Hugo Strange is the oldest Batman villain. He appeared way before The Joker and Catwoman. People need to show him more respect. He's criminally underrated.

IMO, His best stories are "Strange Apparitions" and "Batman and The Monster Men."

Are you kidding? 'Way before?' Like 8-12 months before them? He was a typical generic mad scientist that was being copy/pasted in every comic book at the time.

Honestly it wouldn't bother me if Strange was the villain. I've not read alot of his material, but I have that much faith in Nolan. Strange seems sinister and insane, so I think he'd be a good fit.

His first appearance in the Batman comics means absolutely nothing as to whether or not he's a good villian...except that it is telling that he isn't in the comics that often for some reason.

I've read Batman and the Monster Men. Have you ever read Batman: Hush?
Yes. It was an underwhelming story about an underwhelming villain, especially for all the hype that it got. It did have its moments, sure, but I think it was mostly popular because, like No Man's Land and The Long Halloween, all of Batman's major villains played a part in it. However, I thought NML and TLH had much better stories than Hush.

Michah, it seems we are outnumbered in our hatred for Hugo Strange.

I'll let it rest for now.

We are the opinions that SHH deserves, just doesn't need right now. :oldrazz:

Nolan picks villains according to who fits the story best, so if Strange is in the film as one of the major villains, then that obviously means he's the best fit for Nolan's story and I support the decision to include him completely. It's how he's handled that'll make or break his inclusion, but given Nolan's track record I seriously doubt he'd misuse Strange, or Catwoman, or Talia, or whomever.

Don't get so worked up, it's just a rumor at this point anyways :)

If you guys rather have Deacon Blackfire than Strange ..... Smart move not trying to top Joker . And if this rumor is true I fully expect Catwoman in it , which is the one character I wanted to see . So Im good .I heard for months that Prey maybe the r\the direction this film goes and its looking like that maybe the case

Wow, i just read the outline for Prey. That actually makes sense for where I think this story shoud go.

Now I'm off to read it and eat my foot.

Yeah, the outline for Prey sounds like it could work for TDKR, seeing how Batman is on the run and all. I wouldn't mind if they replaced Sgt. Cort with maybe Essen. Like I said earlier in a different post Gordon doesn't have to have an affair with Essen. The events that transpired in TDK was enough to break up the Gordon family. I think it would be interesting watching Gordon develop a love interest with someone that is hellbent on hunting Batman down.

In an earlier post someone mentioned catwoman and called her a mainstream villain...well I've never really considered catwoman to be a villain, she's more of an anti hero. She would be good for marketing though, that much is for sure. That being said a combo of Catwoman and Strange would probably work. I've been pulling for Black Mask like crazy, but I certainly won't begrudge Nolan if he's not in it.

So, I just read Prey.

Meh. Definitely has positive aspects, though.

Love Hugo Strange. He can be a real mind **** for Bruce/Batman. I say bring it on.

What does have to do with anything? Does his vest make him overly prude? A Brit shouldn't be so prude.

The only way I will be happy with Catwoman is if she physically looks like Ed Brubakers/Greg Rucka's Catwoman from 2003->

The only thing about PREY, TERROR, MONSTER MEN, etc...

They're good, insightful stories, but they're not at all really "defining" comics for Batman. STRANGE APPARITIONS might be, to a point, at least the story arc it was surrounded by was, and Nolan and Goyer seem to really like that era. But Nolan and his writers have tended to gravitate toward stuff like YEAR ONE, ZERO HOUR, THE LONG HALLOWEEN, THE MAN WHO FALLS, and THE KILLING JOKE when adapting these films and developing themes. This would be a curveball of sorts.

It doesn't seem impossible in the least though. Strange has the potential to be a fantastic and compelling villain.

I would love to see Strange realized well on film.
