Just out of curiosity, was KC included in the list of comic panels that was revealed to serve as inspirations for this film?
Nope, but Gunn has repeatedly teased it on social media, which well, is more than we can say about Brainiac.

Yep. Here's the other thing: Kingdom Come gets a pass for me because it is amazing but stories of its ilk such as the vastly inferior What's So Funny about Truth Justice and the American Way drive me crazy because they are essentially the lamest flavour of fan fiction. They're not about anything that matters despite the aura they attempt to project, they're just writers defensively whining that they don't like edgy heroes (which is fair, although Truth and Justice's critique of The Authority is dumb as all hell - I say as someone who isn't a particularly huge Authority fan) and that the one they grew up with is better and more special and could totally beat them up if he wanted to you guys. It's coming out the gate screaming "SUPERMAN IS STILL RELEVANT YOU GUYS, DON'T YOU REMEMBER WHEN THE WORLD FELT NICER?! SUPERMAN REPRESENTS THAT!!".
Generally agree. The “show, don’t tell” adage is apropos. Telling that Supes stands for Truth, Justice and the American Way feels like preachy virtue signaling. Do it, and you’ve checked a required box; don’t do it and it’s a sin against nostalgia and traditionalism. Whereas, showing truth and justice — albeit more difficult — has actual dramatic power and resonance. (Best not to bother with the American Way part. That’s a meaningless Rorschach test. No doubt, most MAGA types would claim they represent the American Way. :word:)

Also, look, superheroes in edgy stories kill people and do morally ambiguous things because that’s the kind of story they’re in. Superman always gets a way out because he’s in a Superman story. It has all the intellectual heft and drama of pitting Batman against Rambo - one doesn’t kill people because his stories allow him to not, the other kills people because it’s part of the premise. It means literally nothing beyond what a writer or reader personally prefers to read.

IMHO, getting the emblem right is almost as important as the actual casting and characterization.

Gunn really made a stupid decision to go with a KC inspired symbol. If this is just a small preview of what the costumes will look liken under his direct supervision, then I don't see the DCU having a long life.

That's just extreme, isn't it

I don't have much to say on the S symbol, could be ok with almost anything, I just am not a fan of the black background, I like the yellow and red as I think the symbol should "pop" on screen. As for the trunks, can go with or without, though as I have said I think David can pull off wearing the trunks as there is a calm and unabashed demeanor that he possessed that he could pull them off.

Oh, Oh sorry, could type more but there is a controversy that is stopping me from writing, oh gosh, what to do. Wish I had a better theme and not just a J. The world would be clearer.

I guarantee you that the design of the Superman symbol will not make one cent of a difference in the box office success of the DCU. Of all the things the GA sadly struggles with when it comes to Superman the design of the symbol probably won't even register. I also simply fail to see how the KC design as it compares to the classic S is any different than the symbol on Batman's chest having a myriad of different designs.

Plenty of concerns to be had about the DCU, I have been almost entirely cynical about this venture but the costumes are almost guaranteed to be stellar. Gunn's CBMs have consistently had top shelf costume design.
The last time we got the classical Batsymbol on a cinematic Batman's chest was 1997 and we have had four great Batman films since then. Neither The TDKR Trilogy nor The Batman were at all harmed by the absence of the classic Batsymbol.

And the use of a modified S-shield in Snyder's DCEU films is the least of those movies' worries.

I also wonder if they are going to go for a Kingdom Come style logo for Batman's suit in the DCU/Brave And The Bold.

Battinson's is not even a Bat!

The Batfleck costume is one of those things that was a dream come true to my dumb little lizard fanboy brain at first but did not survive the novelty wearing off. Buddy just looks like a big chunky Bostonian Sasquatch.
Yeah, the core concept for his suit (essentially going closer to the comic styling than any live action suit since West) was a good one, but so many parts about its execution were just… clumsy.

The narrow, oddly-shaped mouth opening on the cowl, the minuscule ears, the way that the suit could occasionally be photographed to look dynamic, but mostly made him look chunky…

I know ZS was riffing on The Dark Knight Returns, but there was a lot lost in translation IMO.

Man, I wish they’d given Keaton the Kingdom Come suit instead of just rehashing the Burton one.

Also wish they’d given Keaton a movie that wasn’t awful.

I also think how bad the voice changer sounds is a shockingly awful choice. Genuinely the worst on screen Batvoice IMO, it bothers me way more than the Bale growl. Especially since Ben’s normal gruff Bruce voice is a great Batman voice already.

Oh really?

Bob Kane and Bill Finger in 1939 say "Hi":

All's well that ends well because Reeves and Glyn Dillon knocked it out of the park right afterwards giving us something that really captured the essence and the spirit of the comic book costume in live action in a way that had never been done. It still astounds me just how right they got the suit in The Batman.

Too many people on social media getting their hopes up. It'd be cool if Gunn gave us something but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe a logo.
