the role given his star power.

I have a feeling Gunn is going to have an outside the box choice, but someone audiences will know right away.

I know why a small size of the hardcore fandom is suggesting him, and for the most obscure bit of trivia, but that has no bearing on why a studio would choose him.

Its because they want Jor-El to look like someone who could be a farther to a 30 year old...even though he died when Superman was a baby.

If only that were true…

That storyline where Jor El survived and went on to be an a-hole who was upset with Clark for defending humanity might have been the worst thing done to Superman comics in the past 30 years (and that’s saying something in light of Bendis’ run.)

I’m glad that it has been conveniently forgotten.

You want harsh?

The only place I want to see John Hamm is behind bars. I definitely don’t want to see him anywhere near a Superman film.

If not Bomer, then maybe someone like Josh Hartnett who’s still riding the wave of a semi-comeback.

I refuse to entertain the idea of a 60+ year Jor-El. Gunn already said he ain’t doing that.

If you want a surprise which has star power it would be Tom Cruise, full stop. He still looks great for his age so it's a real option. Whether he does it or not is a different question.

Anyone else really doesn't move the needle. Bomer, Fraser, hamm... Those are just little surprises for fans more than anything and I would think Fraser is the biggest of those options.

Hartnett would be cool! I'd be down for any would-be Superman actor who didn't get to play him tbh.

Huh?

Parasociality hittin' hard today (!??)
John Hamm may be one of the most despicable people in Hollywood, and that’s saying something. Look up why he got kicked out of college. And he has shown no remorse.

Absolutely awful person.

So yeah, I stand behind my statement.

I’m also not sure how much we should be conflating “casting surprises” with “they’ve managed to smuggle in A-list cameos while none of us were any the wiser.”

If Sneider is bringing up Cruise, that strikes me less as a real possibility and more as him building a foundation for some future negative “Oh, I guess Cruise didn’t want to be a part of Gunn’s DCU” coverage.

I just… don’t quite trust the man.

Saying he has no value in the project is a pretty harsh statement, and insults his skill as an actor.

Now, if you're strictly talking about the impact of his name, then sure. Keeping him secret for the purpose of shocking the GA won't give the studio the reaction they're seeking. But as an actor, he's an excellent pick imo. And he looks more like the age I'd expect Jor-El to be VS a Viggo.

Assuming Kryptonians don't wait until they're 60 to have kids, Jor-El SHOULD look close to Superman's age. Let's not forget that Kal was a baby when he was shipped off Krypton.
