Unlikely, but I'd love to see a fully battle-ravaged Superman in the final fight. I don't know if there's been a fully battle-ravaged movie superhero, with the bloody bits, torn costume, exposed shoulder and all, since Raimi's Spider-Man. You lose cool points when the hero gets through the fight perfectly coifed and just a little dirty.

We are on the same wave length with that thought! I think I made a similar comments years back when they announced Tom Welling for Crisis on Infinite Earths. Shoulds known better than to think he would wear the suit lol!

So this is the Justice League International before the Justice League I take it. It's as if these other heroes existed before Superman, as this version of Superman is presumably in his second or third year in his career? I try not to be bothered by the fact. I wonder how he'll look next to these other heroes. It's pivotal to me that Superman has a large role.

While I wasn't a big fan of BvS, I liked the idea of Bruce Wayne being a bit older than Clark. I never felt like they had to be the same age, but I was only bothered by the fact that Batman had been active for two whole decades before Superman's arrival. SO they made Superman the second hero. I talk to some people, and many people think Batman was the 'first' superhero because of this--if you consider Batman a 'superhero'. Some people will make excuses for BvS and say that Batman is not a 'superhero' but a vigilante. Whatever. Though Wonder Woman existed before both of them did...and the JSA as well in the DCEU.

In the new DCU, we have the JLI--and they have existed for who knows how long? Kind of awkward when Superman was supposed to be the first. He's the ultimate superhero, but he is still the first. He should have a significant role. In ZSJL, unlike the theatrical version, Cyborg had most of the central focus in the movie. To me, it's pivotal that Superman is the first alien and superhero on Earth and makes a huge impact on the world above all heroes, Batman included--or Superman should at least be the first one to expose his powers to the public...and inspire other heroes. If not, then I hope Batman--if he already had been fighting crime before this Superman--can at least come out of the shadows if you will. And Wonder Woman...well, she leave Themyscira and you know. The JSA would have already had to have existed. I think it would be better if the JSA were from another Earth though. The JSA could have already existed before Superman, but Superman should at least be the first alien immigrant. I think introducing Superman to a world that has already been exposed to aliens and metahumans will be potentially a drop back.

I kind of felt this way about Justice League War. I didn't like the way Superman was portrayed. When they introduced Superman in the middle of the movie with Batman and Hal Jordan's Green Lantern, Superman just looked kind of redundant next to GL...and Shazam. Another 'super' hero, and his name is just 'Superman'. Just a middle character. But he was the first. Too many of them could fly, and they were all over-powered.

Smallville introduced Supergirl to the world before Clark even became Superman. They showed the 'S' already and introduced almost every other hero they could before Superman made his debut. Clark being the first superhero didn't seem to matter, because he wasn't. What was the point in the finale?

Whatever. Just feel like these points should be noted. Hope Gunn knows what he's doing.

I don't see any reason why Superman needs to be the first hero ever. In fact, I think it makes the universe worse. One of the best things the DCU has in its corner is this rich history of lineages and teams dating back in-universe decades and if this universe doesn't fall apart immediately then I think it'd be a massive waste to not take advantage of that.

James said from the beginning this is a world where heroes exist and have existed for a long time. Superman being the first one was out of the window from Day 1.

With the exception of Mister Terric, both Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner look barely recognizable IMHO. The quality of the design is something that I would've expected from Smallville or the CW Arrowverse, not a multi-million dollar blockbuster.

First of all they are totally recognizable. Second could you at least come up with a less lazy criticism?

Superman isn't the first in-universe superhero in like 95% of media now anyways. Retcons galore have placed a vast and interesting history before Superman, as it should. Superman coming into an established world can be used in a lot of ways.

I applaud Gunn for realizing that he can’t sell this as a solo Superman flick. He needs to bring dozens of heroes/characters in to make Superman interesting. Hell, If Reeves wasn’t in his way at the moment, we’d see Batman in here as well.

Are you unaware of the histories of the Flashes, Green Lanterns, Shazams, Doctor Fates, Hawkman, and numerous other heroes who pre-date Clark when it comes to being superheroes?

Superman being the first isnt going to make him or the movie any better. They're already setting it up as him being the only hero in this film that operates individually and not part of some corporation. That's a big message.

I wish Guy had more green on his suit but I doubt there is a single person who knows who Guy is who wouldn’t recognize him lol
I agree with the comment made earlier that likely there will be some green cgi as the suit is a construct of the ring. Kind of like:

Probably would look a little more Green Lantern-y if they inverted the green and white on the jacket/pants, but I don't mind it. Curious to see how Gunn portrays the constructs and if they'll make the suit pop. Especially considering Marvel turned Kamala into a Lantern.

That's not the point of my argument, and yes, I am aware, but that is comic book canon.

Only in a retconned history. Superman was the first...

I admit though the history is cleaner if the JSA existed prior to Superman's arrival.

Well this is one of the reasons why I think Justice League War was not a good movie.

If you're aware, then you'd understand why it would be a bad idea for Clark to be the first and only. You ruin a lot of rich story and history for characters and the world at large that way. DC hasn't made it that way by accident.

Honestly my only complaint about Guy is that they didn't go goofier. I wanted the hideous green vest with the ridiculous collar and turtleneck. :funny:

No. I never said he should be the 'ONLY' superhero, just the 'first'.
