I love how his suit hides his muscularity for the most part.

Not just his muscularity but his masculinity. With his specs, messy hair and oversized fits he looks like a Williamsburg barista / arts grad who still hasn't grown up. I can't wait for his scenes with Lombard.

I’ve always hated the “framed by a clone” rumor because it sounds like the plot of a Saturday morning cartoon, or a bad spinoff comic from the 90s.

No way Gunn reintroduces the character with such a lame plot line. This Superman is still young and establishing himself, he hasn’t built up enough of a reputation for him being “framed” to have any impact anyway 😭
Gunn said this Superman is already well established.

He also said it takes place during Clark’s early years at the Planet. So this is likely another The Batman situation

Being established doesn’t mean he’s skipping all of Superman’s growth development

Do I personally have gripes with the suit? Yes, I don't like all of the lines (especially around the shoulders), would prefer a shorter cape, and all things being equal I would prefer a more traditional symbol and neckline/cape attachment.

However, this sort of manips are pure fantasy and there is no guarantee that they would turn out like you actually want in real life. In particular, as several here have pointed out, Corenswet has a longer neck and that sort of neckline just might not have looked right on him. Similarly, the fit of the suit might have been necessary to allow him natural movement in the suit rather than forcing him to look like a stuffed sausage/posed action figure like Cavill often appeared.

The truth of the matter is that real life fabrics and materials do not always completely behave like how comic book artists draw them. I don't know how many times I have seen seen manips or fanart on the Bat-Boards to change the mouth opening on movie cowls to make them look more like the comics when the truth is those sort of mouth openings just don't work in live action. Where they are placed on the sides of the cheeks is an unstable area that moves a lot when people talk and make expressions with their mouths. They would cause an inevitable amount of weird gaping and other issues.
I also think it's intentional that this suit isn't even attempting to highlight his muscles like a second skin or whatever. It seems to be more akin to some sort of alien uniform, utilitarian in its nature rather than trying to evoke a specific type of physique. It's perfectly well fitted, it's just other superhero suits with that type of muscle padding and fake abs etc have fried people's brains.

He never said it was early years at the Planet. Just that it was an earlier point on Superman's career than where Cavill was when he left off.

Wonder if this is the sequence of events:

Lex does something that makes Superman completely lose his cool, probably has to do with Luthor framing him. > Superman goes to confront Lex who's at City Hall and throws him across the room or something, hence the injuries > Ultraman and The Engineer appear to restrain Superman > Fight > Superman gets arrested, Luthor's plan succeeds.

Interesting scenario, but I doubt it will be that Supes completely loses his cool. If Clark loses his cool, people die. It's not like Batman losing his cool and people get roughed up a bit. Clark has to always be in control to some extent otherwise very bad, things you can't take back happen. That is one of the most endearing and heroic parts about Superman.

'Completely losing his cool' would be more like something seen in Injustice Superman & end up in him outright killing unless somehow restrained.

Being angry or losing composure is another thing, which the character has done at times in almost every iteration I can think of to varying degrees & for various things without going truly overboard, it's not like he's immune to being manipulated or baited into doing something, especially by a character like Lex Luthor.

That's just a fancy way of glossing over the origin for the upteenth time lol. Clark will be established, but also still very young in his craft we can assume. That Kingdom Come logo is destined to turn black one of these years I'd imagine..but that's getting ahead of ourselves.

lol y’all really gotta be willing to give a costume designer/production team a little bit of agency sometimes.

As much as we might like it to be, it’s not all about just lifting a design from the comics.
To be fair, isn't that kind of what they did with the New 52 "body armor" style design?

The rumored plot turns into the movie in its entirety lol.

I think there’s a definite New 52 foundation to it. But with the colors, trunks and emblem, they’ve taken liberties where even that design is concerned. And after as many times as we’ve seen this character portrayed on-screen, it’s only natural for them to go for a more unique combination of elements. They’ve still managed to come out looking like a fairly classic Supes.

Honestly that sounds a lot like BVS all over again.

Gunn and Snyder could be given the same script and the films would be far different. Let’s not lol

Sure! But at this point now I’m gonna be waiting for David Bizarro to show up with them Sisqó brows going bad. Damn these wonderful set pics and damn my curiosity.

I would hope so giving all directors that ever existed have their own style and eye for story and framework lol. That wasn't necessarily the point, but in all fairness, all superhero films have lots of the same beats. It's the matter of fresh ideas of a crafted story and acting.
