I gotta be honest man I don't think this theory makes any sense lmao Especially since the Superman suit already looks extremely traditional it's just clearly James take on it.
It’s alright, I’m just a crazy person who will come up with any idea to justify my dismay for all those overdesigned lines on suits these days lol.

And I actually think the suit looks great, even with my own hang up on the lines and stuff

Someone on the r/DC_Cinematic Reddit pointed out how the Lord Tech logo looks like a “J” and an “L” with an “I” in the middle, for JLI (Justice League International) and I totally see it:

Don't know how I feel about these costumes. They look silly here, but these are set photos. I like the idea of embracing the silliness of comic book costumes though. We'll see. Can't wait for the first teaser trailer.

I think with the decision of having several different super heroes in this film and choosing to embrace a Superman suit with trunks, it kind of forces Gunn's hand to make the rest of the costumes more on the sillier side.

If everyone else was too close to grounded, than it would probably cause Superman to look ridiculous.

I think the direction and how the costumes are presented with the story will be determine if the audience is turned off by the more ridiculous looking aspects of these costumes or embrace it for what it is.

My major concern is the jacket look and if it will look low budget on screen.

Do the costumes even look "ridiculous"?

They're all matching leather jackets.

I expected something a little more traditional for Gardner, the green jacket with the turtleneck and all, but it's fine. It's Hawkgirl's look that I really don't like. Looks like something Smallville would have done. Oh well.

These are obviously team suits, sponsored by Lord. Now I just wonder if this team is The Terrifics or the JLI. And then of course we’ve also got StormWatch or whoever that other group is with the Engineer. People who were wondering why we got the heroes we’re getting instead of League-ers, this is clearly why. It seems like Supes will be the only hero operating…unaffiliated at this time.

Wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing is they've been trying to get him to join but haven't succeded yet and maybe after the events of this film (they help him clear his name or whatever) he finally joins starting a proper JL.

Also wouldn't be surprised if there was a running gag in the movie about what the current name of the team is because Guy has way too much of an ego to be on a team named after someone else. When Superman joins they finally settle it's the JL.

Well, except for the Bat-Family since Bruce can bankroll them himself.

Oh man, there was a 4chan post a few weeks ago from someone who supposedly saw some toys that specifically mentioned Guy Gardner with a white jacket. It also mentioned
Luthor in a big yellow armor with the letters LL on his chest
and Krypto who looked just like the comics

I'll try to find it

Also, there's not much to support this yet but: What if some sort of proper JLI team existed even before Superman? That one could've been bankrolled by Bruce Wayne and/or Ted Kord, lead by Batman and then fell apart due to drama or due to Batman being a complete and total ******* like in the comics. Years later Maxwell Lord picks up the concept bankrolling heroes of his own lead by Terrific, maybe he bought the trademark or whatever and the current LordTech logo is a modified version of the original JL one. Tracks with the "heroes exist and have existed for a long time" idea, and Guy being so much older than everyone else.

It's got a peacemaker vibe.

No that’s what I’m saying - in this movie, it’s just Supes. Hence the absence of Batman, Wondy, Aquaman, etc. That’s why the heroes we’re actually getting were chosen. I don’t think the League exists yet, but when it does get formed, it will be to deliberately be separated from these “sponsored” teams, with other heroes who were previously doing their own thing.

I don't buy the idea that they'll stop being sponsored by Lord. I think James enjoys the JLI too much to ditch it that quickly. I just think they'll become more individualized and I can see it transitioning by being called the Justice League, but they'll still be bankrolled by Maxwell like in those comics. There's no reason for them to stop taking his money either since James isn't going for the villain take on Max.

I don’t expect THIS group to stop being sponsored by him, no. But this ain’t the Justice League. That will be a different group, bankrolled by a different billionaire.

I don't expect we'll see an hyper traditional JL in this universe ever either. Just not Gunn's style. Gunn's style is the JLI, which he's teased a lot as well and which is already being set up here. I'm sticking to the "By the end Superman joins the team and it's renamed the Justice League, which will Gunn's take on the JLI" theory.

I could not disagree more. But we’ll see in time!

There’s no JL without the Trinity, period imo. The JLI are a separate group for a reason. And I do believe they’re getting their own movie.

Would've liked to see more classic costumes for these characters, but it's clear enough that they're a sponsored team of some sort. We'll see how it shakes out from a narrative standpoint.

Also a tad the boys(ish) if they're sponsored. Not saying that's a bad thing. It's just a feeling I'm getting.

What makes me very very convinced in my theory is the fact that these people seem to be Superman's friends. Terrific was even trying to get Krypto, and Gunn has referred to them over and over again as his "metahuman compatriots" and made a point of saying that while Clark has deal with the Planet people, Superman has these other heroes, so they're essentially functioning as his superhero co-workers. So if he's already friends with them, and if they're presumably gonna help him during this movie, I don't really see any reason why he'd ditch them aside instead of just joining in with them with a name change or philosophy change something.
