If Julie Madison is the love interest, perhaps she's some socialite he meets in order to maintain his Bruce Wayne persona, since with Batman on the run he perhaps spends a lot of time as Bruce- perhaps more than he's used to- and he ends up developing feelings for her or the other way around.

I look at the list and I see three characters: Sarah Essen, Julie Madison, and Lois Lane. I just don't see any of them as Selina Kyle.

Sorry for sitting over here with this look of befuddlement on my face but you must understand...

I am from a planet where there is ALSO an actress named Natalie Portman. However, the one I'm thinking of is a one-note, over-exposed plain Jane who was INSTRUMENTAL in destroying a certain sci-fi film franchise that used to be inextricably bound to my childhood. Thanks in part to her, my childhood is now dead.

I know the Natalie Portman considered for a role in DKR couldn't possibly be the same person.

Yeah, it seems you're thinking of a different Natalie Portman. You're thinking of the Natalie Portman that gave a bland performance in a terribly written role in a trilogy that also managed to get bland performances out of such great actors as Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Samuel L Jackson.

We're thinking of the Natalie Portman that is one of the finest actresses of her generation. The Natalie Portman who gave great performances in Leon, Heat, Garden State, Closer and V For Vendetta. The Natalie Portman who is currently getting rave reviews for giving the best performance of the year - by a performer of either gender - in Black Swan.

None of them fill me with enthusiasm, but I would take Portman and Hathaway, two very good and underrated talents. And is it just me or is anyone a bit surprised about the idea that there may be two female lead roles?

I don't see using both Talia and Catwoman. One of them will be the female villian.poison Ivy
would be too fantastic for the realistic batman world Nolan has created.

Both Naomia watts and rachel weisz are older than Chrisitan bale. That could work against
them.Hollywood often doesn't think men could be drawn to women there age or a little bit
older.Keira Knightley has shown a relcuentce to be In non peroid films and also be in Big
films since Potc. She turned down Captain America.

If Talia Is In the film I would love to see Natalie Portman as her.it would be Intresting role for her.

I like it. Nolan has been all about exploring new territory in his Batman series. With Batman Begins, he explored Batman's origin and how he came to be in more depth than had ever been seen on film before, or arguably even in the comics. With The Dark Knight he embarked on a narrative far more ambitious than your typical superhero film. For the third film, it could be that - amidst a genre usually cited as being male-dominated - Nolan is offering up some meaty parts for a couple of high-quality actresses to chew on.

Wait, I just said, "Nolan is offering up some meaty parts for a couple of high-quality actresses to chew on." That doesn't sound good at all.

I'm just glad nolan dosent want a sausage fest like a lot of fanboys do.

She turned down Captain America.

I think B3 might be more of a safer bet though than Captain America. It's one of the hottest properties in Hollywood right now, not to mention consisting of great talent in the writing department, director's chair and acting department. No disrespect intended towards CA I mean, I'm stoked for it.

Would be a fascinating role for her alright.

All true, I just hope it meshes well with the story and that they have clearly defined roles. I mean I want the villain to be the villain, I wouldn't want to see Bruce having his head turned by two women so soon after Rachel's death.

They should have one of the girl villains kill Scarecrow

Hmm. I'm still wondering which Villain has the potential to redeem Batman in the eyes of Gotham's Citizens. Who could terrify them in a such a way that they'd turn to Batman for help? Let's not forget that in TDK, The Joker's threat in TDK had such an effect on the citizens that it caused almost the entire city to evecuate.

Thoughts?

I don't think this necessarily has to be the case. Yes, the green-skinned Poison Ivy of the comics who can mentally control plants and the like is too far-fetched. But a Poison Ivy somewhat like her incarnation on Batman: The Animated Series - no superpowers, just an eco-terrorist who uses plant-based chemicals as poisons and hallucigens - is certainly managable within the Nolanverse.

I was thinking of ways Ivy could fit into the story. Perhaps in the wake of the events of Batman Begins, Ivy has emerged as a kind of "Queen of the Narrows", acquiring a legion of followers amongst the insane and disenfranchised that populate the sealed-off area. With the government, the police and Gotham City Council abandoning the Narrows, she says it has been reclaimed by nature or whatever. Find some way to fit her into the story from there.

You know we all think girls are gross unless they're only present to sexually gratify us. Duh.

Begins already dealt with a botanical toxin. Poison Ivy has absolutely nothing to offer Nolan's series as a villain. Any character development she brings for Bruce or Batman can easily be handled with another female lead.

There's a rumor out there that, if Catwoman is in the film, she won't be handled the way that most people are expecting in terms of her role in the film and in Nolan's overall mythos and story. I won't say anything more specific, but if the rumor's true, I'm going to be very interested to see people's reactions to it.

You should just spill the beans. :o

Yeah, if it's only a rumor there's no harm in sharing it with us. I suspect you've already deducted that we're hungry dogs.

It's hard to top The Joker on a threat scale, without doing Ra's again. I don't see outlandish plots like Mr Freeze icing the city, or Poison Ivy having giant plant monsters overrun Gotham etc. Just have the crime rate escalate even more in the wake of the Joker, and the absence of Dent.

Well, I remember someone came up to Nolan during a Q&A for Inception at WonderCon either earlier this year or last year and asked him why his films didn't have stronger roles for women (a comment I wholeheartedly disagreed with... Nolan's films have always had strong roles for women, from Carrie Ann-Moss's role in Memento to Hilary Swank's role in Insomnia and so on and so forth). Nolan mentioned that Marion Cotillard's role in Inception would definitely be complex and interesting.

I have a feeling that Nolan might take that a step further in The Dark Knight Rises by adding more diversity to the line-up - arguably some of the greatest characters in the past two Batman films have been male characters. A lot of people complained that Rachel Dawes didn't really add anything new or make any profound impact (besides on Bruce's characterization) but I digress. If the rumor is true and we have two female leads, perhaps it just means Nolan is trying to diversify his cast and create an interesting spread of complex, intriguing characters. By making the mayor of Gotham someone who was of Hispanic ethnicity, to the Ramirez character, to creating roles that were all races (from Gambol to The Chechen) it's obvious Nolan likes a diversified cast of characters which I think is always fascinating.

And should this villain have somewhat of a personal issue with Bats like R'as and Joker do?

Make no mistake there will be a threat to the city of Gotham. Its a fundamental part of the mythos of Batman as Gotham's guardian.

That is definitely one of those memorable moments I'll always keep, seeing that on Imax a number of times. Two of his movies have had those moments that are great to be in a packed theatre. The opening Imax shot of the city in TDK and the very last scene of Inception.

As much as I love IMAX, I'd prefer it if TDKR was shot mostly with anamorphic film with IMAX-specific scenes (a la Dark Knight), or maybe 50% of the film shot with IMAX at the most. I've never been lucky enough to have an IMAX theater near me when TDK came out, and I think an entire IMAX-shot Batman movie would be overwhelming.

And plus, the DVD and Blu-ray releases would present it in a 1.78:1 format. It's just going to look strange when the third film is shot in flat compared to the first two shot in scope.

It's more than just a rumor. I've heard the exact same thing and one of my sources has leaked an early costume design that Nolan's team is working on at the moment. :wow:
