The Flash The Flash General Discussion and Speculation Thread - - Part 11

I can see Flash extending because it's CW's highest-rated show.

Grant should do it as long as they are willing to give him that good $$$. Easy money, 50/50 chance he could go on to something this successful again...

Yeah take the money. look, it's got to be better to be popular than on the Netflix/Lifetime/Hallmark movie circuit. or worse get stuck on reality TV.

They're going to run out of villains though, right? I mean, they kinda' have already, and they can't just go and reset their little universe again, surely not. Season 7 (or 8) needs to be a refocus on Thawne though. That character needs to be cleared up, and cleared out.

I suppose we've still got the likes of Red Death, Colbolt Blue and Baroness Blitzkrieg to play with down the line. I'd love for them to revisit the Rival, Zoom and Savitar at some point too, but I think two of those characters were ruined and there's not much left for them to do with Zoom. Hopefully they'll get something right with Godspeed at some point too.

If they can't come up with villains then.....yikes. the character has been around for what? 40 years?

The challenge for live-action TV, I think, is that the show needs a villain whose goals are at least somewhat relatable and who has enough charisma or connection with the audience to maintain the audience's interest. Cicada v.1 fell flat despite a motivating trauma for which the audience could feel sympathy. Thawne has charisma but hasn't been given much of a goal in recent years other than "be a villain".

I'd like to see the Savitar arc done over. In the history of this post-Crisis Earth, let's say that Savitar hasn't happened yet. At some point in the future, Barry — the original, not a quantum duplicate — falls back into old habits and travels back in time to the present to fix a mistake that his present-day self is about to make. Barry being Barry, the fix doesn't actually work as intended, so he then has to fix that, and so on. Much of the action in present-day should be shown from future-Barry's point of view. All the while, present-day Team Flash knows only that there's another speedster in town working against them. Future-Barry wouldn't call himself Savitar; that would be present-day Cisco's name for the mystery speedster.

Future-Barry might prefer not to wear the iconic red costume. He may opt for a stealthy black outfit instead, but I'd be happy as long as it's not Savitar's exaggerated Shrike suit.

That's why it's up to the writers to give the villains a proper motivation

The perfect examples for this are Godspeed and Negative Flash (Meena). But the writers totally struck out on Godspeed, who should’ve been a season long big bad with a fleshed out backstory.

I’m wondering if there’s any way we might get a proper Wally West (Wally I) as opposed to the Wallace West/Kid Flash that we got.

This wouldn't be the first time we've been told that an episode, or arc is going to take our breath away or be spectacular, so I'll wait and see for myself before believing any article or interview.

I'd quite simply rather there not be an evil version of Barry. Have Savitar as the speedster he is/was meant to be. I don't mind a little creative licensing, but not that.

I do wonder though at this point, regarding the speed force. Up until now, there have been consequences when tinkering with time; time wraith, the black racer etc, all of which were speedforce forces. With the speedforce gone, what does this mean for speedsters that mess with the timeline? Who's keeping an eye on Barry, Wally, Jay and Thawne now?

Godspeed needs a motive, and I don't think the writers have quite figured out what that can be yet.

I doubt that now. Crisis would've been the perfect opportunity to recast Kid Flash, or even introduce another version of that character that became part of Earth-Prime.

Personally, I feel like Black Hole has been a bust for the most part. With the exception of Ragdoll, everyone else in that group comes off as villains from the Power Rangers show (in the 90's).

They were fine until the focus became solely on Eva

Eva is such a disappointment.
Finally Mirror Master is being done as the big bad, a classic non-speedster villain that can stand toe to toe with the flash and as various ways to use their ability and stay fresh throughout the season.
The slow reveal was pretty well done, and Eva's Mirror clone thing is a great way to keep the drama fresh and comic-booky, but damn, Eva is a bore.
Just a scatter brained basic chick. No cool costume, No smug aura, not overly unhinged, not threatening, not funny, nothing. I suppose she's supposed to simply be "sympathetic", but that's really not enough. I feel she should be the most memorable part of the season, but she's still competing for the "big bad" title against Bloodwork and her Husband.

Why does Eva keep scratching herself? What's wrong with her skin? I agree she is boring.

I hate this season with a passion and I really think that the Flash has lost its stride.

Season 1 brilliant with The Reverse Flash
Season 2 edgy with Zoom
Season 3 with Savitar started off great until the reveal.
Season 4 the thinker was wasted opportunity
Season 5 cicada useless
Season 6 abysmal

Yeah, I somewhat agree.

I still don't get on how they could have fumbled with the portrayal of "Black Hole" seeing as how there's plenty of good material from the comics to adapt into live action. Not to mention the fact that Gorilla Grodd was the original leader of the organization in the comics as well and he had quite a few villains at his disposal that didn't come off as cheap knockoffs from a Power Rangers series.

Gotta love the thought process behind the show: “we have a hero whose entire premise is based upon him having super speed and an upbeat happy attitude.” “Hey let’s take away his speed while making him fight with his friends all the time.”
Great ideas.
