The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

What makes me very very convinced in my theory is the fact that these people seem to be Superman's friends. Terrific was even trying to get Krypto, and Gunn has referred to them over and over again as his "metahuman compatriots" and made a point of saying that while Clark has deal with the Planet people, Superman has these other heroes, so they're essentially functioning as his superhero co-workers. So if he's already friends with them, and if they're presumably gonna help him during this movie, I don't really see any reason why he'd ditch them aside instead of just joining in with them with a name change or philosophy change something.
Those he’s friends with join the Justice League eventually. Easy. Supes ain’t becoming a corporate stooge. That’s a non-starter.

It would appear that corporations already established in the DCU are monetizing/bankrolling heroes

And then here comes ol big blue who is bigger and better than them all, and he’s as mom and pop as it gets. I like it.
I approve of this! If it is the case, I wonder if Metamorpho is a Stagg-sponsored hero.

I preface this by saying I know jack about JLI, but since they are being financially backed by a villain, is it possible Supes' influence inspires them to break away from him and do their own thing?
Maxwell Lord is not a villain in the original JLI comics, which are some of Gunn's favorite comics and the explicit inspiration for this Max. He's a good guy that's kinda sleazy in the ways a businessman would be sleazy, but he genuinely believes in the mission of the heroes involved and actively helps them.

Hence why they'd probably ditch the sponsored costumes, but I don't see any good reason why they'd stop taking Max's money since Max is not a bad guy.

I have a feeling these heroes operate separately, maybe even charge a fee to big govts for helping with big time crimes/supervillains, or disasters.

Superman of course does not charge. He's worked with them before, and tho on friendly terms, does not agree with their methods.

If the corporate sponsorship thing shakes out, it’s interesting that Michael Holt would need a sponsor, given that Terrifictech is a thing.

But maybe it’s a corporate merger or a subsidiary or something

I don't expect we'll see an hyper traditional JL in this universe ever either. Just not Gunn's style. Gunn's style is the JLI, which he's teased a lot as well and which is already being set up here. I'm sticking to the "By the end Superman joins the team and it's renamed the Justice League, which will Gunn's take on the JLI" theory.
There is an almost 0% chance we don't see a proper JL in this universe at some point. (if it is successful) You are fooling yourself. Gunn won't make it but he won't block it either.

I agree the suits all look like they've been made for the same team. But that extends to Superman for me. Whether that's the intent or not, that's what happens when you put lines freaking everywhere.

Would've liked to see more classic costumes for these characters, but it's clear enough that they're a sponsored team of some sort. We'll see how it shakes out from a narrative standpoint.
I think people aren't getting that the costumes are supposed to look the way they do for a reason. There is a reason why the kids flock to Superman and not the other heroes. Those heroes are kind of a joke.

I think it'll be an unholy combination of the JLI and the classic JL, but I think there's zero chance he ever get rids of those JLI elements. And having two Justice Leagues would be very stupid.

He is also part robot at one point...

The JLI comics are fun as heck! If I ever get to see "One Punch!" on screen I might lose it!

I think the JLI is sticking around. I just think the A-Listers will form as well. Hopefully not a for a while though we definitely need "Wolds Finest" first.

Superman embracing the kids in the crowd and just being friendly is so lovely to see. Wholesome moments between these superheroes and random civilians seem so few and far between in all these adaptions these days. Which is a shame when they're the backbone of the genre.

I think it's as simple as the A-listers will be part of the JLI as well. Like I said, I expect both concepts will be combined into what'll be the DCU's Justice League.

Completely disagree, if I had to put money on any future project Gunn is most likely to direct it is JL. It'll be the linchpin movie if the universe that Gunn is - for lack of a better term - the showrunner for. Some variation of a Justice League film is what his story will be ultimately building to so I suspect he'll want to be the one to execute it.

I'm in the same boat and am theorizing the same thing.

The Justice League being independent will most likely be apart of the story. Gunn has made it clear how he feels about corporations and government squads. So they can start funded, but it won't last.

If this thing actually gets to the point of Batman being involved, he'll be the only potential sponsor they have. Because Bruce himself would be very big on the independence of the group.
